Did Mrs. Sheng Got Divorced Today? - Chapter 5.2
As soon as Sheng Pingzhou arrived at the company, he was so busy that he barely had a moment to breathe.
Left alone in his spacious office, Su Wanwu found herself utterly bored.
Luckily, the script she had left here the day before came in handy—
She picked up where she had left off.
The web drama, named Flower Mourning, she wrapped up filming recently, was a historical drama. This time, Su Wanwu wanted to choose a script that was completely different.
Since it was going to be her final work before leaving the industry, even if no one else cared, she still wanted to give herself some closure.
Back when she first got the script for Flower Mourning, no one had high hopes for it. The story had too many plot holes, but she was drawn to its unique atmosphere.
All of her past projects had been low-budget web dramas. She had never asked Sheng Pingzhou to pull any strings for her and relied on the dividends from the small shares she owned. Sometimes, when she couldn’t secure enough investment, she even had to pay out of her own pocket.
—For example, she had personally covered the lead actress Tang Mian’s salary in Flower Mourning.
“Flower Mourning” told the tragic story of a woman whose entire life was consumed by her quest for revenge, a classic female protagonist revenge tale.
The storyline was cliché and predictable, the kind where you could tell exactly what would happen just by glancing at the synopsis. Yet, Su Wanwu had still poured her heart into it.
She did her best to bring out the actors’ emotions.
If there was anything in this world that was both rare and precious, yet couldn’t always be bought with money, it was genuine emotion.
When the content was lacking, the only thing left to do was maximize the atmosphere.
Good scripts always required careful selection. Her assistant had sent over more than ten, and Su Wanwu planned to go through all of them.
—
Before she knew it, noon had arrived.
Su Wanwu rubbed her temples, let out a yawn, and realized she was starving.
When they first arrived at the company, Sheng Pingzhou had asked Wei Hanyu to prepare breakfast for her. But he had been in meetings all morning. She wasn’t even sure if he had eaten.
Placing the half-read script aside, she decided to go find Wei Hanyu.
Just as she was about to step out, Wei Hanyu arrived right on time. “Ma’am, would you like to have lunch?”
Su Wanwu stood up. “Where’s Sheng Pingzhou? Isn’t he going to dine with me?”
“Chairman Sheng just finished his meeting and is currently conducting interviews for new graduates. If you find yourself bored, you’re free to arrange your own schedule.”
Su Wanwu said nothing.
She pressed her lips together before suddenly asking in a small voice, “Does Sheng Pingzhou really dislike being interrupted while he’s working?”
Wei Hanyu was momentarily taken aback.
After thinking for a moment, he replied, “It’s difficult to interrupt Chairman Sheng when he’s working. But you’re not an outsider, Ma’am. If you have something on your mind, I’d suggest speaking to him directly.”
Su Wanwu remained silent.
She sighed. “Forget it. Let’s just go eat.”
“Understood. The menu has already been arranged, Ma’am. You can order whenever you’d like.”
“No need for all that trouble. The cafeteria is fine.”
—
The elevator descended smoothly.
Following behind Wei Hanyu, Su Wanwu glanced through the frosted glass window, and suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure.
“Is Sheng Pingzhou holding interviews there?”
Hearing this, Wei Hanyu paused mid-step. “Yes, but Chairman Sheng is only observing. The final decisions are still made by the official interviewers.”
However, with Sheng Pingzhou present, the interviewers would undoubtedly put in their utmost effort to select the best and most suitable candidate for Shengshi.
“It’s part of Shengshi’s company culture. Recruitment is a top priority every year. Chairman Sheng places great importance on the overall competence of employees, so he personally takes time to oversee the process and ensure fairness.”
Su Wanwu asked, “Can I wait for him here? That way, we can go to lunch together when he’s done.”
Wei Hanyu glanced at the time. “That should be fine. The interviews should wrap up in about thirty minutes.”
He found her a spot, and Su Wanwu sat quietly in an inconspicuous corner outside the reception hall.
From her vantage point, she could only see Sheng Pingzhou.
He sat next to the interviewers in a plain chair, a completely ordinary spot, but his presence alone was commanding.
He rarely spoke, occasionally flipping through the documents in his hands. But whenever a candidate introduced themselves, he would pause and listen attentively.
That was rather respectful of him.
Propping her chin up, Su Wanwu’s gaze was bright with interest.
Most of the interviewees were fresh graduates, still radiating youthful enthusiasm. Sometimes, their remarks would even make the interviewers chuckle—
—But in a good-natured way.
Throughout the process, Sheng Pingzhou remained composed, showing little reaction.
But when the last candidate stepped forward, he lightly tapped his fingers against the table. It was unclear what he had heard, but all of a sudden, he let out a quiet chuckle.
Su Wanwu blinked, snapping out of her thoughts. She wanted to see who was interviewing now.
Through the glass panel, she couldn’t make out the details.
She could only tell that it was a young woman, petite, with a soft, gentle voice.
Holding her breath for a moment, she managed to catch a brief snippet of the candidate’s self-introduction—
“Hello, professors, my name is Shu Mi…”
As soon as she finished speaking, the girl immediately panicked and corrected herself,
“I-I I mean, hello, interviewers!”
Laughter rippled through the room.
And in that moment—
Su Wanwu saw Sheng Pingzhou smile.
