Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 14.2
“Me? Seriously?”
“Why are you so surprised? Alberic, with his wisdom, kindness towards his people, and strength against external threats, has no obstacles to his accession except for the curse of the Azure Darkness. If you can lift that, it wouldn’t be surprising if you were granted a barony or even a viscountcy.”
“No, becoming a noble… that’s too much for me.”
Honestly, being a noble sounds like nothing but trouble. I’d rather have enough money to live without worries for the rest of my life.
“Um… as a reward, could you release those who were summoned with me?”
“They’ll do their best, but getting a guarantee is difficult.”
My classmates are likely considered the property of the First Queen or the First Princess.
Even if Alberic becomes king, it’s unlikely they could guarantee their release right now.
“Well, everything depends on finishing the treatment… so it’s still a long way off.”
“Right…”
“And if the treatment for Alberic succeeds, nobles will flood you with requests.”
“Is it really that undesirable to have a bruise on their face?”
“Yes. While commoners can cover it with cloth, it’s different for royalty or nobles who can’t show their faces.”
That’s why the First Prince needs my abilities to secure the throne.
“And many noblewomen get divorced because of the Azure Darkness curse.”
“Divorced? You don’t mean…”
“Men can tolerate bruises on non-visible areas, but for women, it’s different.”
It seems that, like with Rosetta, having visible bruises on the body affects their intimate life and causes marital discord.
“Parents who think of their children’s future would pay any amount to remove bruises, even those among the Second Prince’s faction.”
“So if I continue to treat them without discrimination…”
“The factional boundaries might loosen, and your companions might be released… possibly.”
Ultimately, what I can do is continue my current work. As a unique practitioner, I can expect rewards and possibly live in this world even after the succession struggle ends.
To acquire the necessary knowledge, I continue private lessons with Araseli, gaining significant information about the Yurefelt Kingdom.
The kingdom spans approximately 600 kilometers east to west and 400 kilometers north to south. The south is bordered by the sea, the north by deep forests and snow-capped mountains, with one country to the east and two to the west.
The climate is mild, with snow accumulating near the northern forests, though snowfall is rare in the capital, Escalade.
It’s currently late spring, a pleasant season.
The western countries, Mylders and Mastaphor, maintain good relations, but relations with the eastern country, Fulmerinta, are strained.
There have been skirmishes over land between two rivers for over a decade.
There’s also tension over mines in the northeastern mountains.
“So, my companions might be sent to fight against Fulmerinta?”
“That’s possible, but they might also be sent to develop the northern mines.”
“The high mountains in the north have mineral resources?”
“They’re rich in minerals, but strong monsters inhabit the area, leaving many places untouched.”
“To mine these resources, you need the strength to defeat the monsters.”
“Exactly. Soldiers protect mining engineers, secure transportation routes, and guard wagons from monsters. Many soldiers are stationed in the northern forests.”
Considering the danger, it might be the same wherever they are sent, but fighting monsters and fighting humans have different psychological impacts.
I hope many classmates, not just Kazumi Umino, can move to safer roles.
