Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 30.3
※ Kawamoto’s perspective
Just hearing the name Kirikaze made dark clouds rise in my mind, which had been clear and bright until now.
“Okay, I get it… but maybe we can get out of this killing somehow.”
“Huh? What can a guy who can only do physical enhancement do? What am I supposed to do other than burn things?”
“So, you’re telling me to die too? I don’t want to die in a place like this!”
“That’s why you have to kill! Kill them before they kill you!”
“Impossible! You can just burn them with magic, but I have to kill them with a sword! When the blade gets stuck in the fat, I can’t kill them in one hit, and I have to do it over and over again… Ahhh…”
Indeed, in my case, it was just a matter of casting a spell and burning them, but for Oshima, who had to kill directly with a weapon, the psychological burden must have been different. That’s why he couldn’t think of the enemy as humans, but rather as insects to be crushed. However, it seemed impossible for Oshima.
I thought he would die soon anyway, but treating a classmate like the farmers would be problematic later.
“I’m sorry. But Oshima, you have to come to terms with this to survive. In the end, the only way we can protect our comrades is by killing the enemy.”
“I know, I know, but… ugh…”
Perhaps recalling those he had slain, Oshima vomited the food he had just eaten.
After that, it seemed the Yurefelt soldiers successfully secured the area, and we were given a break until the next morning.
We found a cool, shaded spot and lay down in silence. Those who fell asleep from exhaustion were lucky; most of them were too agitated to sleep.
I, too, felt a surge of magical energy deep within me, struggling to suppress the overwhelming desire to burn something. Watching my classmates, tossing and turning unable to sleep, I couldn’t help but think how satisfying it would be to burn them all.
“What’s that…?”
Oshima broke the damp and heavy silence.
Lying on his back with his eyes wide open, Oshima suddenly sat up and pointed at the sky.
“A bird… no, a dinosaur…?”
“Huh, where?”
The others sat up and looked at the sky, but only Oshima, who had probably enhanced his vision, could see it clearly. The rest of us, including me, had no idea what he was talking about.
“It’s coming closer…”
“What? Where? Oh, is that it?”
The dark speck that Ando pointed at soon turned into several flapping shapes, rapidly approaching, increasing in number to five or six.
Eventually, I could vaguely see them too. They looked like pterosaurs, long extinct in our world.
“WYVERNS! Take cover!”
Hearing a Yurefelt soldier shout from somewhere, my classmates exchanged glances. They were trying to decide what to do by watching everyone else, afraid to act on their own.
Anger rose within me as I watched my classmates, too scared of being left out to make their own decisions. I stood up alone, left the shelter, and walked towards the highway.
“Hey, where are you going, Kawamoto?”
“Isn’t it obvious… I’m going to burn them!”
My classmates stared at me in disbelief and contempt as I pointed at the sky.
Give me a break… I’m fed up with you all too.
I think Oshima said something, but without turning back, I started running towards the highway.
Looking up at the sky from the unobstructed road, the enormous creature came straight at me.
“Damn, this is scary… Take this!”
I unleashed my most powerful fire magic at the wyvern, which was spreading its wings wide, claws bared in a predatory stance.
“Did I get it? Gah…”
The largest, strongest fireball I had ever created exploded, filling my vision. But then sharp claws pierced my stomach and back, and I felt my body lifted off the ground.
“No… way…”
A few moments later, I was slammed into the ground. Sharp fangs closed in, and as my neck made a sickening crack, my memory faded.
