Did Mrs. Sheng Got Divorced Today? - Chapter 6.1
A strange feeling stirred in Su Wanwu’s heart.
It was such a minor thing, barely worth noticing, yet when she saw that fleeting curve at the corner of Sheng Pingzhou’s lips, she inexplicably felt… uneasy.
She shook her head.
What was she thinking? All this from a single expression?
Wei Hanyu noticed her change in demeanor and asked with concern, “Ma’am, are you feeling unwell?”
Su Wanwu rubbed her face lightly. “No, maybe I’m just a little hungry.”
Wei Hanyu chuckled at that. “It won’t be much longer. This is the last interviewee.”
She hummed in acknowledgment and turned her attention back to the young lady named Shu Mi.
Through the frosted glass, her features were obscured.
All Su Wanwu could rely on was her voice.
Switching to her other hand, she propped her cheek up and watched. After a moment, she suddenly asked, “Do you think she’ll pass the interview?”
Wei Hanyu, who was flipping through documents, hesitated briefly before responding, “That depends on the interview’s overall assessment.”
“…”
That was as good as saying nothing at all.
The image of Sheng Pingzhou’s brief smile surfaced in her mind, pulling her into a daze.
She only snapped out of it when Wei Hanyu’s voice called her back. “Ma’am, the interview is over.”
Hearing this, Su Wanwu looked up.
The once-silent conference room had now erupted with murmured conversations, the rustling of papers, and the scraping of chairs.
Instinctively, she stood up, watching as the interviewees trickled out, dispersing in different directions.
Sheng Pingzhou was easy to spot, tall, striking, effortlessly standing out among the crowd.
Suppressing whatever emotions had surfaced earlier, Su Wanwu adjusted her expression into a polite smile. “Pingzhou…”
Just as she stepped forward, a petite figure suddenly darted past him.
“Chairman Sheng! Please wait!”
Su Wanwu halted in her tracks, the warmth in her smile fading as she took in the girl who had emerged so abruptly.
All eyes turned towards the girl.
“Chairman Sheng…”
Shu Mi was breathless, as if mustering all her courage just to call out to the man before her. “I have a question!”
Sheng Pingzhou turned slightly, his gaze sweeping over her with cool indifference. “The interview is over.”
His meaning was clear, questions should have been asked during the process. Now, he was under no obligation to answer.
With that, he made no further acknowledgment of her and started walking toward Su Wanwu.
Shu Mi’s eyes turned slightly red. She clenched her fists, refusing to step aside. “I just want justice! I know I performed well. Why wasn’t I chosen?”
Her frame was small, but her voice carried surprising force.
Su Wanwu pressed her lips together, suppressing the emotions swirling inside her. Silently, she stepped back.
Maybe it was her imagination, but she felt like Shu Mi’s gaze toward Sheng Pingzhou was… particularly intense.
As if there were a thousand words left unsaid, lingering in the space between them.
Sheng Pingzhou’s expression remained unreadable, though a faint trace of impatience flickered across his brow. “You’re quite confident.”
Shu Mi’s fists tightened. “I know I might not have been the absolute best, but why was the candidate before me chosen over me when both their performance and initial test scores were lower?”
Realizing that all eyes were now on her, her voice softened. “It’s not fair…”
Whispers spread through the crowd.
Sheng Pingzhou said nothing, lifting a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose.
Wei Hanyu stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Shu Mi. “Miss, our company’s interview process follows strict evaluation criteria. If you have any objections, you’re welcome to direct them to me.”
Shu Mi refused to move. “That’s just a brush-off! Is it too much to ask for a direct answer? Chairman Sheng, you once said Shengshi values fairness in hiring. Now that I have doubts about the decision, am I not even entitled to an explanation?”
Her voice rang with conviction, though unshed tears shimmered in her eyes.
She was young, fresh out of university. It showed in her demeanor, in the ill-fitted suit she wore.
Yet there was something undeniably bright and alive about her.
Su Wanwu found herself admiring her. Not in the way one enjoys a spectacle, but in genuine appreciation for the courage it took to speak so boldly.
Sheng Pingzhou remained unmoved, his expression as composed as ever.
The only hint of frustration was the slight furrow of his brow, though even that was carefully restrained. “If she wants to know, then tell her.”
The lead interviewer, taking the cue, nodded. “Miss Shu, here’s the reason—you did meet the minimum qualifications for acceptance. However, based on a comprehensive review, we determined that your honesty fell short of Shengshi’s standards, which is why we selected another candidate.”
Shu Mi went pale. The words hit her like a slap, leaving her burning with embarrassment.
She had never expected to be rejected on the grounds of dishonesty…
The interviewer continued, “Shengshi’s hiring process is divided into two groups: Group A for fresh graduates entering through campus recruitment and Group B for past graduates applying through external channels. Upon review, we found that you claimed to be a fresh graduate when applying, which constitutes deliberate misrepresentation…”
“I wasn’t lying!”
Shu Mi cut him off, her face flushed. “I wasn’t trying to deceive you! I was—”
Her gaze flickered, darting toward Sheng Pingzhou for the briefest moment.
Su Wanwu had been silent all this time, simply observing.
But in that fleeting glance, she thought she saw something—a trace of sorrow in Shu Mi’s eyes.
…Was she imagining it?
