Devil or Angel (GL) - Chapter 34
While waiting at a red light, Yiyang turned her head to look at Zhiyu, who appeared slightly fatigued. A restricted image flashed rapidly through her mind. She immediately squeezed Zhiyu’s hand tightly: “Did you two do something last night that made you so tired?”
“Crazy!” Zhiyu, of course, knew what she was referring to.
“Did you or didn’t you?”
“Is it that important to you whether I did or didn’t?”
“I’m just asking! I’m just concerned about you as a friend!” Yiyang said, feeling wronged. What she really wanted to say was that it was extremely important to her, and she definitely didn’t want to hear an affirmative answer; she felt she would break down.
The light had already turned green, but Yiyang, still without an answer, remained still. The cars behind them started honking impatiently. Zhiyu couldn’t help herself, so she slowly muttered: “No! I’ve had a bit of a headache these past few days and haven’t rested well!”
Only then did Yiyang gradually come back to her senses, her lips curving into an involuntary smile. She quickly started the car and drove forward, but after a short distance, she pulled over to the side. Zhiyu looked at her confusedly, wondering what she was up to now.
“Woman, wait for me for a moment, I’ll be quick!”
She got out of the car, crossed the road, and disappeared somewhere. Zhiyu leaned weakly against the seat. The recent events, both personal and professional, had left her somewhat exhausted.
Especially the little kid’s sudden confession had left her overwhelmed. Although they were currently interacting as friends on the surface, she vaguely felt things weren’t that simple. Judging by a certain person’s character, she was definitely not the type to give up easily.
As she thought, Zhiyu unconsciously closed her eyes and fell asleep. When Yiyang returned, she saw this scene. It broke her heart. After quietly closing the car door, she gently tapped Zhiyu’s hand.
“Where did you go? Hurry up and start driving!” Zhiyu woke up groggily and said, looking at her.
“Eat this first, and drink some water.” Yiyang didn’t answer her question, but instead focused on opening the medicine she had just bought from the pharmacy and offered her water.
It turned out this person had stopped the car to buy medicine—headache medication, and topical menthol balm. The misunderstanding Zhiyu previously held about her instantly melted into warmth. Under Yiyang’s repeated urging, she swallowed the medicine.
Right after she finished, Yiyang put the cap back on the water bottle, leaned closer, turned Zhiyu’s face toward her own, and then reached out to gently massage her temples with her thumbs.
“Feeling any better? Don’t work so hard. You need to take care of your body, got it?” Yiyang’s tone sounded like a reprimand, but it was filled with endless concern.
“Mmm!” The extremely close distance made Zhiyu’s heart rate quicken. She didn’t dare to look at Yiyang’s gentle eyes, so she lowered her gaze to avoid eye contact.
As she massaged, Yiyang gradually moved her hands down, finally cupping Zhiyu’s face and slowly lifting it. Their eyes met. There was no intense spark, but their hearts both felt an irrepressible restlessness. One was delighted, but the other was troubled.
In the enclosed, quiet space, they could almost hear the strong, powerful beat of a heart, but it was hard to tell whose it was. Looking at the woman who made her increasingly impulsive, Yiyang’s breathing quickened, but she forcefully restrained her desire, constantly reminding herself: Haste makes waste.
She gently caressed the delicate skin that showed no trace of age with her fingertips. Finally, she just swallowed hard and said in a slightly hoarse voice: “Woman, you look so beautiful when you blush!”
“You must not have slept well. I’m not blushing!” Zhiyu refused to admit that she was blushing so pathetically in front of this little kid, especially since her heart rate sped up whenever Yiyang intentionally or unintentionally touched her cheek.
“Fine, then I must have been mistaken. Whatever you say is right!” Knowing she didn’t want to admit it, or rather, didn’t dare to admit it, Yiyang stopped pressing her, and her hands slowly and reluctantly moved away.
Zhiyu finally breathed a sigh of relief when Yiyang moved away. Sometimes she truly didn’t understand what was wrong with her. Every time she was approached by someone 4 years her junior and of the same s3x, her heart beat abnormally fast.
Seeing Zhiyu awkwardly staring out the window, Yiyang’s mouth curved up slightly, and she started the car again to continue the journey.
When they reached the company building, Yiyang quickly got out and opened the car door for Zhiyu. This gesture made Zhiyu feel extremely embarrassed. If anyone saw, they would surely start speculating.
But Yiyang didn’t care about any of that. After Zhiyu got out of the car, she slipped the medicine she had bought into her hand and, in a manner too mature for her age, patted her head: “Woman, remember to take the medicine and apply the balm. If it still doesn’t help, go see a doctor…”
Zhiyu looked at the little kid, who was acting like Liu Ma had possessed her, and couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time: “Alright, alright! Miss Zhang, I’ve noted all your advice!”
“Remember! If I find out you’re not taking the medicine or you still have a headache and don’t see a doctor, I’ll deal with you!” The tone was slightly threatening but full of concern.
“Okay, okay, I know. Go to work now!”
“Mmm, I’m leaving then! I’ll come pick you up tonight.”
Before Zhiyu could refuse, the person had already smiled, waved at her, and driven off in a flash. This person’s habit of speaking without waiting for a response really needed to be fixed!
Yiyang entered the company happily whistling. This immediately piqued the curiosity of the gossipy Xiao Mei at the front desk: “Ooh, Boss, you look absolutely thrilled. Something good must have happened!”
“Mind your own business!”
“Why wouldn’t it be my business? You secretly went to a flower shop yesterday, don’t think I didn’t see you.”
“Uh…” Yiyang was a little helpless that she had been discovered despite her attempts to be discreet.
“And you’re late today! Did you do something naughty with your girlfriend last night?” Xiao Mei smiled meaningfully.
“Comrade Xiao Mei, I’m the boss. I can start work whenever I want. It’s not for a little receptionist like you to lecture me!” Yiyang pretended to put on official airs and huffed away. I’m certainly not going to tell this gossip that I drove a beauty to work this morning!
“Give it a rest, Boss. That act only fools Zhou and the others. I’m Xiao Mei, and I’m not afraid of you. You’re clearly a Hello Kitty trying to pretend to be a tiger.” Xiao Mei giggled, mocking her.
Yiyang was speechless. She only had herself to blame for spoiling her too much. She had even told her own secrets, which felt like letting her grasp a handle on her. There was nothing she could do about the little receptionist.
When she got to her office, Yiyang found that her mind was nowhere near the pile of documents in front of her. Instead, she was focused on the movement of the hour and minute hands on her watch. She really wished time would pass quickly. How great it would be if it were already quitting time.
While one person was staring blankly at the time out of boredom, Zhiyu was swamped with work, not even having time to take a sip of water. She finally got a break during her lunch interval.
After finishing her lunch box, looking at the stack of documents on her desk to sign gave her another headache. Chairman Zhang was content to be a hands-off boss, but it was hard work for her. Just as she was about to continue her unfinished work, she saw the medicine she had casually put down that morning among the papers.
Suddenly recalling the little kid’s seemingly earnest and repeated instructions this morning, and her dead-serious expression, Zhiyu unconsciously smiled. Perhaps even she didn’t realize how some things were subtly changing.
Since her father’s accident, her composure in the face of sudden situations and her calmness when dealing with unconventional transactions had always projected the image of a strong, independent woman. She couldn’t remember how long it had been since she truly smiled.
After leaving her family, she had borne everything alone, enduring the cold sarcasm of that cold-blooded young mistress and suffering the isolation of being alone and without help. On the surface, she was strong, yet only in the dead of night would she occasionally cry silently. Who knew about any of this?
But now, besides her parents, someone actually cared for her. Although she didn’t know Yiyang’s intentions and didn’t want to admit the person’s unconventional feelings for her, she genuinely felt that person’s concern. But even so, their relationship could not change; it had to stop at friends.
“Sigh, Zhang Yiyang, I really don’t know what to do with you.” Zhiyu sighed, marveling at the change in their dynamic, as she picked up and took the medicine.
Just then, Zhang Guodong walked in. When Zhiyu saw him, she quickly stood up and respectfully said, “Chairman Zhang!”
“Zhiyu, don’t be so nervous! We are partners, don’t treat me like your boss. How can we pretend to be a couple if you act like that?”
“Oh, oh, okay!”
“Alright, no more joking. Come out with me and let’s go public with our relationship. It’s time. If we don’t, I’m going to have all the male employees in the company falling head over heels for you!”
Zhang Guodong laughed as he spoke and took Zhiyu’s hand, walking out. Everyone became instantly tense when they saw the Chairman and the General Manager come out. Wait, what were they seeing? The Chairman was actually holding the General Manager’s hand.
Could the rumors all be true? Some of the male colleagues immediately lowered their heads in dejected shame. Sure enough, the beautiful General Manager was already the boss’s property. They hadn’t even had a chance to make a move, let alone claim her for themselves.
Zhang Guodong naturally noted everyone’s expressions—some surprised, some heartbroken. He smiled like a victor and proudly announced: “To prevent misunderstandings among some colleagues that could cause the General Manager unnecessary trouble, I am here today to clarify the relationship between General Manager Shen and myself…”
At this point, the crowd was buzzing with whispers. Zhang Guodong cleared his throat: “You guessed correctly. General Manager Shen is my girlfriend!”
After a moment of astonishment, the employees finally gave a burst of enthusiastic applause. They still had to save face for the boss, and flattery was necessary. After the announcement, Zhang Guodong whispered a few words to Zhiyu before leaving. He said that to increase the effect of authenticity, they should leave work together that evening.
