Desert Island Girl (Pure Lily) - Chapter 16
On the third day of being stranded on the deserted island, no signs of rescue appeared in the sky or on the sea.
The sea surface had almost no wind, and although the waves stayed calm under the bright sunshine, this beauty offered no hint of hope.
However, the girls paid little attention to this at the moment—they woke up early and prepared to empty the other three warehouses.
Of course, their lack of concern did not mean they wanted to stay on the island; it was merely a choice they made because they could not leave.
Notably, Miss Jiang Ning, exhausted from the previous day, felt intense pain all over her body and could barely get out of bed, so only four girls worked today.
They returned to the ship, where the other three cargo holds sat close to the fruit warehouse, all along the same corridor.
Although they visited yesterday and took some snacks, the dim lighting prevented them from seeing clearly.
So, when they pushed open the door, a cool breeze rushed out from behind it, and the four girls gasped in shock as they saw the scene inside.
Meat! So much meat!
At a glance, various types of meat—red and white—sat neatly in transparent plastic boxes on shelves and in freezers.
Barefoot, the girls stepped lightly into the flooded warehouse.
Two beams of sunlight streamed through the portholes, casting ripples on the water’s surface and creating a shimmering glow on the surrounding walls.
Pork, beef, chicken, tenderloin, lamb, ribs—Mu Xiaoyang spotted at least five or six types of meat!
In the corner, stacks of cured ham waited—perfect for slicing and grilling or frying in a pan, essential for any party!
“Yue—!”
Before anyone could say anything, Bai Niao suddenly vomited.
“Mu Mu! What’s wrong?”
Startled, Mu Xiaoyang quickly turned to check on her.
The moment she turned, a strong, rotting stench hit her from a freezer in front of Mu Mu, nearly making Mu Xiaoyang vomit too!
Yi Yun and Lin Tingting quickly stepped back, covering their noses and standing in a corner.
Mu Mu, closest to the freezer, nearly fainted from the smell.
She hurriedly pushed the freezer lid back down, and the foul odor in the air eased slightly.
The pungent smell gave Mu Xiaoyang a headache.
She frowned and tapped her head hard.
“My God… Mu Mu, what was in that freezer? It stinks!”
“Phew… it’s seafood—lobster, octopus, oysters, and the like,” Mu Mu said, wiping her mouth and leaning on the freezer, looking unusually weak.
Noticing the sunlight shining directly on the freezer, Mu Xiaoyang quickly understood the issue: the freezer had no power, and its position allowed sunlight to warm it.
Although the ship’s interior stayed cool, the seafood, piled up and trapped in a warm spot for two days, could not help but stink.
Seeing the other three girls look a bit regretful, Mu Xiaoyang waved her hand.
“It’s okay, everyone, it’s just seafood—we’re surrounded by the ocean, so are we really worried about running out of seafood?
Coconut crabs on the beach, shellfish left after the tide, fish, small octopuses, starfish, seaweed—here, seafood is the least valuable thing!”
Her words made sense, and with so much meat available, the girls could eat well for a while.
Perhaps rescue would arrive before they finished the meat. With this thought, the girls felt less regret.
Their attention returned to the warehouse.
Compared to yesterday’s fruit, the meat here was not as plentiful because meat and seafood were the most popular items on the cruise and got consumed quickly.
As Mu Xiaoyang, Mu Mu, and Yi Yun discussed how long it would take to move the meat and ham, Lin Tingting, standing to the side, quietly raised her hand and said weakly, “Um… sisters…”
“Hm? What’s up, Tingting?”
Mu Xiaoyang looked at her curiously, and Mu Mu and Yi Yun turned to her as well.
The girls’ gazes made Lin Tingting slightly nervous, but she hesitated and said, “I… I mean… is moving all this meat out really a good idea?”
Seeing her sisters frown and fall silent, Lin Tingting lowered her head and dared not speak further.
Mu Xiaoyang quickly said, “No, no, it’s okay, Tingting, go ahead and speak. We’re just thinking about why you said that.”
Seeing Mu Mu and Yi Yun nod and smile at her, Lin Tingting gathered her courage and waved her hands up and down.
“Look, it’s much cooler here than outside, even a bit cold, right? I think… keeping the meat and vegetables here is actually fine, and they’ll last longer. When we want to eat something, we can just come get it. I think we’ll eat most of this food before any big rain comes.”
“But what if a big rain comes suddenly?”
Yi Yun, cautious by nature, felt safer moving the supplies to a place they could keep an eye on.
“It’s okay!” Lin Tingting quickly explained.
“As long as it’s not extreme weather like the day the ship sank, it’ll be fine. With the time we save, we can move all the snacks first—we really need a place to live, right? Time is precious, sisters.”
After a moment of thought, Mu Xiaoyang looked at everyone.
“What do you all think? I think Tingting makes sense—we really need a place to live, and saving half a day would help us a lot.”
“Well… I’m just worried about the water on the floor. I don’t know if the meat will be okay here,” Yi Yun said hesitantly.
Mu Mu touched her chin.
“It should be fine, right? The water’s not deep, just barely over our ankles.”
“Actually… the meat isn’t a big issue, but whether we keep the vegetables here or move them outside, some will probably spoil,” Mu Xiaoyang said with a helpless sigh.
“Having too many supplies is also a headache…”
After much discussion, Mu Xiaoyang and the others decided to leave the meat and vegetables here for now and move all the snacks first.
They would use the saved time to search for tools on the ship to build shelter—ideally, a tent.
Lin Tingting stood to the side, rubbing her fingers, feeling anxious.
She offered her opinion with good intentions, but she wasn’t sure if it was right.
If her suggestion led to ruined supplies, she would feel guilty enough to “find a tree and crash into it.”
Feeling uneasy, Lin Tingting really wanted to say, “Maybe we should think it over again?”
But she sighed, regretting speaking up in the first place.
With some frustration, Lin Tingting and the others went to the snack cargo hold for the second time.
Although they came the previous night, seeing so many supplies again excited the girls—even Lin Tingting, despite her low mood, felt her spirits lift.
Countless supplies filled the warehouse—boxes upon boxes of snacks, spicy strips, candy, ice cream, instant noodles, drinks, and pastries.
Mu Xiaoyang never imagined that these high-calorie junk foods would one day look so appealing to her.
With these supplies, they could live on the island like it was a vacation.
The girls’ joyful eyes met, each understanding the other’s look—it meant they would take everything here.
Since the snacks were not too heavy, even Lin Tingting could carry a large box at once.
Mu Mu, limited by the boxes’ size, couldn’t carry much despite her strength.
The work made time pass quickly. Since the girls woke early and the task was light, they moved all the snacks to the ship’s stern just before noon.
Running back to their temporary camp to grab a hook rope, Mu Xiaoyang saw Miss Jiang Ning, usually lively, leaning quietly against a pillow, gazing at the sea.
Her calm look and reclining pose gave her an air of “noble elegance.”
Mu Xiaoyang thought, “So, a quiet Miss Jiang Ning is this beautiful…”
But more than that, she felt sorry for her.
They were so busy working that they neglected Jiang Ning.
Walking over and waving, Mu Xiaoyang smiled at her.
“Hey, Miss, what are you thinking about?”
“Huh? Oh… it’s you, Xiaoyang. Nothing, I’m just bored and spacing out,” Jiang Ning said, sitting up and scratching her head embarrassedly.
“Sorry… I’m so useless…”
Mu Xiaoyang thought Jiang Ning felt guilty for not helping, so she sat beside her, took her warm hand, and smiled reassuringly.
“How could you say that? Miss, you’re the most distinguished person here. Just staying here gives us so much encouragement!”
Jiang Ning’s small frame straightened a bit, her face showing a mix of pride and disbelief.
She rubbed her nose and said proudly, “Not… not bad! I didn’t expect Xiaoyang to have such high awareness!”
With a wry smile, Mu Xiaoyang’s eyes held some apology. “It might be busy for a while, so you’ll have to stay alone for a bit, Ning.
Once we move the snacks, we’ll keep you company.”
“Hmph, go ahead! This Miss will sit steady at the command post and direct your battle!” Jiang Ning said with a smug look.
Seeing her proud expression, Mu Xiaoyang genuinely liked this little ray of sunshine.
After giving Jiang Ning a few more instructions, Mu Xiaoyang grabbed the hook rope and left with peace of mind.
Watching Mu Xiaoyang’s departing figure, Jiang Ning grew quiet again.
She gripped the necklace at her chest, her eyes showing a faint reluctance.
