Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 15.2
“Well… there’s nothing specific I want to buy, but I’d like to check out the market.”
“Understood. This way, please…”
Since I don’t know the details of the security arrangements, it’s best to leave our destination to Araseli.
The streets are crowded with people, but there’s no need to worry about bumping into anyone.
Compared to the hustle and bustle of Japan, people here walk at a more leisurely pace.
Even when Tariq and I walked around before, I noticed that people weren’t in a rush.
Whether it’s negotiating business deals or the time it takes for food to be served in restaurants, everything is about twice as leisurely as in Japan.
For the people of this country, this is normal, but for someone raised in Japan, it feels like time moves more slowly.
Araseli is very knowledgeable about the goods sold at the market, explaining the origins and quality of items like woolen fabrics, spices, and dried foods.
At the market, we bought nuts similar to pistachios and dried apricots.
Both were rich in flavor and far tastier than anything I’d had in Japan.
We also stopped by a bookstore we passed along the way.
Printed books seem to be common here, but they aren’t mass-produced using machines, so they are more expensive compared to food items.
When I asked if there were any books about the customs of this world, Araseli picked out two for me.
“This one is a legend about the hero Lauzar, detailing his battles with evil dragons and demons.”
“Is Lauzar a real person?”
“Who knows… It’s said that he existed, but no precise records remain.”
“And the other one?”
“This is a travelogue about journeys to the western countries of Muilders and Mastapho. It’s a new book published this year, so it’s good for understanding the lives of common people, including those in the Kingdom of Yurefelt.”
“Got it. I’ll buy both.”
The language knowledge or function I received during the summoning is excellent, allowing me to understand both spoken words and written text.
However, for unfamiliar proper nouns, I can only recognize the sounds without knowing the meanings.
I’ll probably need Araseli’s explanations multiple times before I finish reading these books.
After purchasing the books, we decided to have lunch since we were getting hungry.
When I requested something as common as possible, we ended up at a noodle stall.
In a corner of a park, various food stalls gathered, creating an outdoor food court with tables set up for dining.
One of the stalls was Araseli’s recommendation.
The menu offered only one dish: a white soup made from chicken broth, noodles that were a cross between ramen and udon, topped with steamed chicken and plenty of green onions.
It felt like chicken paitan soba from Japan, but with unique spices that gave it an unusual flavor.
Observing the people around us, I noticed they were slurping their noodles normally, which reassured me.
Personally, I dislike eating noodles slowly.
I finished the entire bowl of soup in one go, holding the bowl close, and noticed Araseli giggling from the seat across from me.
Seeing such a natural smile from Araseli for the first time made me feel closer to her.
Though the sky was cloudy during this break in the rainy season, the area around the stalls was surrounded by greenery, making it refreshing.
While eating baked sweets and drinking tea bought from another stall, I listened to Araseli talk about the books we bought and the neighboring western country.
I wondered if this was what a date felt like, having never experienced one before, when I heard an unpleasant voice.
“Well, aren’t you living the high life.”
The voice, laced with thorns, spoke in Japanese. Turning around, I saw Kawamoto and Sawatari and instinctively stood up.
Both of them were holding swords in their left hands.
