Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? (GL) - Chapter 22
Under Sui Yu’s cold and emotionless responses, the atmosphere between the two completely lacked even a hint of intimacy.
Gu Ying stared at her for a long while before suddenly saying, “So… you’ve started to accept all of this, haven’t you?”
Sui Yu looked up. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Her mood was terrible. Maybe it was the frustration of not knowing anything—every conversation felt like a riddle, as if everyone around her was deliberately speaking in half-truths and hidden meanings.
“You seem much calmer now,” Gu Ying said with a soft smile.
Sui Yu scoffed lightly and stood up, clearly not interested in continuing the conversation. As her hand rested on the doorknob, she paused slightly, then turned her head a little and said, “Don’t act like you know me. I really don’t like that.”
With that, she pushed the door open and walked out.
Inside, Gu Ying sat still for a moment, then slowly curved his lips into a smile. The look in his eyes deepened with intrigue.
Meanwhile, in her office, Shen Jueshu had been watching the entire exchange via surveillance. The moment she saw Gu Ying’s expression, her gaze darkened. She stared coldly at the screen, as if trying to memorize his face.
After leaving the reception room, Sui Yu went straight to find Qin Qing and said sharply, “Next time someone random shows up spouting nonsense, just throw them out immediately.”
“And another thing—tell the people around here to shut up about baseless rumors. I don’t want to hear a single word that might affect my relationship with Shen Jueshu.”
Qin Qing nodded briskly and went off to execute her orders without delay.
When Sui Yu returned to Shen Jueshu’s office, she found her lounging back in her chair with a coffee cup in hand, looking relaxed as she turned to glance at Sui Yu slowly.
Sui Yu: “…” Why does she suddenly look like a completely different person again?
“Not busy with work anymore?” Sui Yu asked casually as she poured herself a glass of water, seeing that Shen Jueshu no longer looked as absorbed in her tasks.
“Busy watching the show,” Shen Jueshu replied blandly.
Sui Yu: “…Was it entertaining?” she asked through slightly clenched teeth. This woman had acted completely indifferent earlier, and now she was admitting to watching like it was a soap opera?
“Average,” Shen Jueshu commented dryly.
“Hah. Didn’t expect our ever-so-busy President Shen to have time for gossip,” Sui Yu muttered, rolling her eyes. But the very next second, she suddenly felt a wave of cold sweep over her, as if she’d been dropped into a snowstorm.
“Hey! That’s going too far. You were gossiping, so why can’t I say it?” Sui Yu shivered from the sudden chill and hugged a throw pillow from the couch. At the same time, she quietly released her own pheromones, creating a barrier to block out the biting cold of Shen Jueshu’s Alpha pheromones.
So, she can dish it out but can’t take it, huh?
Shen Jueshu let out a cold snort. “I’m just waiting to see when someone gets kicked out with nothing.”
Her pheromones began to retract, but the lingering chill still hung in the air. In the sweltering heat of summer, it actually felt… refreshing.
Sui Yu, despite herself, started to feel a little envious. Shen Jueshu probably never suffered in the summer heat.
Under Sui Yu’s cold, dismissive remarks, there wasn’t even a trace of ambiguity left between them.
Gu Ying looked at her for a long while, then suddenly asked, “So, you’ve started accepting everything now, haven’t you?”
Sui Yu raised her eyes. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
She was in a bad mood. Maybe it was because she still didn’t know enough—every conversation felt like a cryptic riddle, like everyone was deliberately being vague.
“You seem a lot more at peace,” Gu Ying remarked with a smile.
Sui Yu scoffed and stood up, clearly unwilling to continue the conversation. As her hand touched the doorknob, she paused slightly, then turned her head and said, “Don’t talk like you know me. I don’t like that.”
Then she pushed the door open and walked out.
Inside, Gu Ying froze for a moment, then slowly smiled. His eyes filled with interest.
Meanwhile, back in her office, Shen Jueshu had seen the whole interaction through the surveillance feed. The moment she saw the expression on Gu Ying’s face, her gaze darkened. She stared intently at his image on the screen, as if trying to commit it to memory.
Sui Yu walked out of the reception room and found Qin Qing. Her tone was icy:
“Next time some random person shows up spouting nonsense, throw them out immediately.”
“And those ridiculous rumors—shut them down. I don’t want to hear a single word that could affect my relationship with Shen Jueshu.”
Qin Qing nodded and promptly went to carry out her orders.
When Sui Yu returned to Shen Jueshu’s office, she found her reclining in her chair with a cup of coffee in hand, looking relaxed as she slowly turned to glance at her.
Sui Yu: “…”
Why does she look like a completely different person again?
“Not busy anymore?” Sui Yu asked as she poured herself a glass of water. Seeing Shen Jueshu so leisurely, she couldn’t help but comment.
“Busy watching a show,” Shen Jueshu replied blandly.
Sui Yu: “…Was it a good one?” she asked, gritting her teeth. So earlier she had just been pretending to be detached—when in fact, she had been watching the whole thing like it was a soap opera?
“It was average,” Shen Jueshu remarked calmly.
“Hah. Never thought our ever-so-busy President Shen had time to enjoy a little gossip.” Sui Yu rolled her eyes—but the next second, a chill shot through her entire body, like she’d fallen into an icy lake.
“Hey, come on! You were eating popcorn from the sidelines. What, now I can’t say it out loud?” Sui Yu hugged a pillow from the couch and activated her pheromones to form a barrier, fending off the cold pressure of Shen Jueshu’s Alpha pheromones.
She dared to do it, but didn’t dare admit it—classic.
Shen Jueshu snorted. “I’m just waiting to see when someone gets thrown out with nothing.”
The oppressive pheromones quickly receded, leaving behind only a faint coolness—oddly refreshing in the heat of summer.
Sui Yu found herself, absurdly, a little envious. Shen Jueshu must never struggle with summer heat.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you,” Sui Yu said with a smile, “but I still have the rights to half of our assets.” Then, with a teasing edge, she added, “Why didn’t you come down to enjoy the drama in person? Watching it from behind a security feed couldn’t have been nearly as exciting.”
If she had walked in on Gu Ying, they would’ve made a perfect dramatic love triangle. It would’ve been peak melodrama.
Shen Jueshu didn’t respond directly, sipping her coffee in silence before coolly reminding, “Did you forget what your face looks like right now?”
Sui Yu’s expression froze. Her hand instantly flew to her face—her warm fingers pressing against her cheek, still tender from earlier. Her face immediately turned dark.
She’d walked through the whole company like this, and no one had said a word?!
Even Gu Ying, how did he manage to sit through all her cold, dominant behavior with a straight face? No wonder he asked if she was afraid of her wife.
Unbelievable.
Sui Yu cursed silently. And Shen Jueshu—she had come to see her first, and yet not one word of warning! Now that everything was over, only then did she get the heads-up?
Savage. Absolutely savage.
Only Shen Jueshu could strike this mercilessly—with words, not weapons.
“You know,” Sui Yu said in a drawn-out tone, “this is how you end up with no friends.”
Shen Jueshu’s expression remained unchanged. “Friends aren’t a necessity.”
“…Then what do you think is a necessity?” Sui Yu asked.
Shen Jueshu curled her lips slightly, a cool glint in her eyes. “I don’t think anything in this world is truly necessary.”
After all she had gone through in her last life, apart from the desire to torment Sui Yu, she’d found that there was little she couldn’t let go of.
Sui Yu fell silent. Then, she asked softly, “What about family?”
This time, Shen Jueshu’s expression finally shifted. Her gaze grew distant as her thoughts drifted to the last life—when she was imprisoned and her parents passed away one after another from illness. She hadn’t even been able to see them one last time, nor attend their funerals as their daughter.
She had been devastated. She’d even burned with fever for three days. Though Sui Yu had ordered that she be treated well enough to avoid brain damage, her physical condition had been left permanently weakened.
Later, she slowly came to terms with the grief. Life was, after all, just a process of gaining and losing. She had simply lost the people who loved her most during that phase of life.
“Don’t force it,” Shen Jueshu said quietly after a long silence.
After returning in this life, she had tried to persuade her parents to take better care of themselves. But her father’s health had already deteriorated to the point of depending on medication. Her mother, worn down with worry, had fallen ill as well. She didn’t know if anything she did could truly change their fate.
Hearing her response, Sui Yu also fell into silence. She recalled how the novel described Shen Jueshu’s parents, and how they had passed away a year after she was imprisoned.
In other words, they didn’t have much time left.
“…When we get a chance, let’s go visit them,” Sui Yu said softly. She had a growing suspicion that part of the reason Shen Jueshu’s parents had passed so early was because of the forced marriage and imprisonment—because they couldn’t see their daughter, and worry eventually consumed them.
Now that she was here, even if she couldn’t cure their illness, she could at least make sure they didn’t worry about Shen Jueshu anymore.
“You—” Shen Jueshu looked at her, as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Sui Yu avoided her gaze, her tone uneven. “There’s a tradition where a newlywed daughter visits her parents three times after marriage. We haven’t even done it once. Since we’re not divorcing just yet, we might as well put on a good show.”
Truth be told, Sui Yu was already mentally preparing for the disaster that might befall her when she stepped into the Shen household.
Yes, the original owner had helped the Shens through a financial crisis—but the methods used were underhanded. And the person she had forced into marriage was their beloved daughter.
This visit might not get her kicked out outright, but a cold reception seemed very likely.
Shen Jueshu hadn’t expected Sui Yu to be willing to go that far. She gave a faint smirk and said coolly, “Aren’t you afraid my dad will beat you out of the house with a broom?”
Sui Yu: “…”
Her smile tightened. Of course she was afraid! Who wouldn’t be?
But no matter how scared she was, she still had to go with Shen Jueshu. Because just showing up—standing by her—was already a kind of statement. It meant that Shen Jueshu mattered to her. If she didn’t, then she wouldn’t care how her parents felt at all.
She cleared her throat. “Well, you’re my wife now. So, your parents are my parents. Of course, I should be filial—if they hit me, I’ll take it with no complaints.”
Shen Jueshu merely gave a cold, mocking smile.
Empty words from an Alpha.
Even more seductive than sweet nothings.
