This Director Is Not To Be Trifled With - Chapter 7
The Design Department only hired one person this time. As one of the largest advertising companies in Qingchuan City, Jin Cheng attracted many applicants. That Song Xian managed to secure a spot clearly meant she had the capability.
As the Design Director, Xiao Yutong personally reviewed all new hires. However, she’d been too busy at the time, constantly on business trips, with no time to handle the onboarding process. So she delegated it entirely to the HR department, telling them to simply send over the chosen candidate’s file for her to glance at.
But then, that whole Liu Qianwen incident happened, throwing all her plans into disarray. She didn’t even get a chance to look at Song Xian’s file. That’s how such a “one-night stand” kind of mistake ended up happening.
Now, she regretted it deeply. Even though they’d reached some kind of understanding, and Song Xian likely wouldn’t talk about it, the younger woman’s persistent attention was becoming a headache. Still, passion in young people tends to be short-lived give it a few days, and if she meets someone prettier, she’ll probably forget all about it.
Song Xian was indeed good at her job. As for her character well, apart from being a bit annoying, there weren’t any serious issues. The rest was her private life and had nothing to do with work.
Xiao Yutong kept feeling like she saw her past self in Song Xian her enthusiasm and confidence, even the way she’d nap face-down at her desk. It reminded her of her own startup days: full of hope, bold and relentless, able to bounce back from exhaustion with just one good sleep.
In your thirties, you find yourself easily moved by the drive of young people like that. So, she wanted to give Song Xian a shot. The idea came from Song Xian herself, and Xiao Yutong believed she could do it.
But now, she was starting to regret it.
“You actually followed me here?” That was the first thought that crossed her mind when she saw Song Xian.
Considering everything Song Xian had done before, it wasn’t entirely impossible. Looked like she really needed to re-evaluate this person’s character. After all, “following someone” counts as invading privacy. Taken further, it could even break the law.
Honestly, someone who could casually pick up a woman at a bar and sleep with her what wouldn’t she do? For all she knew, maybe stalking people was a regular thing for her.
Xiao Yutong (internally): Who the hell did I even sleep with?
Song Xian: “…”
Pointing at herself, Song Xian asked, “Me? Stalking you?” She stepped into the elevator just before it closed, causing Xiao Yutong to quickly shift to the side.
Song Xian added, “Director Xiao, been watching too many TV dramas?”
Seeing Song Xian enter the elevator, Xiao Yutong thought of another possibility and asked, “You live here too?”
Then an even scarier thought popped into her mind.
“Yeah, just moved in yesterday. Didn’t expect Director Xiao to live here too,” Song Xian replied with a smile that sent shivers down Xiao Yutong’s spine.
So Xiao Yutong really did live here. That scent she’d noticed in the morning it had come from her. She had taken the same elevator Xiao Yutong had taken, walked the same hallway.
How blissful! Who knew they might even end up being next-door neighbors!
Song Xian pressed her floor number first, then waited for Xiao Yutong to press hers. She looked at the glowing floor number for a long moment before pressing the button for the 16th floor.
Song Xian (internally, delighted): So she’s below me!
As the elevator rose, Xiao Yutong clutched her purse tightly. God, why does this devil live above me? It’s not enough to get harassed at work, now she’s following me home too. Should I just kick her out of the company?
The tiny space made it hard to breathe. She stared at the elevator numbers as if that would make them go faster. At the same time, she stayed alert, worried Song Xian might suddenly do something.
Xiao Yutong: Should I call the police?
Ding~ The 16th floor finally arrived. Xiao Yutong breathed a sigh of relief and stepped out in her high heels, feeling a rare sense of liberation.
But just as she was about to fully exit, a strong hand grabbed her wrist. The warmth from that palm nearly scorched her skin. Before she could react, she was pulled back into the elevator.
Then, a searing kiss landed on her lips. It wasn’t an accident Song Xian did it on purpose. Xiao Yutong struggled to free her hand, but Song Xian’s other hand was already wrapped around her waist. The elevator doors closed again. She had nowhere to run.
What was worse after a few seconds, she actually started to enjoy the kiss. She could feel Song Xian’s soft lips and her warm tongue teasing around her lips, as if testing the waters, playfully lingering but never entering.
Her body began to melt, like being electrocuted and Song Xian was the source of the current. She couldn’t describe the feeling. She had kissed Liu Qianwen before, sure, but it always felt mechanical, even if there was some emotion involved. It had never felt like this.
Liu Qianwen used to say kissing her made her weak in the knees. Xiao Yutong always thought she was just being dramatic. Why had she never felt that way herself?
Now she understood it was real.
Under Song Xian’s teasing, her mind began to slip, and she instinctively started to respond to the kiss. Whatever. I wasn’t afraid to sleep with her why should I be afraid of a kiss?
Sensing her response, Song Xian let go of her wrist and wrapped both arms around her waist. Xiao Yutong moved her arm up between them and hooked it around Song Xian’s neck, indulging in the incredible kiss.
Just as she was about to fully surrender and welcome the invasion, Song Xian suddenly stopped, pulling back slightly to put some distance between them. Then she stared at her lips like they were something strange and fascinating smiling slightly, and asked:
“So? How was it?”
Her voice was soft and gentle, but in the small elevator space, it echoed clearly as if etched into Xiao Yutong’s mind.
Xiao Yutong: “How was what?”
Song Xian: “Everyone says I’m a good kisser. What do you think, Director Xiao?”
As she spoke, her gaze rose to meet Xiao Yutong’s. The look between them became subtly complex.
Song Xian thought: There really are two different people cold, icy Director Xiao and the fiery, passionate Xiao Yutong.
Xiao Yutong blinked slowly, her lashes fluttering, then lowered her eyes. She gave a light kiss back on Song Xian’s lips.
“Not bad.”
“Not bad. Not bad. Not bad.” Those two words echoed endlessly in Song Xian’s head when she left the elevator, when she entered her apartment, when she showered, even when she lay down in bed.
Not bad? Song Xian, a veteran of the dating scene, always praised for her technique and she got a measly “not bad”?
She tossed and turned on her bed, eventually calling one of her exes to ask about her kissing skills only to get scolded, of course.
She lay in bed thinking for a long time and came to a conclusion it must be that Xiao Yutong was lying. Although she appeared calm and composed on the surface, Director Xiao was a great actress. Hiding her emotions was a piece of cake for her.
Yes, that had to be it.
Xiao Yutong had definitely lied. The moment she walked in the door, her legs nearly gave out and she almost fell. She had to lean against the door to catch her breath for a while before she calmed down. She was clearly aware that she had a physical reaction to Song Xian. Fortunately, her hair was down—otherwise, her burning-hot ears would’ve given her away.
She first put some rice in the cooker, then went to take a shower, washing away the underwear that betrayed her spring-filled desires.
She had never felt such a strong urge even when she was with Liu Qianwen. How did she suddenly become a lustful woman who couldn’t be satisfied? In the elevator, she had lost her mind and kissed Song Xian. And at the office, she would occasionally sneak glances at Song Xian, with her mind constantly conjuring up indecent images.
As she showered, she looked at herself in the mirror and silently thought:
“Xiao Yutong, you’re just a typical woman in your thirties hungry like a wolf. You’re human too. This is just a normal psychological need.”
It must be the aftermath of a one-night stand.
A cold shower in the summer was just perfect. After she rinsed off, the heat that lingered on her body was finally gone. She casually stir-fried two dishes, ate a little, then went to the study to review the three submitted proposals. She made some adjustments to the details—the client would come in the afternoon, and handing them to Song Xian in the morning would still be on time.
Although Song Xian’s face occasionally popped into her head as she worked, it didn’t affect her efficiency or the quality of her edits.
Very soon, she was finished.
Seeing that it was almost 10:30 PM, she prepared to go to bed. But then suddenly, the doorbell rang. Strange who would come by so late?
As a woman living alone, she was naturally cautious. She didn’t open the door right away but instead checked the screen by the door.
On the monitor stood Song Xian.
Xiao Yutong (thinking): Why is she here?
Xiao Yutong had no intention of opening the door. She absolutely couldn’t let Song Xian in. She had nearly lost control in the elevator how could she handle being alone at home with her?
But Song Xian showed no signs of leaving. She kept pressing the bell, and eventually started knocking on the door. At this rate, she’d end up waking the neighbors.
Helplessly, she opened the door.
She didn’t believe Song Xian would actually do anything. After all, she had eaten more than seven or eight years’ worth of rice more than Song Xian.
But the moment she opened the door, she regretted it.
She really would.
Without saying a word, Song Xian kissed her again. The door slammed shut with a “bang.” This kiss was like a raging storm wild and hungry. In seconds, Xiao Yutong was pinned against the shoe cabinet, then dragged toward the sofa.
She tried her best to push Song Xian away, but she had no idea where the girl got such strength she just couldn’t get her off. Between kisses, she managed to squeeze out a few words:
“Song Xian, Song Xian…”
“Song Xian, wait… Wait a second.”
Song Xian finally stopped, panting.
“Wait for what? Don’t tell me you don’t want this.”
Song Xian leaned in for another kiss, when suddenly
“Grrrrrr”
Her stomach growled.
Awkward. So, so awkward.
Turns out Song Xian hadn’t eaten dinner.
The two looked at each other for a second then burst into laughter.
“So, our ice-cold Director Xiao actually knows how to laugh!” Song Xian teased in the midst of the awkwardness.
Xiao Yutong replied, “When something’s funny, of course I’ll laugh.”
Something funny? Was Xiao Yutong calling her funny?
What followed was a spontaneous trip outside. Using the excuse that she had just moved in and had no food at home, Song Xian dragged Xiao Yutong out to a BBQ stall just outside the neighborhood.
BBQ and beer let’s see if she can resist.
“What? Director Xiao’s never been to a place like this?”
The street stall was crowded and noisy. Seeing Xiao Yutong looking around nervously, Song Xian asked.
“I used to come often. But work got too busy, so I stopped,” Xiao Yutong replied.
“Aren’t you going to eat?” Song Xian asked while stuffing a skewer into her mouth.
“I already ate,” Xiao Yutong answered.
“Oh.”
Just as Song Xian was thinking of a way to get Xiao Yutong to drink, Xiao Yutong spoke first.
“Song Xian, there’s something we need to talk about.”
This was the real reason she agreed to come out tonight.
“That night at the bar… I was in a really dark place in my life. That’s why I did something so irrational. But now we’re both sober you understand what I mean, right?”
She couldn’t keep entangling with Song Xian like this. Song Xian was smart she would understand. She had to understand.
Song Xian put down her skewer, picked up a bottle of beer, opened it with one hand, and handed it to Xiao Yutong.
Song Xian:
“I understand.”
