Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 6.2
I knew this area belonged to the faction of the Second Queen, but it seemed I had unintentionally involved myself in the succession dispute again.
In addition, I was tasked with removing corrosion from coins and stains from dyed and patterned fabrics. I was given several corroded coins and a bundle of fabric that was acceptable to fail with.
No deadline was set, but I felt it was best to produce results before being reminded. From this day, I started reporting my progress about once every three days.
For two days, I repeated trial and error, reporting the results on the third day. Honestly, it was hard, but for the sake of delicious tea, snacks, and most importantly, my own safety, I had no choice.
By focusing on the work, I managed to remove the corrosion from the coins by the third day. I could extract the altered metal from the tiny holes created by the corrosion, restoring a shiny brilliance.
It felt like I was setting boundaries at an electron microscope level. Three days later, I managed to remove stains from uniformly dyed fabric.
This led to an unexpected benefit: I no longer needed to do laundry.
Previously, I hand-washed my clothes whenever I had free time, but my work clothes often retained stains. The oil stains from cleaning the kitchen were especially troublesome; despite making the kitchen spotless, my work clothes only got more stained.
“Here we go, transfer… transfer… transfer… alright!”
Hanging my dirty work clothes on a rod, I used transfer magic in one go. The stains were forcibly transferred and disappeared… or so I thought. The oil stains stuck to another part of the fabric during the process.
Even where the stains were supposedly removed, there was still a lingering smell. It seemed that the particles of dirt extracted from the fabric reattached themselves.
“Damn, I thought I could make laundry easier, but I still have to wash them… Wait a minute.”
I did my laundry in a water channel near the dormitory. This channel carried water from the castle gardens’ fountains, and the area near the dormitory was at the lowest point before the water exited the castle.
However, there were purification magic tools installed throughout the channel to maintain water quality.
“If using transfer magic in the air causes reattachment, what if I do it while the clothes are soaked in running water… transfer!”
When I activated the transfer magic with the work clothes submerged in the water channel, the dirt was washed away by the water. After taking the clothes out and using transfer magic three more times to remove the moisture, they were as clean as new.
In the decoration workshop, we applied this method by using wind to blow away the dirt while using transfer magic. Wetting the fabric could cause it to shrink or lose its shape, depending on the material.
While I had established methods for removing corrosion from metal and stains from uniformly dyed fabric, removing stains from patterned fabric proved extremely difficult. I could remove new stains from patterned fabric, but identifying old stains on old fabric was nearly impossible.
Eckels-san handed me an old dress marked for disposal due to irreparable damage and asked me to try removing the old stains on it. However, finding a solution was challenging.
Days passed with the old dress, featuring elaborate patterns, hanging on the wall of my cramped room, which had only a bed and a small shelf.
Living a reversed day-night cycle of cleaning at night and napping during the day, I often woke up startled, feeling like a ghostly woman was standing by my pillow. This coexistence with the ghostly dress lasted fifteen days.
The struggle with the old dress improved my ability to compare, infer, and further refine my boundary-setting skills. I had no idea at the time that these advancements in transfer magic would lead to a significant turning point in my future.
