Did Mrs. Sheng Got Divorced Today? - Chapter 5.1
The sound of steady, low breathing came from behind her.
Su Wanwu carefully lifted the arm draped around her waist and turned her back to him, letting out a barely audible sigh.
Thinking back to their conversation just then, she couldn’t help but scorn herself.
She wasn’t ready to tell Sheng Pingzhou that she wasn’t his savior. She was afraid that this seemingly happy ending of her unrequited love would turn out to be nothing more than an illusion.
In the darkness—
Her eyes shone brightly.
It wasn’t until the sky began to lighten at the horizon that she finally drifted into a hazy sleep.
She hadn’t slept for long before a warm sensation pressed against her ear, as if deliberately disturbing her rest.
“Get up.”
Su Wanwu frowned, letting out a displeased hum before rolling over to the other side.
But not for long, that annoying warmth crept up to her again.
“Okay, okay… I’m getting up…”
She finally responded begrudgingly, just as she was about to open her eyes—
A shadow suddenly loomed over her.
Su Wanwu peeked through a small slit of her barely open eyes. Under the soft glow of her lashes, she saw the enlarged, handsome face of the man before her.
Sheng Pingzhou propped himself up with both hands on either side of her pillow and leaned down, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Su Wanwu instantly woke up.
She clutched the edge of the blanket, savoring this fleeting moment of warmth.
He was always like this. Never responding when she eagerly anticipated it, but giving her an intimate, gentle morning kiss just when she was feeling uneasy and uncertain.
How could she possibly let go?
Su Wanwu closed her eyes and reached out to embrace him.
She leaned against his firm waist, looking drowsy, as if she still hadn’t fully woken up.
Sheng Pingzhou had already gotten dressed. He placed a large hand on the back of her head, gently ruffling her soft hair. “Time to get up, hmm?”
Su Wanwu replied, “Okay.”
She agreed with her words, but her body didn’t follow suit.
Seeing that she remained motionless, Sheng Pingzhou tightened his grip slightly. With a bit of force, Su Wanwu’s head tilted upward—
Seizing the moment, he lowered his head, his warm breath brushing against her skin as he deliberately nudged her soft cheek with the tip of his nose. “…If you don’t get up now, you’ll have to stay and eat breakfast with my mother.”
Su Wanwu bolted upright in shock, her eyes snapping open. “I’m up! I’m up!”
—
The morning light was soft and hazy.
It was still early, and the world was slowly stirring awake.
The thick mist seemed like a yawn from the earth, enveloping the landscape, while the frost clinging to the tree branches and leaves carried an air of drowsy reluctance.
Just as they were about to leave, Madam Sheng hesitated before speaking. “…You finally came back for once, and now you’re leaving so soon? Not even staying for breakfast?”
She frowned, her gaze landing on Su Wanwu.
Su Wanwu immediately pulled herself together and gave her a polite, slightly apologetic smile filled with respect. “It’s too early. We originally didn’t want to wake you.”
Sheng Pingzhou glanced at the time and said directly, “We’re leaving.”
Only then did Madam Sheng drop the idea of saying more, instead she walked them to the door.
She stepped in front of Su Wanwu, adjusting her collar slightly before leaning in and whispering, “You don’t have much to do once you leave the industry anyways, so spend more time with Pingzhou. A couple should stay together as much as possible… But don’t interfere with his work, understand?”
Su Wanwu inwardly thought, So I’m supposed to be with him all the time but also not disturb him? What am I, a mute doll?
Madam Sheng paused briefly before finally getting to the main point. “While you’re still young, you should have a child as soon as possible. It’s easier to recover. It’s for your own good.”
Su Wanwu: “I understand, mother. I’ll do my best.”
Madam Sheng replied, “You’re not the one that needs to try hard. Just cooperate.”
With that, she turned to Sheng Pingzhou. “You, on the other hand, need to put in the effort, understand? Work is important, but so is handling serious matters!”
Sheng Pingzhou was speechless, “…”
Su Wanwu stood to the side, struggling to hold back her laughter, but she didn’t dare let it show.
—
In the Car.
Without Yuan Ke around, Su Wanwu actually felt a bit uncomfortable.
Madam Sheng hadn’t let Yuan Ke come with them. She wasn’t sure if Sheng Pingzhou had said something to his mother last night, but Yuan Ke was noticeably more restrained this morning.
Just last night, she had been strutting around in front of Su Wanwu with arrogance, yet now, she was as timid as a quail.
However…
Thinking back to what Yuan Ke had said yesterday, Su Wanwu still felt a heavy weight pressing on her heart.
The man beside her didn’t seem to notice her turmoil. As soon as he got into the car, he picked up his tablet and began reviewing reports and data.
Su Wanwu knew that Sheng Pingzhou rarely paid much attention to things. But once he made a decision, he would approach it with an unprecedented level of focus and energy.
That was why, ever since their school days, there were very few things he couldn’t do well.
Even in their marriage, he had maintained a perfect balance.
It was as if there was a scale in his heart, precisely measuring the weight of everyone in his life, allowing him to arrange everything in the most suitable way.
Though they hadn’t been married for long, Su Wanwu understood that unless something drastic happened, things would always remain this way.
Neither passionate nor indifferent. Neither too close nor too distant.
“Where do you want to go?”
A deep voice pulled her back to reality. Su Wanwu turned her gaze to the window. “I’ll just go to your company.”
Sheng Pingzhou’s movements paused slightly. He set the tablet aside and turned to look at her. “To my company?”
Su Wanwu nodded and smiled. “Didn’t your mother just say that we should spend more time together? I have nothing to do anyway. You don’t mind me tagging along, do you?”
Sheng Pingzhou didn’t answer.
Her smile froze on her face.
Feeling uneasy, she wondered if she had said something wrong and quietly tried to gauge his reaction.
“…Pingzhou?”
Sheng Pingzhou withdrew his gaze and looked away from her.
A long moment passed before he finally responded. “As you wish.”
It seemed like he had agreed.
But instead of feeling relieved, Su Wanwu grew even more unsettled.
She had always been sensitive to other people’s emotions. Even the slightest change could make her feel restless, afraid that she had done something wrong.
She followed him all the way to the company.
The entire ride, she didn’t speak again, only occasionally glancing at his expression, trying to read his mood.
