Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 24.2
Even in such situations, having knowledge of martial arts is necessary to respond as best as possible.
“There is a big difference between someone who has a little knowledge of martial arts and someone who has none at all. Knowing and not knowing makes a huge difference.”
“I understand what you’re saying, but the gap is too wide…”
“That’s why you need to know. If you give up before starting, you won’t accomplish anything.”
“Ha…”
As the first step to learning martial arts, I received a dulled saber from Mauroni.
I had dabbled in kendo during middle school P.E., but even a dulled saber made of real sword material felt heavy.
“We’ll start with drawing and sheathing the sword, then move on to actual sword swings. Once you experience the movement of swinging a sword, you’ll naturally understand how to handle it.”
“Yes, understood.”
I stood about five meters away from Mauroni, facing him, and imitated his movements as I swung the saber.
At first, I swung slowly, then gradually increased the speed until my right arm started to tremble.
“What’s wrong? You’ve only just started. You can’t protect yourself or anyone important like that.”
“Yes!”
Drawing the saber from my left waist, I slashed diagonally downward, then upward in a reverse diagonal.
I further swung the saber directly overhead and brought it straight down, thrusting after pulling my arm back, followed by horizontal slashes to the left and right before sheathing the saber.
I repeated these movements over and over until I could complete them smoothly without stopping.
“Listen, Yuto. The smoothness of your sword swings shows your level of training. When each movement connects smoothly without hesitation, the sword gains speed and power. If your movements are clumsy, the sword loses speed and creates openings. Learn how to make the sword tip move fast with your body.”
“Yes!”
Until a light lunch break, I swung the saber without rest. I’m sure I’ll have muscle pain tomorrow.
During lunch, I demonstrated severing transfer magic using a rock walnut for Mauroni. In the afternoon, I trained this severing transfer magic.
In the courtyard, there were two screens and a fist-sized stone prepared.
“Yuto, stand between the screens and use transfer magic to sever the stone as it passes out of your sight.”
“Understood.”
At first, the stone passed between the screens in a high arc.
Even so, since it appeared suddenly from outside my sight, I could only sever it about once every three tries.
“It’s difficult.”
“Hmph, it’s just a matter of getting used to it.”
“It might be easy for someone as trained as you, Lord Mauroni, but it’s quite challenging for me.”
“Don’t worry, there are plenty of stones, and even if they split into two, they can still be used.”
Indeed, even when split into two, the stones could be reused as smaller targets. As they got smaller, the training difficulty increased.
To hit a target that suddenly appeared with magic required a different kind of concentration than removing bruises.
By the time evening came, I was as exhausted as if I had spent a whole day removing bruises.
When I returned to the dormitory after training, Alberic handed me the dulled saber to take back with me.
“Continue practicing the movements I taught you even on non-training days.”
“But I also have my regular duties…”
“Hmph, if you have time to shake your hips, you have time to swing a sword.”
