Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 36.1
The warehouse, which had been the scene of a fierce battle just moments ago, was now eerily silent.
Inside the massive stone warehouse lay the bodies of two wyverns, and several knights were strewn around them.
Mauroni, who had been looking up at the sky from the warehouse entrance, tried to sheathe his saber but gave up halfway, likely because it had bent during the intense battle with the wyverns.
When he approached, Mauroni turned back with a stern expression and, upon recognizing me, gave a wry smile.
“Yuto, you’re safe.”
“Somehow…”
“To take down a wyvern and survive, you must be exceptionally lucky.”
“No, I owe it to my partner. If it weren’t for Araseli, I’d be dead.”
“I just wanted to help Yuto-sama…”
“Thank you, you really saved me.”
I put my arm around Araseli, who was standing next to me, and pulled her close.
“Yuto-sama…”
“Araseli…”
“Ahaha, love, isn’t it…”
Even with Mauroni’s teasing, I didn’t feel embarrassed as I kissed Araseli. After surviving such a deadly struggle, this much should be permissible.
“So, how many survived?”
“Well… Hafiz is down, and Urum… oh, thank goodness, he seems to have made it somehow.”
Urum, who had been thrown like a ping-pong ball by the wyvern’s wings, was hobbling along with Saed supporting him.
Out of the three knights who had been with Mauroni, only one survived. As for Emelian’s team, one knight escaped through the door, but the other three were crushed and lay scattered.
Having confirmed the wyvern threat was gone, the soldiers who had been standing guard in the passage came out to assist the wounded knights and began preparing to lay the deceased to rest. The number of soldiers quickly increased, and they also started cleaning up the dead wyverns.
With so many people here, if we had received reinforcements when we engaged the wyverns, we might have driven them off more easily and saved more lives.
“A small elite force for a hunt was reckless…”
“No, it was the right choice.”
Mauroni quickly dismissed my accidental complaint.
“If we had sent in a large force from the entrance, more lives would have been lost.”
The wyvern’s body is protected by scales infused with magic. Even if we had deployed many knights and soldiers, few could penetrate its defenses and deal significant damage.
In that case, increasing our numbers would likely have only resulted in more casualties.
Though the logic was sound, my emotions refused to accept it.
“That may be true, but…”
“Facing a wyvern and having more than half of us survive is fortunate. This victory cannot be discussed without you, Yuto. You did well.”
“No, I could only perform because of the daily teachings from you, Mauroni-sama. Thank you.”
“Now, your wish can be granted.”
“Yes, I believe my comrades will be more useful outside of battle.”
Having taken down two wyverns, I had fulfilled my promise to the king. This should allow all my classmates to be released from combat duties.
But for now, I just wanted to rest. My whole body ached from walking, I was covered in dust from rolling around, and my body was sticky with cold sweat and grease, making me long for a bath.
As I descended the narrow passage back to the underground hall, I was surprised to find the king waiting to greet us.
