Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 33.1
More than a full day has passed since we fled to the underground evacuation space following the wyverns’ attack, and it’s eerily quiet.
The passage leading to the surface is securely closed, and since we’re about ten meters underground from where the castle once stood, we can’t feel any vibrations.
In fact, we don’t even know if the wyverns on the surface are rampaging or staying calm.
The underground space is always illuminated by magical tools, so we’re losing track of the day and night rhythm.
Our only source of information is eavesdropping on the soldiers’ conversations during meals.
According to them, there are three wyverns, and they seem to be resting their wings in the national army’s warehouse.
“I always wondered what they used that huge empty warehouse for, but it was for this?”
“What? You didn’t know? It was built as a lesson from the last migration when the castle was half-destroyed.”
The wyverns’ migration occurs when young wyverns leave the group to find their own territory.
Naturally, they need a nest when establishing their territory.
Wyverns have a habit of digging nests near mountain or land peaks, but if they find a convenient place like a cave, they’ll use it as their own.
During the last migration, the wyverns that flew in tried to build their nest within the castle, causing significant damage by breaking walls and floors.
So, after repelling the previous wyverns, an empty warehouse was prepared for the next migration.
The entrance door and ceiling were made high so that even the huge wyverns could enter easily.
As planned, the wyverns entered the prepared warehouse and are now resting their wings.
The warehouse is a sturdy stone building, so there’s no need to worry about it breaking even if the wyverns get a bit rowdy.
Knowing the wyverns’ situation, Alberic started vehemently advising the king to attack.
“Father, the wyverns have already made their nest in the castle grounds and are attacking the townspeople. We can’t afford any more delay. Please make a decision!”
“Don’t rush, Alberic. The wyverns still seem alert. We should attack when they let their guard down and show an opening.”
“But, Father…”
Belnort sneered and made a sarcastic remark to the insistent Alberic.
“Ha, trying to play the good guy. If you’re so eager to attack, grab a sword or spear and fight yourself.”
“What did you say? The townspeople are already being harmed, you coward…”
“Ha? Who cares how many commoners die. You wanna go, you idiot?”
“Stop it! I’ve said now is not the time for internal conflicts!”
The king’s shout made Alberic look dissatisfied and Belnort grin smugly.
“Alberic, the knights are devising a strategy. I won’t tolerate any reckless actions. Belnort, you lack empathy for the people. Remember, the kingdom isn’t just made up of royalty.”
I was watching from a distance, so I couldn’t hear everything clearly, but Alberic and Belnort both seemed visibly frustrated.
I mean, the king is saying reasonable things, but isn’t he being too underestimated?
Maybe it’s because I’ve been absorbed into Alberic’s faction, but I feel he should take more direct command and silence these noisy brats.
Or perhaps, being a king who married into the throne means he doesn’t have that much authority.
Also, being confined in a narrow space, everyone seems generally irritable, and it feels like this irritation is spreading from one person to another.
