Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 33.2
I want to drive away the wyverns soon and have some quality time with Araseli… Just as I was thinking this and sulking in bed, I was summoned… by the king.
The one who came to get me was the king’s bodyguard knight, and he allowed Araseli to accompany me for protection.
I have no intention of pretending I don’t know why the king wants to see me.
He must need my severing transfer magic.
“Are you the one who defeated that Dorotheus?”
“Yes, my name is Yuto.”
“I won’t beat around the bush. Lend us your strength to slay the wyverns.”
As expected, the king’s request was to help with the wyvern subjugation, but considering the range of my powers, it was hard to straightforwardly say yes.
“We’ll take care of getting you close to the wyverns. Even then, is it no good?”
“What…?”
“Why do you think I wouldn’t know the limits of the range of your magic? Rather, it’s strange to think that the king wouldn’t know what’s happening within his own castle.”
The king spoke calmly, neither threatening nor mocking, exuding a different kind of dignity.
“To be honest, I was summoned here against my will from a peaceful world with few conflicts. I have no real experience in battles, and I’m terrified of facing the wyverns.”
“I understand. That’s why I will provide you with a powerful shield.”
Where the king directed his gaze stood a giant carrying a shield larger than a tatami mat. He was like a wall.
“I will assign Radin, my strongest shield. Even then, are you still worried?”
“I haven’t seen a real wyvern yet…”
“Then go and see for yourself. Give me your answer after that.”
As a king, he could have just ordered me, but he seemed to be considerate, wanting me to agree willingly.
Along with Radin, the king’s shield, I proceeded through a hidden passage leading to the warehouse where the wyverns were.
“Sorry, it’s not that I doubt your strength, Sir Radin…”
“It’s fine. Few have seen a wyvern. It’s natural to be terrified by legends, tales, and rumors.”
Radin, muscular and with a beard covering the lower half of his face, seemed intimidating like Dorotheus but had a friendly smile.
“Are wyverns really that formidable?”
“Yes. They’re simply large and powerful, and their scales are tough. Even Lord Mauroni would struggle to defeat one with a single blow.”
“But if they’re caught off guard and asleep…”
“Even when asleep, an ordinary person wouldn’t be able to leave a scratch.”
According to Radin, wyvern scales are magically reinforced and extremely hard. Not brittle, but resiliently tough.
“Creatures in the wild evolve in various ways to survive. In the case of wyverns, they use magic to strengthen their scales naturally when they sleep.”
“Then attacking them in their sleep wouldn’t work?”
“Correct. We must strike just as they awaken, when they haven’t fully reinforced their scales, and kill them in that moment of drowsiness.”
Attacking when the wyverns are fully alert would only result in needless sacrifices, so we wait for the moment they expose a vulnerability.
As we headed towards the warehouse where the wyverns had settled, Mauroni appeared from the passage ahead.
