- Chapter 12 - A Gentleman’s Façade, A Rogue Beneath
Sui Yu looked at Jiang Siyue, completely speechless. “Don’t tell me… you went to her today because you knew it was Li Jiang’s susceptibility period?”
Jiang Siyue froze, momentarily unsure of how to respond.
Truth be told, that was her intention.
Just one look at her face, and Sui Yu already had the answer. Her expression turned serious. “Jiang Siyue! Do you have any idea how outrageous and pitiful that kind of behavior is? Especially in front of someone who doesn’t like you—acting like this just makes you look ridiculous.”
This was the third young lady of the Jiang family, for goodness’ sake. Did she really need to degrade herself to this extent? Just for some so-called love, she was willing to throw away her dignity and bottom line?
Tears suddenly welled up in Jiang Siyue’s eyes. She didn’t sob loudly, just let the tears fall silently as she murmured, “But what can I do if I just love her?”
Sui Yu fell silent. She reached for a tissue and gently wiped away her tears, speaking softly but with helpless firmness, “But loving someone doesn’t mean doing this. Anyone who truly cares about you wouldn’t just stand by and watch you debase yourself like this—unless they really don’t love you at all.”
Jiang Siyue choked up, knowing full well the truth behind those words. But even so, she couldn’t help herself.
“But… but what you should be worried about is the fact that she met with Shen Jueshu during her susceptibility period today,” Jiang Siyue sniffled.
Sui Yu let out a long sigh. “Do you know where I came from before seeing you? I was just in Shen Jueshu’s office. If anything had happened between them, would she still be calmly working at Suihe Group right now?”
Besides, her scent had been completely clean—there was no trace of anything unusual.
Sniffling again, Jiang Siyue asked, “But why would they even meet? Aren’t you afraid they might be plotting something against you?”
Sui Yu couldn’t help but laugh. What did she have left that was worth plotting over? At this point, hadn’t she already given Shen Jueshu everything she had?
If Shen Jueshu really wanted to get rid of her that badly, she could easily fabricate a cheating scandal and—based on the agreement Sui Yu had signed—kick her out with nothing.
“You don’t need to worry. Shen Jueshu won’t do anything to me,” she said calmly.
At least not for now. If she truly wanted to take action, she wouldn’t be helping with the lab setup.
After all, those research instruments cost a fortune. Would someone really spend that much just to play a long con?
Seeing how certain Sui Yu was, Jiang Siyue decided to trust her. Sui Yu was much more rational and intelligent than she was—she wouldn’t gamble with her own interests.
At that moment, Jiang Siyue completely forgot the small detail that Sui Yu had already handed over nearly all of her authority in the company.
Now that there was nothing to worry about on Sui Yu’s end, Jiang Siyue began to feel embarrassed about her own behavior. She gloomily reached for the wine and began drinking.
“Stop that!” Sui Yu snatched the bottle away and frowned. “You can’t keep doing this. Not only are you hurting yourself, but you’re also becoming the annoying fly that everyone else wants to swat away.”
“Siyue,” Sui Yu said with a deadpan expression, “when you do things like that in front of someone who doesn’t love you, all you’re doing is making yourself seem pathetic and annoying.”
In this situation, she couldn’t bring herself to scold Li Jiang. After all, Li Jiang simply didn’t like her. That wasn’t a crime. In fact, she’d already done more than enough—she made her stance clear and didn’t give Jiang Siyue false hope. In Sui Yu’s eyes, that was still far better than those people who claimed not to care while stringing others along.
Jiang Siyue hung her head. Of course, she understood that. But how could she just let go of someone she had loved for so many years?
Sui Yu sighed and gently patted her head. “How about this—don’t go see her for a while. And if you’re really afraid you’ll lose control, I’ll talk to Shen Jueshu and see if you can stay at my place for a bit.”
“Next time I catch you throwing yourself at her like some lovesick puppy, I swear I’ll break your legs!” she added, half-joking, half-threatening.
That finally earned a small laugh from Jiang Siyue. Thinking back on how Sui Yu used to be—even when she liked Shen Jueshu, she never humiliated herself like this. No matter how much she cared, she’d never stoop to being someone’s doormat.
“Okay,” Jiang Siyue nodded. No matter what, she couldn’t keep going on like this.
But fate is always strange like that. One moment you’re promising to stay away, and the next—you’re face-to-face again.
Just as Sui Yu and Jiang Siyue were preparing to leave the club, the door opened—and right there, standing directly in front of them, was a woman. Tall and long-legged, dressed in a sharp tailored suit that only emphasized her refined, professional elegance. A pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on her nose gave her an air of cool detachment.
Her entire presence screamed: gentleman on the outside, devil underneath.
Seeing Jiang Siyue’s expression freeze, Sui Yu instantly guessed who the woman was. Judging by her looks alone, it was no surprise Jiang Siyue had fallen so hard.
Sui Yu leaned over and whispered into her ear, “Don’t tell me… you’re into that whole suave-predator vibe?”
Snapping out of it at the sound of her voice, Jiang Siyue replied under her breath, “Don’t you think someone who looks so cold losing control in bed would be… you know, kind of overwhelming?”
Sui Yu: “…”
Well… she wasn’t wrong. That did sound kind of hot.
But the woman across from them only slightly furrowed her brow at their intimate whispering. She glanced once at Jiang Siyue with a trace of mockery in her smile, then walked past them without a word, aloof as ever.
Clearly, she had misunderstood something.
Jiang Siyue’s eyes turned red. Instinctively, she took a step forward, wanting to explain—but Sui Yu reached out and firmly held her back.
Through clenched teeth, she hissed, “What are you doing?! Did you already forget what you just promised me?”
Couldn’t she see the woman didn’t even want to look at her?
Jiang Siyue froze. Finally, she lowered her gaze and gave up struggling, allowing Sui Yu and the other woman to pull her out of the club.
Ahead of them, Li Jiang’s brow furrowed slightly. She hadn’t heard footsteps catching up behind her, which was unusual. Normally, at the first sign of her presence, Jiang Siyue would already be trailing after her, chattering endlessly.
She let out a soft scoff and shook her head. Whatever game Siyue was playing this time, it didn’t matter. Without that clingy presence around her, things finally felt quiet.
Back at the car, Sui Yu buckled Jiang Siyue into the passenger seat and frowned. “Didn’t you say she’s in her susceptibility period? Then what the hell is she doing at a club?”
Was Li Jiang not only visually a classy predator, but also internally kind of a scumbag too?
Jiang Siyue’s mood had clearly tanked. She shook her head and said quietly, “Even during her susceptibility period, she wouldn’t neglect her work.”
Even with inhibitors, there was still a constant restlessness underneath. Most people would just stay home during that time. But of course, Li Jiang was the exception.
Sui Yu suddenly found herself curious—just how effective were those inhibitors, really? When Li Jiang passed by earlier, she had caught a whiff of something—strong, almost smoky, like dark oolong tea—but Li Jiang herself had seemed perfectly composed.
Next time her own susceptibility period rolled around, she’d definitely have to try one.
If she was going to build a lab around inhibitor development, she had to test it personally—experience mattered.
