Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 1.3
It didn’t take long for the dissatisfaction of my classmates to be directed towards me as an outlet for the stress accumulated from the harsh training.
The harsh words and actions at the time of the appraisal may have fueled the rebellious spirit of my classmates.
“Oh, look, it’s the teleportation magic user. How far can you teleport now?”
“Hey, when will you be able to teleport us back to Japan?”
“You’re not going to say you can still only move 1 millimeter, are you?”
Whether in the training grounds or the dormitory, every day felt like walking on needles.
Sleep was the only time of respite, but due to stress, I couldn’t sleep, and I lost my appetite.
Thirty days after training began, we transitioned to training in the forest, where we were told we would actually fight monsters.
At first, we were told it would be goblins, and including me, my classmates breathed a sigh of relief. But after about fifteen days, we were shown live specimens, and everyone trembled in fear.
“These are goblins. Don’t carelessly provoke them…”
“Ahh! Gyyyi… gyagya!”
Treating goblins as mere pests only happened in games and anime. In reality, they were dangerous wild animals, showing their fangs in cages and reaching out with sharp claws to grab hold.
Even in Japan, occasionally, wild monkeys would cause trouble in the city, but goblins were more than two sizes larger and obviously more violent.
If I could use fireballs, water spears, or wind blades, I might stand a chance in battle. But with only the ability to move objects by a measly 1 millimeter, I couldn’t envision a future where I could fight goblins and survive.
Seeing the real goblins shattered my spirit.
“What? Say that again.”
“Please, I’ll do anything. Please assign me to non-combat tasks.”
I pleaded with the exclusive instructor, but as expected, I was punched, kicked, and berated.
“Don’t mess around! If you have time to talk nonsense, then keep training!”
“It’s impossible. No matter how much I practice, the distance doesn’t increase at all. If I’m forced to fight goblins in this condition, I’ll die.”
“Then die! Show me you can fight and die!”
“Please, I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die!”
The disappointment of the instructor must have been immense, given the expectations placed on me. But my life was at stake here. Going into battle without being able to demonstrate supernatural abilities like my classmates was like modern soldiers armed with automatic rifles facing samurai in the Sengoku period.
For two whole days, I continued to plead shamelessly on the ground, and eventually, I was assigned to work below the castle.
In exchange for my life not being in danger, I was burdened with all sorts of dirty work like cleaning the latrines, collecting rubbish, and taking care of pigs and chickens.
Three days after being assigned to this work, yesterday, I asked to be removed from combat training. This became known to my classmates, who confronted me and berated me.
“You only care about yourself!”
“It’s not just you whose abilities aren’t improving!”
“Don’t run away, you coward!”
And tonight, I was kicked out of the dormitory.
I understand everyone’s anger, but if that’s the case, they could also plead to be removed from combat roles.
“If your abilities aren’t improving, it’s not the time to be putting on airs. We can’t return to Japan, but it’s not the end if we die…”
I wandered the castle grounds without aim, eventually reaching a small storage shed where cleaning tools were kept.
There wasn’t a decent place to lie down, but at least it seemed like I could shelter from the rain and wind here.
Since closing the door would make it pitch black inside, I left it slightly ajar.
Thanks to the large moon, which was more than twice the size of Earth’s, it was bright enough outside at night to see the ground.
I moved the tools aside to make some space, then leaned against the wall and sat down.
“Haah… I wonder if I’ll be able to wake up without oversleeping tomorrow…”
The menial tasks started before dawn.
Since combat training also started at the same time, I managed not to be late, but if I fell asleep alone here, I doubted I could wake up on time.
“I’ll probably get scolded if I’m late… I don’t want that… I want to go back to Japan…”
As I hugged my knees with a heavy heart, the fatigue from the day overwhelmed me, and I fell asleep easily.
