Did Mrs. Sheng Got Divorced Today? - Chapter 3
The banquet hall was brightly lit.
The crystal chandelier above spilled dazzling streams of light, illuminating the space with clarity.
The conversations within the room mostly revolved around a single topic, and the crowd unconsciously kept glancing at Sheng Pingzhou.
In situations like this, he was always undoubtedly the center of attention.
Ever since he took over the Sheng Family business, he has become accustomed to flattery and reverence.
“…Chairman Sheng, are you listening to me?
A well dressed man held a glass of champagne in hand. His face adorned with a warm and friendly smile. seeing that the man he was talking to had yet to respond, he followed his gaze towards the second floor.
At the corner of the second floor, a slender figure swiftly disappeared.
The man didn’t see who it was and was just about to ask when Sheng Pingzhou withdrew his gaze, lifted his champagne glass to his lips, and gave a slight nod. “Go on.”
The man immediately plastered on a smile. “Where was I… Oh, right, Chairman Sheng…”
Amidst the clinking of glasses, many approached to toast him.
Sheng Pingzhou handled it all with ease.
Surrounded by murmured flattery, his mind, however, replayed the image of Su Wanwu fleeing in panic.
He took a sip of champagne and casually set the glass on a passing waiter’s tray. “Excuse me.”
On the other side of the room, Madam Sheng was already overwhelmed. Seeing that Sheng Pingzhou was about to leave, she quickly signaled to Yuan Ke.
Yuan Ke, who was busy dealing with a group of madams, received the cue and hastily followed behind Sheng Pingzhou. “Chairman Sheng, where are you going?”
He didn’t respond, as if he hadn’t heard her.
She hurried forward and instinctively grabbed his arm. “Chairman Sheng—”
Sheng Pingzhou was only wearing a white shirt, and the thin fabric easily conveyed the warmth of his skin.
Yuan Ke’s palm pressed against his arm, but before she could say another word, she looked up, only to be frozen in place by his cold gaze.
From his superior height, his voice carried a distinct impatience. “Let go.”
Yuan Ke immediately released him, as if she had touched something scalding, and took a few steps back. “I’m sorry, Chairman Sheng…”
Before she could finish, the man had already gone upstairs.
Madam Sheng approached, looking at her with frustration. “I told you to keep him here. How did you end up letting him leave?”
“I’m sorry…”
Yuan Ke lowered her head, still shaken by Sheng Pingzhou’s utterly cold gaze. “Godmother, it seems like Chairman Sheng doesn’t really like me…”
Hearing this, Madam Sheng’s expression darkened even further.
Yuan Ke stood behind her, hesitant to speak, “Actually, Chairman Sheng and Miss Su… they seem to get along fine.”
Madam Sheng let out a cold laugh. “So you’re saying, Pingzhou is treating her well?”
It was all fake!
As his biological mother, how could she not know what was truly in his heart?
“You think he likes Su Wanwu? He’s just repaying a debt of gratitude!”
Yuan Ke was baffled. “…Repaying a debt?”

Upstairs, in the bedroom.
Su Wanwu rushed inside as if fleeing for her life.
She shut the door behind her, her heart pounding wildly. “That was terrifying.”
Had Sheng Pingzhou just seen her calling him an assh0le? What should she do?
How was she going to explain this later?
Ever since their marriage, she had always played the role of a gentle and considerate wife, showing care and attentiveness toward both him and Madam Sheng.
But just then, she had let her true self slip for one brief second, and she got caught!
Would Sheng Pingzhou think she was two-faced?
Would he start to resent her because of it?
Her mind spun with chaotic thoughts, imagining a downward spiral where her act of hypocrisy led to another silent treatment between them, which then escalated into his growing impatience with her, until he finally threw her out of the house.
Just from one unreadable look he had given her, she had already conjured up countless terrifying scenarios.
With a miserable expression, she flopped onto the bed.
“What do I do, what do I do…”
Su Wanwu buried her face into the pillow, until a sudden stroke of inspiration hit her.
She quickly grabbed her phone and searched:
[What are the homophones for ‘assh0le’?]
…Lip-reading shouldn’t be able to differentiate between words with similar pronunciations, right?
If he asked, she could just make up some excuse and brush it off.
As her mind whirred at full speed, she suddenly caught a faint whiff of sweat on herself and frowned.
Tossing her phone onto the pillow, she headed straight for the bathroom.
After their marriage, Sheng Pingzhou occasionally brought her back to this family residence. This bedroom had been his in the past, and his old high school uniforms were still tucked inside the wardrobe.
The first time she came here, there had been no female belongings in the room. It was only later that some of her things found their place.
On the bathroom counter, her small toothbrush and soap sat quietly in the corner—like an outsider encroaching on the original owner’s territory.
Su Wanwu scratched her brow and looked at the two toothbrushes side by side—one black, one white.
A soft smile played on her lips.
On the other side of the door.
Sheng Pingzhou pushed open the door to his room but didn’t see Su Wanwu anywhere.
He loosened his tie and casually tossed it over the back of the sofa. On the frosted glass of the bathroom door to his left, a slender shadow was faintly reflected.
His steps paused for a brief moment.
******
Su Wanwu had assumed Sheng Pingzhou wouldn’t come upstairs so soon, so she enjoyed her shower at a leisurely pace.
She casually pulled on a bathrobe, wrapping it around herself, with her damp hair still dripping. A towel was wrapped around her head as she pushed open the bathroom door.
“…Huh?”
…Where were the clothes she had taken off earlier?
She had been undressing as she walked into the bathroom, tossing her clothes haphazardly onto the floor. They should have been scattered all over the place.
But now, the floor was completely spotless—nothing was left hanging around.
A heart sinking thought crept over her as she took a few steps forward.
Then, she looked up, only to see the man who should have still been downstairs, chatting with others, now lying on the bed instead.
His upper body was bare, and he leaned leisurely against the headboard, absentmindedly fiddling with her phone.
Su Wanwu froze. “…Pingzhou, why are you up here already?”
And why wasn’t he wearing a shirt?
At her words, the man looked up. “Am I not allowed to come up?”
“That’s not what I meant…” Su Wanwu walked in while towel-drying her hair, only to catch sight of his expensive white shirt lying crumpled in the trash bin. She paused mid-step. “Why did you throw your shirt away?”
Sheng Pingzhou didn’t even look up, nor did he answer. He only gave a low, indifferent hum.
Su Wanwu pursed her lips, silently thinking, What a wasteful man!
She went on to look for her clothes, glancing toward the laundry basket. Sure enough, her discarded clothes were all neatly placed inside.
But right on top of the pile was her…
Her face instantly turned bright red.
Sheng Pingzhou really…
If he didn’t care, then why would he go out of his way to pick up her scattered clothes?
But if he did care, then why did he just leave that particular item blatantly on top?
Was he not embarrassed at all?
Sheng Pingzhou withdrew his gaze, letting her stew in her own dilemma, as he continued fiddling with her phone. “Your password.”
Upon hearing this, Su Wanwu looked up. “Why are you using my phone?”
“Just borrowing it for a bit.” Sheng Pingzhou didn’t even lift his head.
“Oh.” Su Wanwu nonchalantly wiped her hair and said, “It’s your birthday.”
The motion of Sheng Pingzhou’s fingers paused briefly, and his dark eyes deepened.
After a moment, he only let out a quiet “Mm.”
Su Wanwu didn’t notice his reaction. Her gaze drifted to the embarrassing garment in the laundry basket. Then she looked back at Sheng Pingzhou.
Seeing that he wasn’t paying attention, she casually tossed the towel she had been using to dry her hair right on top of it to cover it completely.
She let out a sigh of relief. Out of sight out of mind.
The awkwardness dissipated significantly, and even the air felt lighter.
But in the very next second, Sheng Pingzhou looked up at her, his tone laced with amusement. “Before you went upstairs, you called me something… Was it ‘assh0le’?”
Here it was.
The reckoning had come.
Su Wanwu’s heart pounded, but she maintained her composure. “Oh, you must’ve misheard it. I said ‘You are so,’ but I never got to finish. I was going to compliment you.”
Sheng Pingzhou didn’t say anything. He simply patted the empty space beside him. “Come here.”
Su Wanwu kept her cool, climbing onto the bed naturally and lying down beside him.
Then, she saw him turn the phone screen toward her—
[What are the homophones for ‘assh0le’?]
“……”
She decided to make one last attempt. “I-I meant to type something else… You would believe me, right?”
Sheng Pingzhou tossed the phone aside, tugging lightly at the sash of her bathrobe. “If I said I believed you… would you believe me?”
The soft fabric slipped to the floor.
The atmosphere took a sharp turn—
A cool sensation spread over her skin. Just before she was pressed down to the bed, Su Wanwu’s mind was still scrambling for a way to salvage the situation.
But the next moment, all those thoughts faded into a blur of dazzling chaos.
Her hands instinctively pressed against his firm chest before slowly wrapping around his neck.
“Pingzhou…”
She heard herself calling his name, her voice unbearably sweet, with a mist rising in her eyes that refused to dissipate.
“Ca-can we…tu-turn off the lights?”
Sheng Pingzhou braced himself on his arms beside her, lifted her chin, and stared into her eyes.
A moment later, he covered her eyes with his hand. “Now you can’t see.”
…
They did it.
But not till the last step.
Su Wanwu curled up guiltily, listening to the sound of water running in the bathroom.
There was another important reason why she resisted Madam Sheng’s pressure to have children:
She and Sheng Pingzhou weren’t exactly… harmonious.
It might be too soon to say they were incompatible, but to be precise, she and Sheng Pingzhou had never actually succeeded.
They had tried on their wedding night.
But Su Wanwu, exhausted and nervous, pretended to be asleep and got away with it.
Sheng Pingzhou couldn’t possibly do anything to someone who was sound asleep.
Later, there had been two or three more attempts, but she still couldn’t let herself loose.
It wasn’t that she was conservative. She had even taken the initiative twice. But they never made it to the final step.
The main issue lay with her. Facing the person she had a crush on for years, and finally seeing her dream come true, she wanted desperately to present her best self.
Then, she got too tense, and when she got nervous… She kicked Sheng Pingzhou.
Su Wanwu shut her eyes, recalling the man’s utterly dark and stormy expression just moments ago.
She groaned into the blanket.
How could she be such a coward? So frustrating!
******
The shower Sheng Pingzhou took lasted several times longer than usual.
By the time he came out, Su Wanwu had already buried herself under the covers, fast asleep.
He lightened his footsteps, adjusted the air conditioning to a warmer temperature, then walked to the bedside and pulled down the blanket—
Su Wanwu’s face was flushed red, covered in sweat.
It was unclear whether she had been holding her breath for too long or if there was another reason, but with her eyes closed, she slept peacefully.
Sheng Pingzhou gazed at her sleeping face, his deep voice tinged with the faintest trace of amusement. “You used to be fearless as a kid. How did you become so timid?”
He brushed aside her damp hair, his fingers caressing her delicate cheek. “A little hedgehog pretending to be fierce.”
After speaking, he suddenly lowered his head and placed a kiss on her forehead.
Half-asleep, Su Wanwu thought she heard a familiar voice coming from far away.
Her consciousness gradually cleared, and she furrowed her brows.
…As a kid?
She had always been timid as a child. When was she ever fearless?
Besides, she didn’t even know Sheng Pingzhou back then! She only fell in love with him at first sight in high school.
Just as she was about to open her eyes and ask him about it, she suddenly heard Madam Sheng’s voice from the doorway.
“Pingzhou, I have something to discuss with you.”
Su Wanwu immediately abandoned her thoughts and decisively pretended to be asleep.
Sheng Pingzhou pinched her cheek, tucked the blanket around her, and got up to leave the room.
With a “bang,” the door shut behind him.
Su Wanwu instantly threw off the covers and sat up abruptly. “Who had he known since childhood?”
No, the real question was—who was the fearless little hedgehog that he had known since childhood?
She knocked on her own head.
Did she have amnesia or something? Not a chance!
