Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 20.2
“I doubt that. You defeated Dorotheus, after all. No one would dare send assassins against someone like that.”
“Indeed. Even if the second prince’s faction is blind to reality, they wouldn’t want to provoke further by losing Dorotheus.”
From their words, it seemed Dorotheus was more feared than I had imagined.
“Dorotheus was really that strong?”
“Ah, so you didn’t know when you defeated him.”
“It was said that a hundred soldiers wouldn’t be enough to take him down. While noblewomen and castle workers often gossip about handsome young knights, Dorotheus was infamous for his terrifying strength.”
His enormous build, fearsome appearance, and exceptional strength led to rumors that he had ogre blood.
“Although you defeated him, officially, it was someone resembling Dorotheus.”
“This is to placate the second prince’s faction, isn’t it?”
“Exactly. Rumors will spread, and if someone as conspicuous as Dorotheus disappears, the truth will eventually come out.”
“Yes, even the second prince’s faction wouldn’t have expected to lose Dorotheus.”
Ekkels and Ludienne couldn’t hide their smiles while discussing this. On reflection, Dorotheus was the man who had mercilessly sliced Yamagishi in two.
I hadn’t intended it at all, but as a result, I ended up avenging Yamagishi.
Thinking that way, the guilt of killing Dorotheus began to fade.
“You seem quite exhausted from the midnight attack, but please hang in there a bit longer.”
“It’s alright. We’ll support you as much as we can.”
“Yes, thank you.”
Accompanied by Ekkels and Ludienne, we headed from the infirmary to the depths of the royal castle. Along the way, there was a moat, and at the foot of the bridge, four soldiers in metal armor stood guard.
Beyond this moat was the area where the royal family lived. Although I had improved my cleaning skills and started cleaning the visible parts of the castle, the areas where the royal family and nobility passed, I had never been inside this moat.
Ekkels and Ludienne, being recognized faces, passed through without a check, but I had to present my special skill certificate and undergo a body check. Only those who had undergone a thorough background check were allowed to work in this area, making it generally off-limits to someone like me from another world.
I was allowed entry today because Ludienne had submitted an application. As we crossed the bridge, I could hear words like “Dorotheus” and “Ogre Slayer” from behind.
It seemed like these bored people were adding embellishments to make the story more entertaining. I was worried that if these rumors reached the royal family’s ears, I might be forced back into a combat role.
The building where the royal family lived was in a different league compared to the other buildings in the castle. The difference was like that between a chain ramen shop and a high-end restaurant.
We were escorted to a reception room, where Ekkels and Ludienne sat on luxurious sofas while I stood beside them, waiting for the royal family. I had only just learned that both of them held noble titles.
It seemed that nobles could sit while commoners had to stand and wait. In the corner of the reception room, Rosetta stood in a robe, and we exchanged nods.
