Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 11.1
The morning after the holiday, as usual, I stopped by the task room for odd jobs and was beckoned by the foreman.
“Yuto, change into your work clothes and go to the ornamentation department. Ekkels-sama is calling for you.”
“Understood. Is it another cleaning job for a portrait or something?”
“I don’t know, but whatever it is, be cautious and work carefully, don’t get carried away.”
“I got it.”
The foreman seemed more concerned about not being reprimanded because of my potential mistakes than about my actual failure.
After changing into clean work clothes back in my dormitory room and bringing my special skills certification, I headed to the ornamentation department’s workshop.
The ornamentation department started work later than the odd jobs department. I showed my special skills certification to the security and was allowed into the workshop. Since there wasn’t anything to do yet, I sat at a table meant for tea and idly looked around the workshop.
Previously, I had been working on cleaning portraits, and in the area where I used to work, armor parts were neatly arranged, presumably being worked on by Mr. Klassen. On the work desk of Halmire, who was in charge of clothing repairs, there were lavish garments for male royalty, embellished with gold and silver threads.
These were not everyday clothes but probably meant for ceremonies or similar occasions. There were also people responsible for sword restoration and jewelry repairs, making it feel like being in the backstage of a museum, utterly fascinating.
Since I had been going to the workshop for more than a month for portrait cleaning, I was familiar with everyone there. While exchanging greetings with those who had come in for work, Ekkels showed up.
“Good morning, Ekkels-sama.”
“Hey, Yuto. Good morning. Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“No problem. I just got here a moment ago, and waiting in this room isn’t a bother.”
“I see. Well then, let’s get going.”
“Huh, aren’t we going to work here?”
“Oh, I haven’t told you about it yet. Well, let’s talk while walking.”
“Okay.”
While we were talking, Ekkels walked along the corridor deeper into the castle. Since I started working at night, he showed me a simple map of the castle.
We were heading towards the area where the western royals resided.
“Yuto, do you know about the Curse of the Azure Darkness?”
“Yes, although I’m not familiar with the details, my colleagues in the odd jobs department told me about it.”
“I want you to try to extract the bruise caused by the Curse of the Azure Darkness from the body.”
I hadn’t expected such a request so soon after yesterday, but perhaps it was triggered by the Second Prince’s misconduct.
Ekkels led me to a room just before the area where the royals lived.
It smelled like herbal medicine, so it seemed like some kind of infirmary.
“Good morning, Ludienne.”
“Good morning, Aik. Is this the boy you were talking about?”
“Yes, this is Yuto. Nice to meet you.”
Ludienne-san was a plump woman in her forties. When I greeted her as I had been taught by the foreman, she showed a slightly surprised expression, but then her mouth relaxed. Judging from how Ekkels referred to Aik, the two seemed to be close.
“I heard they were bringing someone from the odd jobs department, so I was worried about what kind of wild animal they were bringing… Well, this seems fine.”
“It’s too early to be surprised, Ludienne. He might just be our savior, after all.”
“I hope so.”
I knew I was being judged, and to be honest, I was feeling a bit scared. But even Umino-san had moved closer to the royals. I couldn’t just run away.
