Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? (GL) - Chapter 8
Sui Yu was nearly amused into laughter by Shen Jueshu. She just walked in and already started acting like this so blatantly?
Shrugging it off, Sui Yu pulled out her phone and started browsing to better understand this world. As for Shen Jueshu taking over the office? She didn’t care anymore. It wasn’t like she’d be using it—what a waste anyway.
She spent quite a while on her phone before Shen Jueshu finally pushed the door open. Seeing Sui Yu already inside didn’t seem to surprise her at all. She simply walked to her desk, sat down, opened a file, and began working without saying a word.
Sui Yu: “…”
I’m your wife—at least in name. And you’re going to pretend I’m not even here?
She set her phone down and walked over to Shen Jueshu’s desk, placing her hands on the surface and leaning down slightly, assuming a slightly imposing posture as she looked at her.
Just as she was about to speak, Shen Jueshu looked up.
“Shen Jueshu~ Look at me~” Sui Yu suddenly cooed in a soft, sugary voice, dragging her tone like a spoiled child begging for attention.
Shen Jueshu’s cold, detached expression flickered, visibly torn for a second. Her eyes showed a subtle, complicated emotion as she stared at Sui Yu’s deliberately exaggerated demeanor. She picked up her cup, took a sip of water—and only then did her expression relax a little.
Sui Yu: “…”
Wait… did she just gag?!
That realization hit her hard. Her pride felt instantly wounded.
She had always thought she looked decent enough. She was just being cute! Did it really warrant that kind of reaction?
She instinctively touched her face. It looked just like the one she had in her original world—pretty by any standard!
She turned away, now not in the mood to talk anymore. Wordlessly, she returned to the couch, curled up with her knees drawn to her chest like a sulking child.
Shen Jueshu frowned slightly at the whole scene. The way Sui Yu curled into a ball reminded her of a meme she’d seen online: “So sad, curled up into a sobbing dumpling.”
She wasn’t crying, but the image was close enough.
The crease between Shen Jueshu’s brows deepened.
No matter what, this really doesn’t feel like something the Sui Yu I know would do.
Unable to hold back her curiosity, she walked over. This new Sui Yu had changed so much, it was starting to unsettle her. Standing beside the curled-up figure, she asked,
“What are you here for exactly?”
Surely she hadn’t come all this way just to… act cute?
Both of them knew what kind of relationship they had. There was absolutely no need for this kind of behavior.
Hidden behind her knees, Sui Yu smirked slightly. There was no trace of actual sadness on her face—it seemed Shen Jueshu wasn’t entirely made of ice after all.
She looked up with a mock-hurt expression and turned her head away dramatically.
“After how you treated me earlier, I don’t even want to talk about it anymore!”
Shen Jueshu: “…”
Her expression turned unreadable once again. Finally, she stood and smoothed out the wrinkles in her clothes.
“If that’s the case, then there’s nothing more to say. Please leave if you’re done. I have work to do.”
Sui Yu, who had been mid-performance, was completely caught off guard by that. Her whole act collapsed on the spot. She straightened up instantly and tugged Shen Jueshu back down into her chair, trying to recover the situation.
“I do have something to say—really!”
Shen Jueshu’s expression changed as her eyes fell on Sui Yu’s hand holding her arm.
Following her gaze, Sui Yu quickly let go like she’d touched a hot stove.
“It was just a reflex! I swear, I didn’t mean anything improper by it!”
Shen Jueshu gave a short, dry laugh.
Cold sweat prickled at the back of Sui Yu’s neck. She stopped joking altogether, folded her hands neatly on her knees, and sat upright like a well-behaved student.
“I came to ask if you could help me set up a lab.”
She had thought about whether asking Shen Jueshu would make her suspicious. But honestly, her previous fears—that Shen Jueshu might dissect her or something—were probably unfounded.
She hadn’t done anything extreme yet. And as far as she could tell, Shen Jueshu was still a law-abiding citizen, not the type to commit crimes just because she was curious.
If anything, should something ever happen to her, Shen Jueshu would be the prime suspect—and as her legal spouse, the biggest beneficiary.
Just as she expected, Shen Jueshu’s expression immediately shifted upon hearing her request. She looked at Sui Yu like she was seeing a stranger.
“You suddenly want a lab? Why?”
Sui Yu cleared her throat.
“Well, it’s about the suppressants… There are still a lot of side effects, especially with long-term use. I thought I’d look into reducing them.”
“But you don’t even need suppressants,” Shen Jueshu said flatly.
Other than that one time after their wedding when Sui Yu suddenly went into heat and Shen Jueshu didn’t give her anything, she’d had plenty of Omegas around. There was no reason for her to be using suppressants at all.
Sui Yu immediately understood what she was implying. She resisted the urge to roll her eyes and instead replied diplomatically,
“Well, now that we’re married, I should take responsibility for the relationship—and stay loyal to you.”
After a brief pause, she added thoughtfully,
“While our marriage lasts, I’ll remain completely loyal.”
And once we’re divorced, she thought, I won’t owe you anything anymore.
Shen Jueshu let out a cold, mocking laugh. Not even slightly moved by Sui Yu’s words.
Loyalty? After last night—with that woman by her side, and Jiang Siyue too—she dared to talk about loyalty now? It had barely even passed, and here she was, making empty declarations. Shen Jueshu had long stopped trusting anything that came out of Sui Yu’s mouth.
“Alright then,” Shen Jueshu said, her smile frosty. “Since you’re so eager to prove your loyalty, it would be too cruel of me not to give you a chance.”
She pulled out her phone, typed out a quick message to her lawyer, and moments later, her phone buzzed with a response. She scanned the document and then forwarded it to Sui Yu.
With a thin smile, she said, “If you really mean what you say, then sign this. I’ll believe you.”
She didn’t think Sui Yu would dare.
As Sui Yu read through the document, her expression cracked. The terms were absolutely brutal: if she was ever unfaithful during the marriage, she’d leave with nothing. Not a cent. Complete forfeiture.
She shook her head with a sort of awed amusement. Shen Jueshu really doesn’t pull punches.
“But you didn’t say when we’re getting divorced,” Sui Yu pointed out. “What if I fall for someone during that time? What then?”
What if Shen Jueshu dragged the marriage out forever? Was she expected to stay loyal indefinitely? She could handle that if she never met anyone else—but who could predict that? What if her fated match appeared someday?
Shen Jueshu’s face remained blank. “One year.”
Hearing that, Sui Yu visibly relaxed. Without hesitation, she signed the agreement with her digital signature and sent it back.
When Shen Jueshu saw her name on the signature page, she looked genuinely surprised. She actually signed it? Did she even realize what she’d just agreed to?
But then again, this outcome worked in Shen Jueshu’s favor. She quietly forwarded the signed contract to her lawyer for record.
Sui Yu, meanwhile, leaned forward eagerly. “So… about the lab. Are you going to help me or not?”
Shen Jueshu looked at her with amused detachment. Now that Sui Yu had dropped the moody act and shown a spark of ambition, her emotions were more visible—more genuine.
That was what made Shen Jueshu hesitate.
This really didn’t feel like the same Sui Yu. If she was the same person, she would’ve had the resources and ability to set up a lab on her own long ago. But if she wasn’t Sui Yu… then how did she know so much about her, about them?
Suppressing her suspicions, Shen Jueshu said calmly, “Alright. Tell me what kind of lab you want. Whatever your requirements are, I’ll have it built.”
Sui Yu lit up, eyes sparkling. For the first time since arriving in this world, she felt pure, unfiltered joy. A lab of her own? She could lead projects? Set research directions? It was a dream come true.
She immediately rattled off a long list of specifications, speaking quickly and passionately. Her excitement was contagious.
Shen Jueshu listened quietly, but her doubts only deepened. The level of detail in Sui Yu’s requests—the terminology, the project scope—none of it was basic. No one outside this field could speak like this.
“Enough,” she cut in. “Go home and make a complete list. Give it to Qin Qing, and she’ll take care of the arrangements.”
Sui Yu paused, nodded, then realized that saying everything aloud was pointless anyway. No one could remember that much. She quickly gathered her things and cheerfully waved goodbye.
“I’ll get on it right away!”
After she left, the room felt eerily quiet without her enthusiastic chatter. Shen Jueshu sat still for a long while, her gaze distant.
If the person inside that body really wasn’t Sui Yu… then who was she? And how was Shen Jueshu supposed to deal with her?
And if she wasn’t Sui Yu… then all the resentment she had built up over the years—it would be meaningless. A cruel joke.
She suddenly raised her hand to her forehead, massaging her temples.
Even if her mind was starting to doubt, her emotions hadn’t caught up. One look at that face, and the anger she’d buried deep down surged back to the surface.
These feelings… they wouldn’t fade easily.
Meanwhile, Sui Yu was practically glowing. She felt lighter, more hopeful. Back home, she threw herself into her work, organizing and compiling her lab requirements. Once everything was ready, she sent it off to Qin Qing.
Her next challenge: building a team.
She hadn’t asked Shen Jueshu to fund a spot in an existing lab. That kind of setup came with pre-established dynamics—and as someone with no public achievements in this world, she would likely be sidelined. Projects could stall, or worse, get sabotaged.
She wanted her own team. Her own space.
Suppressant side effects had been a research focus for years, but progress was slow. Based on what she had learned, the few institutions currently leading suppressant development were engaged in intense competition. Internal politics, infighting, and cliques were common. There had to be talented researchers out there who’d slipped through the cracks.
She asked Qin Qing to compile a list of former employees from those institutions—people who had left or been let go—and include their backgrounds and research experience.
With that taken care of, Sui Yu finally felt a real sense of accomplishment.
All she wanted was the chance to pursue the work she loved.
What she didn’t know was that her decision to hand full control of the company over to Shen Jueshu had already become a hot topic.
Some speculated that she had been blackmailed.
Others believed she’d fallen under the spell of a beautiful Omega.
Still others suspected she had become a complete slave to love—recklessly handing over everything she owned.
Even though the world had made great strides toward AO equality, it was still rare to see a dominant Alpha give up control to an Omega.
In the eyes of many, Sui Yu was now nothing more than a “kept Alpha”.
And for someone born into the role of protector and provider, that label came with scorn.
Sui Yu would soon discover that the judgment she once faced for being wild and careless paled in comparison to the contempt directed at an Alpha who “lived off” an Omega.
Old mindsets still ran deep.
But Sui Yu had no idea. She was focused, motivated… and about to be blindsided.
Because that evening, Shen Jueshu returned home and opened a hidden door.
Behind it, a staircase descended into darkness.
A basement.
