Devil or Angel (GL) - Chapter 21
Feeling the not-so-wide, slightly stiff yet somehow warm chest behind her, and looking at the steaming bowl of porridge in front of her, Zhi Yu was suddenly overcome with homesickness.
She remembered that whenever she caught a cold or had a fever as a child, her mother would do everything to coax her into taking medicine. Thinking of this, tears unconsciously fell from her eyes. Although she had only been away for a few days, she already missed home terribly.
Anyone who has left their hometown feels this way when wronged—missing family far away—because in their hearts, only family can offer genuine, selfless love. Especially for Zhi Yu, thinking of those who were like parents to her, yet not her biological parents, she could not hold back her emotions.
Yiyang had originally wanted to see what the woman was doing, as there was no movement at all. Then, she noticed tears appearing on the back of Zhi Yu’s hand holding the spoon. Slowly, they slid down her fair, slender fingers.
Startled, Yiyang looked down. The woman in her arms was crying! She panicked. “Old woman, I didn’t hurt you! Why are you crying?”
But the more Yiyang spoke, the more unstoppable Zhi Yu’s tears became. Yiyang held the spoon in one hand and gently patted her like a child with the other. “Oh, don’t cry, don’t cry. You’re grown up—aren’t you embarrassed?”
“Mind your own business!”
“Now you understand how hard it is, right? I advise you to leave that man early. Then you wouldn’t have to suffer like this. Find a stable job, live an ordinary life—it’s not so bad. Although I live in a wealthy family, happiness has long disappeared from my dictionary. Money isn’t everything.”
Yiyang’s ultimate goal was still to persuade Zhi Yu to leave Zhang Guodong. Hearing this, Zhi Yu immediately stopped crying. “If all you’ve done is for that, I can tell you clearly—I will not leave my father.”
“Of course, I’m only being nice to persuade you to leave! Do you think I actually enjoy taking care of you and worrying about you? Since we can’t agree, fine. Here’s the porridge and medicine—I’ll leave them for you. Take care of yourself. Goodbye!” Saying that, Yiyang decisively set down the spoon and left.
She had entered the room not to give that speech, but because of a kind of concern she didn’t want to admit. Yet in the end, it turned into mutual hurt. Perhaps their identities dictated that they could never get along peacefully.
For the following week, the two were busy with their own affairs. Even under the same roof, they occasionally met or shared meals, but conversation never resumed. The usual playful quarrels disappeared completely. This atmosphere unnerved Liu Ma and made Zhang Guodong uneasy.
Yiyang felt that since her good intentions to persuade Zhi Yu to leave wouldn’t work, she might as well stop wasting words. She chose to ignore her.
For Zhi Yu, it was somewhat relieving. Without the other’s harsh words, she felt much better. But this couldn’t last. Without interaction, how could she continue with Zhang Guodong’s plans?
Following Zhang Guodong’s advice, Zhi Yu took the initiative, trying to chat casually whenever there was a chance. But the little brat ignored her, even deliberately saying things to provoke her, yet remained indifferent and silent—completely unlike her usual self.
Zhi Yu was incredulous. The reason Yiyang seemed aloof was mostly that she didn’t have time for arguments. She had been busy with the brochure—contacting shoot locations, interviewing models—and returned home exhausted, with barely any energy left to bicker, which even improved her sleep quality.
That night, as usual, Yiyang chatted with Liu Ma after dinner, then went upstairs. Feeling tired, she washed up and lay down, quickly falling asleep, only to dream of her mother, whom she hadn’t dreamed of in a long time.
“Yiyang, don’t let that woman succeed. Remember, you only have one mother. You must help me protect what belongs to us…”
In the dream, her mother seemed to know everything that had happened recently. But this was likely just Yiyang’s imagination. The dream ended with the image of her mother covered in bl00d.
Yiyang woke up in a sweat, throat parched. She turned on the light and looked for her water cup, only to find it empty. She went downstairs to get water.
After drinking, she checked the time: only 10 PM. Feeling listless, she prepared to return to bed. Passing her mother’s room, she heard strange noises inside.
“That old woman, no need to shout so loud, embarrassing!”
As she muttered, a sudden, piercing scream erupted. Her temper flared. She knocked on the door. “Hey! Could you keep it down? Some of us are trying to sleep!”
The door suddenly opened. Inside, the woman emerged wearing a bathrobe with a towel wrapped around her head, shouting, “There’s a mouse! There’s a mouse!”
“Really? Are you seeing things? We don’t have mice here.”
“Go look in the bathroom!”
Seeing the woman cower behind her, Yiyang softened. Still, she cautiously glanced inside to confirm the man wasn’t there, then stepped in.
“Such a timid thing. Fine, I’ll help you check.”
Yiyang closed the door and carefully approached the bathroom. Zhi Yu nervously followed.
“Why close the door? Just chase it out!” Zhi Yu whispered.
“Foolish woman. Keeping the area small makes it easier to find. If it runs elsewhere, it could destroy everything. Then you’ll have to pay!”
They slowly arrived at the bathroom. Yiyang carefully inspected every corner. “Nothing… Where is it? There’s nothing!”
“Ah!” Zhi Yu felt something furry crawl over her foot, screamed, and grabbed Yiyang’s clothes.
Yiyang, her pajamas nearly wrinkled from the grip, turned to pull her hand away—and noticed the bathrobe had fallen to the floor.
Still scared, Zhi Yu’s eyes were tightly shut, oblivious that she was now completely exposed.
At this, Yiyang forgot about the mouse. She couldn’t help but take in the perfect body in front of her. Previously, the clothes had concealed her, but now every curve was visible, accompanied by a faint, natural fragrance. Her heartbeat accelerated, breathing quickened.
Before knowing Lin Wei, Yiyang had never understood love. She had only seen unrealistic romance dramas on TV. When she and Lin Wei were together, intimacy was limited to hugs and kisses.
It wasn’t that Yiyang wanted more—she just wanted to be capable of protecting the woman she loved before she could truly have her. But she never got the chance.
Now, faced with a stranger’s body, a strange heat rose within her. She couldn’t explain the feeling: it was unwanted, yet irresistible, as if a strong magnetic force drew her closer.
Her original intention to pull Zhi Yu away disappeared. Yiyang slowly approached, observing every curve and detail of her body.
The sight of glistening br3asts with pink tips, the flat stomach, and finally the patch of soft hair below—partially hidden—made her feel like a voyeur.
Trying to look away, she struggled to swallow and redirect her attention, only to notice the real culprit at the foot of the bed—the little hamster she had been searching for all day.
“Still there? I felt it crawl on my foot,” Zhi Yu anxiously asked.
“Ah, it’s behind you! Coming over!” Yiyang teased, wanting to frighten her.
Zhi Yu, now pressed close to Yiyang, pleaded, “Quick! Get it away!”
With the fully exposed woman so close, Yiyang felt her bl00d boil. Her heart raced uncontrollably. Especially with Zhi Yu’s hands on her neck and head resting on her chest.
Though this was her enemy, and she suspected Zhi Yu might be acting, Yiyang couldn’t maintain composure. Her breathing became uneven. Even the women in the bars hadn’t affected her this way—the fox spirit’s seductive power was undeniable.
Yiyang had only ever had one girlfriend—Lin Wei—and had only embraced her. But now, unconsciously, she wrapped her arms around this “old woman.”
Her hands gently stroked Zhi Yu’s smooth back, her chest pressing against the soft body. Even this small contact filled Yiyang with comfort and satisfaction—she didn’t want to let go.
