Devil or Angel (GL) - Chapter 31
Looking at those photos of the person who was exquisitely beautiful even without retouching, Yìyáng’s heart had long since flown away. She wished she could appear before that person right now and clearly tell her her true feelings again, and not out of momentary impulse.
However, judging by Zhī Yǔ’s attitude, it seemed she could not rush; she had to proceed step by step. Since Zhī Yǔ couldn’t accept this kind of relationship, and was furthermore constrained by their current relationship, Yìyáng truly wasn’t sure if she could win her heart and take the beauty home.
Before she knew it, it was already lunchtime. At the appointed time, Yìyáng rushed out under Xiǎo Měi’s strange gaze. She jogged all the way until she found a flower shop and pushed the door open.
She looked around inside but couldn’t make up her mind. The shop owner saw her hesitation and came forward to ask: “Is there anything I can help you with? Who are you planning to buy flowers for? Maybe I can give you a recommendation.”
“It’s no trouble, I’ll just look around for myself first!” Yìyáng politely declined the owner’s offer.
But seeing her remain undecided, the owner walked beside her, analyzing what kind of flowers were suitable for what kind of person. In the end, it seemed only the commonly suggested roses were appropriate.
Ultimately, Yìyáng chose a bouquet of roses that clearly expressed her feelings, wrote a card to put inside, and instructed the clerk before leaving to ensure the flowers were delivered to the recipient by 5 PM.
The shop owner smiled warmly and repeatedly agreed. After Yìyáng left, she and her apprentice laughed and said: “Did you notice? Judging by the name, this bouquet must be for a woman.”
“So what?”
“It wouldn’t be strange for a man to give flowers to a woman, but the key is that even though that person just now was dressed in a neutral style, she’s a girl too!”
“Boss, what age are we living in? What’s so surprising about that? In my opinion, the one who just left looked quite young, but she was very handsome, and her clothes looked expensive. She’s probably a rich second-generation. If she were pursuing me, I’d consider it.”
“Alright, it looks like I really am out of date. The world is getting uniform!”
While the flower shop owner and her little apprentice were enthusiastically discussing the person who sent the flowers, Yìyáng was already on her way back to the company. She bought a sandwich at a convenience store for lunch. Right now, she felt that even water tastes good when you’re in love.
The afternoon work started again. Zhī Yǔ was clearly out of sorts all day. During the meeting, she was distracted. Zhāng Guódòng even thought she was unwell and told her to go home early to rest.
Seeing the chairman so concerned about Manager Shěn, the other department managers were slightly puzzled. Although the behavior was normal, it felt a little strange, but no one dared to question anything.
When Zhī Yǔ snapped back to reality and saw Zhāng Guódòng’s worried expression and the astonished looks of the others, she quickly said awkwardly: “I apologize, I have a bit of a headache so I’m distracted. Please continue!”
Only after confirming repeatedly that Zhī Yǔ was fine did Zhāng Guódòng continue the unfinished topic. The meeting finally ended close to 4 PM. If there was nothing urgent, they would normally finish work at 5 PM.
Just as Zhī Yǔ returned to her office from the meeting room, the secretary suddenly called out to her: “Manager Shěn, you have a bouquet of flowers. Please sign for it. She said it must be signed for by the person herself.”
Zhī Yǔ was wondering who would send her flowers here since she didn’t know anyone. Seeing that the florist’s person had been waiting for quite some time, she signed for them first.
The young apprentice who delivered the flowers was stunned when she saw Zhī Yǔ. She was truly too beautiful, and the irresistible charm of her mature, dominant type of beauty was simply overwhelming. No wonder women would fall for her.
Finally, under the gaze of all the onlookers, Zhī Yǔ carried the large bouquet of roses into her office. Without a doubt, the area outside had exploded with gossip, everyone guessing who the sender was.
They weren’t the only ones curious; Zhī Yǔ was too. She placed the flowers on the desk and pulled out the card from inside. Upon reading it, she almost fainted. How could this be? She still hadn’t given up!
The card, stark white, was clearly written with: Please forgive my impudent actions towards you yesterday, and I apologize again. But every word I said is true. Can you give me a chance? I will wait for you! Yáng!
Such direct words made it perfectly clear even to the least emotionally aware Zhī Yǔ. But at this moment, this bouquet was like a time bomb that could explode at any minute.
The time for finishing work was approaching, but Zhī Yǔ still stared blankly at the flowers and the card on the desk, showing no sign of wrapping up. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, she directly tossed the eyesore into the trash can. Out of sight, out of mind!
Things thrown away would disappear, but this person couldn’t be ignored! Thinking about this gave Zhī Yǔ a splitting headache. She truly didn’t know what to do. She had been so cold and indifferent this morning, yet she still hadn’t given up.
A moment later, the office door was knocked. It was Zhāng Guódòng: “Zhī Yǔ, I’m going home for dinner today. Come back together with me.”
“I apologize, Chairman Zhāng. I still have some matters to finish. Please tell Aunt Liú not to wait for me for dinner; I’ll get something myself.”
“Take things easy. There’s no rush. I believe you can handle it. Just do it tomorrow.”
Zhāng Guódòng tried his best to persuade her, but Zhī Yǔ insisted on working late. Reluctantly, he had no choice but to go back alone first. Just as he closed the door, he inadvertently glimpsed the bouquet of roses lying in the trash can. His face darkened, and he frowned.
Zhāng Guódòng only guessed that it might be a staff member from the company who sent them. He would never have imagined it was his own biological daughter. If he knew, he would surely explode with anger.
After Zhāng Guódòng left, Zhī Yǔ sat in her chair, pressing her throbbing temples, looking melancholy. She couldn’t hide forever; she had to find a way.
Zhī Yǔ was trying her best to avoid meeting, but Yìyáng was eager to go home and see the person she missed. She especially wanted to know her reaction after receiving the flowers. She had spent the entire afternoon wondering if Zhī Yǔ would like them.
But when she rushed home excitedly, she only saw the person she didn’t want to see. After a glance at him, she went to ask Aunt Liú: “Where’s that old woman? Why hasn’t she returned yet?”
Aunt Liú was a little surprised by her question: “When did you start caring about her so much? Haven’t you two always been at odds?”
“Never mind!”
Seeing the young lady’s impatience, Aunt Liú smiled and said: “Zhī Yǔ is working overtime tonight and won’t be back for dinner.”
“What kind of overtime is she working? That person is already back; why is she dragging her feet at the company? No one is going to know how diligent she is anyway.” Yìyáng muttered to herself while returning to the dining table to eat.
After Aunt Liú finished clearing the table, Zhī Yǔ still hadn’t returned, and Yìyáng started to feel restless. She waited another half hour in the living room without a sign of her, and then suddenly stood up from the sofa.
“What are you doing, boy? You look so fidgety,” Aunt Liú asked with a laugh, seeing her manner.
Yìyáng looked at the darkening sky outside, thought for a moment, and walked toward the door, saying to Aunt Liú: “I have something at the company I need to deal with. I’m going out and will be right back.”
“You rascal, remember not to drink any alcohol!” Aunt Liú shouted worriedly at her retreating figure.
Yìyáng drove all the way to the base of the company building. She looked up at the tall building and couldn’t remember when she had last been here, but the location in her memory was still accurate, so she knew exactly where to go without having to think hard.
After watching the building for a while, Yìyáng finally took a step and walked inside. She pressed the button for the 28th floor in the elevator, took a deep breath, pushed the door open, and found the entire floor was dark.
Yìyáng found the switch and turned on the lights. She glanced around. She had to admit that under Zhāng Guódòng’s management, the company had grown quite large. The exquisite decoration and high-end hardware facilities all displayed the company’s luxury and grandeur.
However, Yìyáng dismissed all of it. If it weren’t for a certain person, she wouldn’t set foot in this company. After searching for a while, she finally found the General Manager’s office.
Seeing the light still on inside, she figured the person must still be there. Yìyáng opened the door and walked in without the slightest hesitation.
Her sudden action startled the zoning-out Zhī Yǔ. She initially thought a thief had broken into the company, but looking up, she saw the person she had deliberately tried to avoid.
“You, what are you doing here?” Zhī Yǔ was clearly very nervous.
“Why aren’t you home so late?” Yìyáng walked close to the office desk, staring openly and directly into Zhī Yǔ’s eyes.
“Does it concern you?”
“I…” Yìyáng was instantly speechless.
Not knowing what to say, Yìyáng lowered her head and looked at her feet like a child who had done wrong. But at the same time, she saw something that made her burn with rage.
In the trash can near her feet, a perfectly intact bouquet of roses lay quietly inside. It was so glaringly visible and deeply stabbed Yìyáng’s heart.
She took a step closer to Zhī Yǔ’s office chair, placed both hands on the edge of the chair, and looked down at the sitting person with full fury: “Why did you throw away the flowers I sent?!”
“There’s no reason. I clearly explained things to you, so why are you still acting this way? Don’t you think you’re letting your father down?”
“Do you love him? Do you really love him? I don’t see how loving you two are,” Yìyáng pressed, pinching her chin repeatedly.
“Love… of course, I love him. Otherwise, why would I have come to Shanghai with him?” Zhī Yǔ avoided her fierce gaze, answering with a slight sense of guilt.
“Look at me and say it again!” Yìyáng turned her face to fully face herself.
“Why should I tell you? What right do you have?”
“You won’t say it, will you? Fine, you brought this on yourself!” No sooner said than done, Yìyáng lowered her head and sealed the constantly tempting red lips, holding Zhī Yǔ’s head and deepening the kiss.
