Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 33.3
“It seems the king has pulled you into this.”
“Yes, that’s right. What do you think of the wyverns, Lord Mauroni?”
“Hmm… Yuto, you might be able to cut through them even while they’re sleeping.”
“But if their scales are magically reinforced, wouldn’t magic attacks be less effective?”
“That could be the case, but it should be fine.”
Saying this, Mauroni instructed Radin to protect me well and returned to the evacuation area.
“He’s quite a terrifying old man. It feels like he could split the shield in two if I let my guard down. How do you stay so calm?”
“I know that if he got serious, there’d be no way to escape, no matter how much I struggled.”
“I see. I hope you can stay that calm against the wyverns too.”
As we approached the surface, a low growl that reverberated in the pit of my stomach could be heard from above.
“Gruuu… Gwoooaaar!”
Even through the iron door, the roar made my body tingle.
“From here on, don’t make a sound. And don’t throw up… If they’re fighting over food, it’s better to look away. Don’t blame me if you lose your appetite for dinner.”
Several iron doors lined the way to the warehouse, and with each one we opened, the presence of the wyverns grew stronger. Not just the growls, but the dense smell of living creatures was getting closer.
Radin opened the last door and entered the hidden passage for monitoring the interior of the warehouse. He signaled to the soldier on duty to ask if I could observe.
The soldier vehemently shook his head and then made an X with both hands.
Immediately after, a horrifying sound came from beyond the wall.
“Crack… crunch… squish, squish, squish…”
The smell of bl00d wafting through the air brought back the scene of Dorotheus and the four knights I had killed, and I felt like my stomach contents were about to come back up.
But I felt that if I cowered here, I would never be able to face reality, so I begged the soldier with hand signals to let me see.
The soldier hesitated but eventually stepped aside for me. The monitoring spot was a simple peephole about four centimeters in diameter on the wall of the passage.
“Ugh…”
The shocking sight that met my eyes when I peeked through almost made me throw up.
The wyvern was carrying the lower half of a human body, intestines spilling out from the severed end.
It bit into one thigh while holding the other leg down with its hind leg, ripping the body apart to eat. It chewed loudly, crushing bones, and swallowed the pieces.
The fossils of pterosaurs discovered on Earth often have long, bird-like beaks, but the wyvern’s head resembled that of a Tyrannosaurus.
With powerful jaws, it crunched up the other leg and swallowed it too.
Its body height was around four meters. The wings, integrated with the front legs, were folded, so I couldn’t gauge their size.
Its body was covered with fine reddish-brown scales. Though “fine” is relative to the wyvern’s size—compared to fish scales, they were enormous.
The scales appeared black or white depending on the angle.
I fleetingly thought about using a giant fish scaler to peel them off and make the wyvern vulnerable to attacks, but dismissed the foolish idea.
There were two wyverns in the warehouse; the third one was nowhere to be seen.
If that one was hunting in the town below, then Alberic was right—there was no time to waste.
