Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 34.2
After a long kiss, I held Araseli’s left hand and headed to the meeting point.
Fourteen elite members were participating in this wyvern extermination operation.
Each wyvern would be attacked by four elites. The total of fourteen instead of twelve was because Radin and Araseli would be guarding me.
The plan was to unleash the strongest attacks on each wyvern. Ideally, we would defeat them, but if not, we’d continue with wave after wave of attacks.
The first three attackers were Mauro, Alberic’s martial arts instructor, Emelian, a spearman from Belnort’s Royal Guard, and me.
Although I was a bit unconventional, the forces of the king, Alberic, and Belnort would each take on one of the three wyverns.
Following me would be Saed, known as the King’s Spear, Hafiz with fire magic, and Urum with wind magic.
The fourteen of us gathered in the hall confirmed the final attack routes and order based on reconnaissance information. The warehouse had several hidden doors, and each team needed to know which path to take since the corridors were narrow.
Wyverns hunt during the day and sleep at night. When they sleep, they curl up, wrapping themselves with their wings, which also cover their heads.
Though the wings appear thin, they act as a shield by channeling magic, and the scales covering their bodies also become tougher, making it difficult to attack a sleeping wyvern.
Thus, we aimed to strike just as the wyverns woke and began moving. However, a problem arose. A hidden door near one sleeping wyvern was blocked by its body.
“If we can’t attack all three at once, the wyverns will rampage and cause more damage. We should postpone the operation until tomorrow…”
When Mauro suggested stopping, someone objected.
“No, delaying the extermination by a day will increase civilian casualties. Don’t worry, I’ll quietly pass by this wyvern and wait here. It seems you’re all hesitant, so I’ll take on this task.”
It was Emelian, the Royal Guard from Belnort, who boasted this.
Despite Mauro’s insistence on postponement, Emelian argued it was out of compassion for the people of Belnort, and the operation was decided to proceed.
The formation was as follows: Mauro’s team would lead from the door at the back of the corridor, followed by Emelian’s team passing in front of the wyvern, and lastly, our team.
After exiting the hall and entering the corridor, each team clustered together, maintaining a five-meter gap between them, and proceeded according to plan.
Everyone walked silently as we entered the corridor, but Radin, who was walking in front of me, muttered in a small voice.
“It feels dangerous…”
It was likely about Emelian, but I didn’t understand why Radin felt that way. Regardless, I needed to focus on my task.
Araseli had instructed me to keep my movements minimal and slow until the attack began. Our armor was top-notch and made almost no noise when we moved.
However, there was a difference in noise between smooth movements and sudden ones. We had to be extremely careful not to be noticed until the wyverns woke up.
We passed through the final door in the corridor and reached a hidden passage along the warehouse’s outer wall, where we heard a low wind sound. The regular blowing sound seemed to be the wyvern’s breathing.
Mauro’s team moved to the right in the passage, and Emelian’s team took the left corridor. We followed Emelian’s team into the left corridor.
Radin, who was walking ahead, signaled with his hand to stay calm and breathe slowly. I took a deep breath, but it felt like I couldn’t breathe properly.
I was starting to panic, but Araseli squeezed my right hand a bit tighter and nodded reassuringly, which helped me relax. No matter what, I was a novice in combat and could only do my best.
Following the signal from the soldier at the corridor’s junction, we synchronized our timing with Mauro’s side, opened the door, and Emelian’s team stepped into the warehouse first. The opened door let a strong beastly smell flow into the corridor.
Following Radin through the door, I saw a large mass covered in reddish-brown scales right in front of us. Accompanied by a low wind sound, the large mass moved slowly in waves.
The wyvern was so enormous that it seemed closer than it was, but it was still outside the range of my severing transfer magic. We planned to remain hidden in its blind spot and close the distance as soon as it woke up to cast the spell, but the tension was already at its peak.
My throat was parched, and I tried to swallow, but there was no saliva to swallow. We couldn’t start the operation until the wyvern woke up, but I found myself wishing it would never wake up.
However, my wish was in vain. The wyvern’s steady breathing suddenly stopped, followed immediately by a scream and the sound of metal being crushed.
