Decided to Forgive You After Getting Drunk - Chapter 6
The crowd turned their eyes toward Song Xian.
Song Xian already had an initial plan in mind. She laid out her ideas, the possible difficulties the team might face, and the solutions one by one. Everyone nodded in agreement, feeling the plan was feasible. Finally, their gaze shifted to Xiao Yutong.
Xiao Yutong lowered her eyes, thinking for a long time. Song Xian’s ideas coincided with her own. In this multimedia era, many small teams or individuals operate their accounts on short video platforms, with all sorts of creative advertisements emerging. Some of these ideas were indeed very good.
“Integrate advertisements into the story,” she tapped the table lightly twice with her pen, “this is a good idea. This project will be handed over to Team 3. Song Xian, quickly draft a plan. If you need anything, just talk to Zhou Yao. Meeting adjourned.”
After Xiao Yutong left, the meeting room immediately exploded with excitement. Members of Team 3 crowded around Song Xian.
“My little Song Xian! You’re simply amazing!” Zhang Xin was the first to jump at her, even sneaking a pinch on her cheek.
No wonder Zhang Xin was so happy. Previously, big projects were always snatched by Teams 1 and 2, and Team 3 only got small jobs. Finally, this time, they had their chance to shine. Everyone was praising Song Xian nonstop.
She was indeed outstanding and thick-skinned, but even she couldn’t handle such excessive, nonsensical praise.
“Hey hey hey, everyone calm down first. The director only told me to prepare a plan; we don’t even know if it will be approved,” Song Xian said.
“Enough! Stop teasing little Song and go prepare for work,” Team Leader Zhou Yao finally spoke up, and everyone left the meeting room. After they left, Zhou Yao said to Song Xian, “Little Song, you did well this time. If you need anything, come to me. Team 3 will fully support you.”
Song Xian replied, “Thanks, Sister Zhou Yao.”
Team 3 immediately got busy. Time always flew when working hard, and soon it was lunch time. Because everyone was highly motivated, they all agreed to come back and continue working after lunch.
Song Xian had planned to eat with Zhang Xin and the others, but just as she was about to leave, Xiao Yutong unexpectedly called her into the director’s office.
She didn’t know what Xiao Yutong wanted, but didn’t want Zhang Xin and the others to wait, so she told them to go first.
This was only her second day at the company, yet she had already been called into the director’s office several times. Although she didn’t resist, it did feel a bit frequent, making her wonder if Xiao Yutong had some interest in her.
“Here.” Xiao Yutong pushed one of two lunch boxes in front of Song Xian.
Before Song Xian could say anything, Xiao Yutong hurriedly explained, “Don’t misunderstand. I just don’t like owing people favors.”
She really didn’t like owing anyone, even a meal had to be repaid.
Looking at the exquisite lunch box, Song Xian asked, “Isn’t ordering takeout forbidden?”
Xiao Yutong replied, “This isn’t takeout.”
Not takeout? Could it be that Xiao Yutong cooked it herself? Oh my, she thought Xiao Yutong was the type who never touched a kitchen utensil an aloof beauty, high and mighty, not living in the mortal world.
Her mind couldn’t help but imagine Xiao Yutong wearing an apron, standing in the kitchen, surely still sexy, cold, and elegant. She wondered what Xiao Yutong was like at home.
“What are you thinking about?” Xiao Yutong saw her lost in thought.
Based on Xiao Yutong’s previous actions, she suspected Song Xian might be imagining some indescribable scenes about her.
“Nothing!” Song Xian shook her head and mischievously said, “Director Xiao, you look really beautiful today!”
Xiao Yutong was wearing her hair down, a misty blue blazer, and a black skirt, with a small black belt around her waist. She looked truly alluring not only in her outfit but in her natural charisma that made people unable to look away.
“Do you like wearing skirts?” Song Xian asked.
Xiao Yutong opened her lunch box and replied, “So-so.”
Song Xian then asked, “Do you like me wearing skirts?”
Xiao Yutong looked up and gave her a cold glance, “Do I look like I have nothing to do, or are you just very free?”
“Get out,” Xiao Yutong said.
Song Xian was speechless. Could she not chat a bit? It was after work and Xiao Yutong was still acting all director-like. Xiao Yutong wanted her out, but she wouldn’t leave.
“Director Xiao, look, our lunch boxes are exactly the same. If other colleagues see this, they might misunderstand our relationship,” seeing Xiao Yutong silent, she took the initiative, “How about I just eat here?”
She hugged the lunch box and ran to the small sofa by the window beside the desk, “I won’t disturb you.”
Xiao Yutong thought about it carefully and agreed. After all, it was just this once, and it was better for Song Xian to eat there than coming up with other excuses to get close to her. These kinds of scenes were common in TV dramas.
A girl like Song Xian was smart and scheming but probably only interested for three minutes. A few days without attention and she’d turn her focus elsewhere.
Like yesterday, one moment she was acting affectionate in the office, the next she was getting into another woman’s car. Xiao Yutong couldn’t play games like that with emotions.
She didn’t dislike such people or look down on them. Everyone had their way of life. As long as it didn’t affect others, just be yourself and be happy.
Song Xian didn’t know Xiao Yutong’s thoughts and ate happily, surprised at Xiao Yutong’s cooking skills. She thought it was just ordinary home cooking but was still immersed in the delicious food while watching Xiao Yutong’s side profile, admiring her beauty.
As the saying goes, to capture someone’s heart, you must first capture their stomach. What to do? Xiao Yutong had both.
Both finished eating around the same time. Song Xian had just packed up when Xiao Yutong asked her to return the lunch box, as if afraid she would steal it.
Song Xian pretended not to want to give it back. “This is the first meal Director Xiao has made for me, and it’s our first time, so it should be kept as a memento,” she teased, raising an eyebrow at Xiao Yutong.
Xiao Yutong didn’t want to waste words and gave her a meaningful look.
Song Xian only wanted to tease Xiao Yutong and placed the lunch box on the desk.
She turned her back to leave, and Xiao Yutong relaxed. But suddenly, Song Xian turned around again, placing both hands on the desk, her slender arms trapping Xiao Yutong between the desk and her body.
Song Xian stepped forward slightly, forcing Xiao Yutong to lean tightly against the desk.
Xiao Yutong said, “Song Xian, what are you trying to do? This is the company.”
Song Xian replied, “I know this is the company. So, Director Xiao, if the client likes my plan, how are you going to reward me?”
Maybe it was because they were too close or the air was too warm, but Xiao Yutong felt her throat dry and her body temperature rise, her ears burning hot.
She tried hard to control her unusual feelings, hiding her nervousness, and forced out, “If you really get the advertisement, the company will give you a bonus.”
Song Xian got closer, “I’m not talking about the company, I’m talking about you.”
“Xiao Yutong.” Those three words were slowly uttered.
Their lips were no more than ten centimeters apart. Xiao Yutong reached out to push Song Xian away but found her own hand soft and weak. Instead of pushing her away, it felt like she was resisting but also welcoming.
Fearing Song Xian’s further approach, she grabbed Song Xian’s wrist behind her back and noticed the watch on her hand. She glanced back, trying to pry her hand loose, but failed.
Her arm was so thin but so strong. She couldn’t compete with strength, so she resorted to words.
“Song Xian, don’t overstep your boundaries.”
Seeing Xiao Yutong’s shy and annoyed look, Song Xian was delighted. So the director could be shy too! Her goal achieved, she happily let go of the frightened little white rabbit.
Song Xian smiled, “Then let’s say you agreed.” Before Xiao Yutong could respond, she ran out.
Xiao Yutong pushed her hair back and blew some air, feeling very hot. If she had a mirror, she would see her ears red as if bleeding.
When Song Xian came out, Zhang Xin from the guest services department was just returning from lunch. He joked, “Wow, already making your move?”
Seeing Zhang Jin, Song Xian didn’t bother hiding and even added fuel to the fire in front of this number one rival. “If you like someone, you gotta go for it. Just wait, I’ll be your director’s wife in less than a month.”
Song Xian: “Pfft, director’s wife? That was a slip of the tongue. She’s just”
“Tch,” Zhang Xin rolled his eyes, clearly not believing her, “Keep dreaming.”
“Dreaming,” Song Xian snorted, arms crossed, boldly said, “I ask you, have you ever seen Director Xiao call an employee into the office at this time?”
She pointed to the watch on her wrist; the minute hand stopped at 12:40. Seeing Zhang Xin’s doubtful look, she happily returned to her desk, patting her belly, satisfied she had eaten her wife’s meal and smelled her scent.
Ah! What a wonderful day. Joining Jin Cheng was a great decision.
An hour later, colleagues returned one by one. Everyone worked hard all afternoon, finally handing the plan to Xiao Yutong at the last minute before leaving.
This time, Team 3 entered together. Zhou Yao was at the front, handing the plan to Xiao Yutong. Xiao Yutong studied it for over twenty minutes. They stood there like punished children, legs aching, not daring to move, especially Zhang Xin, who was wearing sky-high heels.
Song Xian was okay; she wore flats and quietly watched Xiao Yutong’s every move from the back row, raising an eyebrow and noticing the faint smile on her lips. She didn’t feel tired, but rather enjoyed it.
Song Xian also noticed a little habit of Xiao Yutong’s: when thinking, she would tap the table lightly with her fingers but without making a sound. When confused, she’d furrow her brows and gently bite her lower lip. It was all so cute and alluring. She liked it so much she wanted to scream. She laughed quietly from excitement.
Those in front glanced back at her, then turned to look at Xiao Yutong. Xiao Yutong lifted her gaze from the plan and looked at Song Xian.
“Song Xian.”
Everyone was shocked, sweating for Song Xian and themselves.
Song Xian: “…” Not serious, right? Just a little laugh and I get scolded?
Xiao Yutong said, “You will present to the client tomorrow.”
Song Xian was confused and asked, “Me?”
Xiao Yutong: “Any problem?”
Song Xian shook her head, “No.”
Xiao Yutong: “Good. Then that’s it for today.”
After leaving the office, everyone began to whisper.
“Why did the director let Song Xian go?”
“Yeah!”
“Usually, isn’t it the director or at least the team leader who presents? How come…”
That person glanced at Song Xian. Song Xian didn’t avoid the gaze, staring right back.
Song Xian thought: If you’ve got the guts, keep talking!
Though usually playful and easy-going, Song Xian wouldn’t tolerate gossip from those she didn’t like. She was ready for fights if needed.
“Little Song, don’t listen to them. Prepare well tonight. If you don’t understand, call me anytime,” Zhou Yao patted her shoulder comfortingly.
“Thanks,” Song Xian said and returned to her desk to pack up. Zhou Yao was nice but made her a bit uncomfortable whenever she came close.
She still preferred hanging out with someone like Zhang Xin. It wasn’t about age; after all, she liked Xiao Yutong more not only liked spending time with her but also liked sleeping with her, liked the sound of her breathing by her ear.
What was wrong with her? Why did everything always lead back to Xiao Yutong? Song Xian shook her head but smiled widely.
Song Xian and Zhang Xin walked to the bus stop, just four stops from their apartment complex and within walking distance. This way, she could often take the bus and save money.
The setting sun cast slanting rays. To avoid glare, Song Xian put on sunglasses. The bus stopped and started; she sat by the window, resting her head on the glass, watching the passing vehicles, feeling a strange emptiness inside.
During school, she was always with a crowd, laughing and chatting. She was used to noise but not yet to being alone.
Just then, Jiang Chen called.
“Busy bee, off work?”
“Just got off, preparing to go home and tidy up.”
“Tonight, sister’s treating you to dinner. Wanna come?”
“Sister?” Song Xian was momentarily stunned before realizing Jiang Chen meant “sister.” “Not tonight, I have things to do at home. Next time I’ll treat.”
“Alright, you get busy.”
After hanging up, the bus stopped at the station opposite her complex. Crossing one road led to the main gate.
Waiting for the elevator, Song Xian idly browsed her phone, opening Xiao Yutong’s profile in their work group chat. Xiao Yutong’s account seemed for work only, with no personal posts.
It would be great if she could add Xiao Yutong’s private WeChat to bother her anytime.
She found Xiao Yutong’s phone number in the design department’s group chat, saved it in her contacts, then searched it on WeChat.
She sent a friend request with a note: “I’m Song Xian, have some questions about the wedding dress advertisement.”
How could she refuse that?
Ding! The elevator finally came up from the basement. As the doors opened, she smelled a familiar scent her favorite green apple fragrance.
Looking up, their eyes met instantly.
Author’s note:
Song Xian: “I’m not overstepping! We’re already very close; if I get any closer, well… (shy, can’t say).”
