Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 13.3
I wasn’t surprised about this.
If one faction holds a ministerial position, it’s only natural for the other faction to have another minister to balance things out.
“Serving as the Minister of Legal Affairs is Duke Benedetto Girontini. The Girontini family is the king’s maternal family, and the head of the family, Benedetto-sama, is the king’s younger brother.”
“Um… which faction does Duke Girontini belong to?”
I hadn’t planned to ask questions about factional disputes, but I couldn’t help but wonder.
After a slight pause, Araseli-san answered.
“He remains neutral. Benedetto-sama has not declared support for either side.”
“I heard there’s a law in the kingdom that the throne is inherited according to the order of succession…”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“In that case, as the Minister of Legal Affairs, there’s no need to declare… is that right?”
“I cannot say for sure.”
“Yeah…”
Logically, I think the Minister of Legal Affairs would prefer the first prince to inherit the throne according to the law, but if he were to suddenly support the second prince, it would cause significant damage to the first prince’s faction.
“Are there any other rules regarding the succession to the throne?”
“Yes. Since it determines the highest authority in the country, there are some detailed rules, but the main ones are the provisions that follow the order of succession as you mentioned earlier, and that the succession candidate must be decided before they reach the age of twenty-five.”
“How old is the first prince, Alberic?”
“He turned twenty this year.”
“So, the next king will be decided within the next five years?”
“No, that’s not the case.”
“Huh, it’s different?”
“Yes, if Alberic-sama is not recognized for succession before he turns twenty-five, he will lose his right to the throne. But in addition to the second prince, Belnort-sama, the second princess, Bridget-sama, also has the right to succession.”
“So, there’s a possibility for a queen as well?”
“Yes.”
The right to inherit the throne prioritizes the prince, but if there’s an exceptional princess, she might be chosen instead. In the case of the current king, it seems that the powers of the three ducal families are balanced according to considerations such as the relationships of their respective families.
I had heard about this from Tariq before, but now the vague information has become clear.
“Huh? Does that mean the first princess also has the right to inherit the throne?”
“Yes, the order of succession is Alberic-sama, Belnort-sama, Aurelia-sama, and Bridget-sama.”
“How old is the first princess?”
“She’s twenty-one. Belnort-sama is nineteen, and Bridget-sama is seventeen.”
“So, there might be significant developments in three years?”
“I cannot say for sure…”
After answering in the usual calm tone, Araseli-san lowered her gaze as if hesitating before continuing.
“However, if there were significant developments, Yuto-sama, you have already caused them.”
“Huh, me…?”
“So far, neither faction has taken direct action. It seems that Yuto-sama’s presence is being viewed as a potential danger…”
According to Araseli-san, there are two reasons I was attacked.
One is because I might be able to remove the first prince’s bruise.
The other is because I originally didn’t belong to any noble family.
If I had been the son of a noble family, it wouldn’t have been so easy to attack me because it would have caused a big stir.
“So, rather than understanding the country’s situation, I should focus on protecting myself… is that it?”
To my words, Araseli-san nodded firmly.
