Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 28.3
※Still in Kawamoto’s perspective.
Umino came up with a way to use healing magic for beauty, sneaking into the castle to gather information.
Unlike useless Kirikaze, we seem to be researching various things, such as why we were summoned and if there really is no way to return.
According to Umino, we were summoned for the succession struggle, to gain strength for achievements.
Summoned individuals seem to often have stronger magic than ordinary people, and they’re trying to use us as special forces to gain achievements.
However, currently, achievements aren’t increasing as desired, and on the contrary, the traitor Kirikaze seems to be achieving more.
I don’t know the details, but apparently Kirikaze is using his abilities to remove the scar on the First Prince’s face.
If that scar completely disappears, our side will be at a disadvantage.
So, before the scar is erased, we’re supposed to be sent as surplus forces to the conflict area to break the deadlock and achieve results, that seems to be the purpose of the expedition.
In other words, we’re going to be forced to wage war against humans.
Classmates who heard the story naturally felt depressed.
There would be no guilt fighting monsters, but could they really kill humans?
Raised in peaceful Japan, they’ve trained in situations where they might encounter classmates’ deaths, but if asked if they could kill people, everyone would pause to think.
But I saw it as a chance.
I don’t know who from which country, but I’ll have them die for my stress relief.
You might say there’s no reason for you to be killed, but that’s how unfair the world is.
Because it’s unfair for only me to taste injustice, I’ll make sure to give you plenty of it.
Arriving at the border shaken by the uncomfortable carriage, we were greeted by a strange sight.
Originally, being island-raised Japanese, the very existence of a border is rare to us.
Our country and the neighboring country to the east are in dispute over ownership of the sandbank between two rivers.
But even if it’s called a sandbank, it takes about an hour to walk from end to end.
The people in this world walk slowly, but it’s still more than three kilometers.
As for the length, it seems to be about ten times that.
In the central area of the sandbar, a road runs through it, with the downstream side belonging to our territory and the upstream side to theirs.
Crossing a bridge from our side onto the sandbar, on the upstream side of the road, beyond a grassy area about five meters wide, tall walls run along the road, where our soldiers patrol.
Conversely, there are no walls on the downstream side, just expansive rice fields as far as the eye can see.
In this sandbar, utilizing abundant water, rice cultivation occurs even on the upstream side of the road.
Further along the road, a checkpoint comes into view.
Visible is our country’s checkpoint, and beyond that, there seems to be another checkpoint on their side.
At our checkpoint, we were made to dismount from the carriage and ascend onto the wall.
The height is about four meters, with a corridor about five meters wide along the top of the wall.
Looking down from the stone railing, the scenery is of rice paddies, similar to the downstream view.
