“Yuto, let’s go into town together on the next day off.”

Tariq invited me to go out during the next holiday while we were at the evening duty station.

For us, who had lived in Japan, it was unthinkable, but the people working in the castle only had one day off a month.

Well, aside from the very lowest ranks, the daily work wasn’t too tough, but even so, having no days off was harsh. The first holiday we had here, I spent sleeping in my room without leaving the castle.

The reason was that I was still in the middle of cleaning the portraits, and I didn’t have the ID needed for going out. Unlike the others working in the miscellaneous duties section, who all had IDs, I, summoned from another world, did not.

I realized this on the evening before the holiday, so there was no way I could get an ID issued in time. This time, I had both my miscellaneous duties ID and a special skill recognition certificate I obtained through my work in the decoration section, so there would be no problem going out.

“Don’t worry, I’ll guide you. Just make sure you bring enough money.”

“And how much money should I bring? I don’t know anything about the currency system or prices.”

“Sorry, but could you teach me about money while we eat?”

As long as we were working in the castle, we didn’t need money at all. We were provided with work clothes, underwear, shoes, and we could eat in the cafeteria.

Though it felt like solitary confinement, we were given a room, and there was a shared bathing area. It’s been almost three months since I was summoned here, and during that time, I haven’t used any money at all.

After being assigned to the miscellaneous duties section, I apparently started receiving a salary, but I didn’t know how much I was getting or how much I had saved. Before eating, I went to the castle’s treasurer to withdraw money and check my balance, and after withdrawing three thousand fal, I had a balance of one hundred thirty-five thousand seven hundred fal.

I had no idea if that was a lot or a little. Tariq didn’t ask about my balance, so I thought it would be weird to mention it and kept quiet.

“Meals cost between fifty and one hundred fal. If you go drinking, it’ll be about three hundred to five hundred fal.”

“Hmm… I don’t really get it, but it seems like one fal is worth about ten times the yen we used.”

“Yeah, exchanging money from completely different worlds seems really tough.”

“There’s no standard to compare with… Prices for food, drinks, and rent vary greatly by location, so you can’t really compare values.”

“Well, as long as you don’t spend all your money, you’ll be fine. With three thousand fal, you can have a great time.”

If one fal is ten yen, then three thousand fal is thirty thousand yen. For a second-year high school graduate in Japan, spending thirty thousand yen on leisure once a month might be reasonable.

Especially since we don’t spend any money in our daily lives, spending a little extra shouldn’t be a problem. The night shift group, which cleans the inside of the castle, is given half a day more off than those who work during the day.

They are exempt from work on the night before their day off, and they don’t have to work on the night of their day off either. Otherwise, the night shift group would have to go out without sleep.

The night shift group consists of veterans with good skills, so this level of preferential treatment doesn’t cause any complaints. Without it, the veterans would be dissatisfied.

On the night before the day off, I was also exempt from work, but I couldn’t fall asleep easily. Partly because I had gotten into a nocturnal routine, but also because I was too excited about going into town.

Since being summoned to this other world, my classmates went on expeditions, but I hadn’t set foot outside the castle. The thought of what the outside town would be like made me feel like I was finally about to debut in this new world, and the anticipation and anxiety kept me awake.

“Inside the castle, the fashion style is a mix of European and Middle Eastern, and the hygiene isn’t bad. Since meals aren’t eaten with bare hands, it’s not too hard to adapt. But what about in town… The safety probably isn’t at the same level as Japan, right?”

I have only been to Hawaii on a tour with my parents, so I don’t really know what dangerous foreign places are like.
