Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? (GL) - Chapter 23
One look at Shen Jueshu’s expression, and Sui Yu could already imagine just how hard she was being mocked in that woman’s head.
Sui Yu felt like she could explode from the frustration. But she couldn’t even start an argument about it—she’d only end up giving herself an ulcer from holding it all in.
What puzzled her the most, though, was why Shen Jueshu had still turned out this way in this lifetime. The truly cruel things the original owner had done hadn’t happened this time around, and yet here she was—still cold, detached, and jaded, as if nothing mattered anymore.
In this life, she had a harmonious family. All that had happened was a forced marriage… and yet now she acted eerily similar to her late-novel self: cold, obsessive, emotionally numb.
“Shen Jueshu… I’ve treated you decently, haven’t I?” Sui Yu asked after a brief hesitation. As far as she could tell, she’d done everything she could. She couldn’t undo the forced marriage, but she’d altered all the events that followed. Surely they weren’t heading toward the tragic ending from the novel?
Shen Jueshu looked up at her, the corner of her lips curling into a smile—but her eyes remained devoid of warmth. “Yes, you’ve been fine. But if you could do one more thing, it’d be even better.”
Sui Yu’s eyes lit up. “What is it?”
“Die,” Shen Jueshu said with a smile.
Sui Yu: “…”
Just how horribly had the original owner hurt her for her to still want her dead even now?!
“…I can. But on one condition.”
“Oh?” Shen Jueshu raised an eyebrow, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. “Do tell.”
“Ahem.” Sui Yu cleared her throat and looked away, her gaze wandering. “The condition is… sixty years from now.”
Shen Jueshu: “…”
“So your idea of dying… is dying of old age?” she asked flatly.
“Exactly! Dead is dead,” Sui Yu replied, a bit defiant despite how flimsy her logic sounded.
Shen Jueshu responded with a cold laugh.
That laugh alone told Sui Yu everything she needed to know about what was going through her mind. But seriously, there was no way she could just drop dead on command! She had just earned some autonomy over her projects. She hadn’t even had time to enjoy it yet—dying now would be a massive loss.
“A girl talking about death all the time—it’s unlucky,” Sui Yu muttered. “You’re a businesswoman now, right? Shouldn’t you be at least a little superstitious?”
Not waiting for a reply, she quickly laughed it off and dashed out of the office. On the way out, she grabbed a face mask from Qin Qing and left the building at once.
If she stayed any longer, she really feared Shen Jueshu might take her up on the death offer—right then and there.
—
After Sui Yu left, Qin Qing walked into Shen Jueshu’s office holding a thick stack of documents. She handed them over with a calm expression. “Based on what we’ve found, President Sui has no formal engagement with Mr. Gu.”
Shen Jueshu paused mid-page and looked up. “No formal engagement?” So… there was more to this than met the eye?
“Yes,” Qin Qing confirmed with a nod. “When President Sui was seven years old, Old Master Gu brought Mr. Gu to her birthday banquet. During the event, Mr. Gu said Sui Yu was pretty and that he wanted her to be his bride when they grew up. Old Master Gu tried to use that as a chance to secure an informal betrothal.”
Shen Jueshu’s eyes narrowed slightly. “And then?”
“Out of respect for Old Master Gu, the Sui family couldn’t flat-out reject him. So, President Sui’s mother simply replied that if the children felt the same way when they grew up, they could revisit the idea then.”
Understanding dawned in Shen Jueshu’s eyes. So, the so-called engagement was just the Gu family’s one-sided fantasy.
After Qin Qing left, she went through the documents in more detail. Only then did she fully realize how delusional the Gu family had been.
From beginning to end, Sui Yu had treated Gu Ying with cold disdain. Impatient at best, downright hostile at worst. There were even multiple instances where she tried to use her Alpha pheromones to force him away.
And yet, despite all that… Gu Ying had always remained calm and pleasant, almost disturbingly so—like someone who didn’t know how to give up.
Was he really that hopelessly in love?
It was almost as if—as if he was doting on and indulging Sui Yu’s every bad mood and little tantrum.
Shen Jueshu’s lips curled into a cold smile. She didn’t believe for a second that Gu Ying was hopelessly in love with Sui Yu. No, there had to be something else behind all this—something she didn’t know yet.
After leaving the company, Sui Yu rushed home. Oddly enough, the house was quiet—completely empty.
She paused for a moment in confusion. Wasn’t Jiang Siyue just meeting a manager? What could be taking so long?
But she quickly set the thought aside. After receiving the compound formula for the suppressant from Xia Ju and the others, she threw herself into work.
(Oh, right—Xia Ju was one of the two new lab members they’d hired that day. The other one was named Wang Yue.)
Once Sui Yu got into work mode, time always slipped away from her. By the time she looked up again, the sky outside was completely dark. It was already 8:00 PM.
Stretching her arms with a satisfying ache in her muscles, she immediately wanted nothing more than to soak in a hot bath and knock out for the night. But remembering Jiang Siyue’s interview, she decided to check on her.
She opened the door and stepped out. Just as she was about to knock on Jiang Siyue’s door, voices drifted up from downstairs.
She walked to the stairwell and looked down—there was Jiang Siyue, happily laying out a huge spread of food and inviting Shen Jueshu to join her.
Sui Yu: “…”
Did this woman forget I exist the moment she invited Shen Jueshu to eat?!
She headed downstairs and stood in front of Jiang Siyue, asking in a low voice, “Why did you buy so much food?”
Noticing her arrival, Shen Jueshu only gave her a fleeting glance—then looked away, expression calm as ever.
“Obviously because I’ve officially said goodbye to my couch potato days!” Jiang Siyue beamed, grabbing Sui Yu and plopping her down. Then she popped open a can of beer and handed it to her.
The table was covered in grilled skewers, fried snacks, and spicy crayfish. It was the most down-to-earth celebration imaginable.
Sui Yu looked down at the beer in her hand, hesitated for a second, then quietly took a sip. It tasted exactly like the one from her original world—equally terrible.
“Sis-in-law, come on, have a little! Auntie didn’t cook tonight, so I bet you haven’t eaten anything either, right? Eat a little so you don’t get hungry later.” Jiang Siyue was no longer the least bit afraid of Shen Jueshu’s cold stare. After all, with Sui Yu there to take the heat, she felt invincible.
Eventually, Jiang Siyue managed to drag Shen Jueshu to sit down too. But when she looked at the food in front of her, she seemed unsure where to start.
“I know you can’t handle spicy stuff, so I specifically ordered some non-spicy dishes for you!” Jiang Siyue chirped, putting a few items in front of Shen Jueshu. As for the garlicky and five-spice flavored crayfish, those she set in front of Sui Yu.
Then she declared, matter-of-factly: “A-Yu, peel some shrimp for sis-in-law!”
Sui Yu: “…”
Shen Jueshu: “…”
“Why should I peel shrimp for her?” Sui Yu asked, her voice low and slightly bitter. This woman just humiliated me earlier, and now I’m supposed to peel her shrimp? Over my dead body.
“She’s your wife! Peeling shrimp for your wife is basic decency!” Jiang Siyue said as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Sui Yu gave a dry laugh. “Well, if we’re going by that logic, I’m her wife too. How come you’re not telling her to peel shrimp for me?”
We’re both women. It’s not like I’ve been through extra training to be the one doing all the doting. Why should I be the one to yield?!
“You’re an Alpha!” Jiang Siyue looked at her like she was hopeless.
“So, what if I’m an Alpha? Doesn’t mean I’m not a woman!”
“Exactly because you’re an Alpha, you’re the one on top! And if you’re on top, shouldn’t you be doing something for the one below?”
“…Or wait—do you want to be a weak Alpha and have sis-in-law take the top spot?”
