Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 37.1
It was reported that there were six wyverns at the border with Fulmelinta. However, only three appeared in the royal capital, and no further sightings were reported. Communication from the border had ceased, leading to the assumption that the remaining three wyverns had been defeated.
“What happened to the national army fighting at the border with Fulmelinta?”
“We don’t know. Since the notification about the wyverns migrating, communication has been cut off. We have no information on the current state of the border.”
Crown Prince Alberic wore a pained expression, a stark contrast to his demeanor this morning. It was understandable, considering they had reduced the wyverns from three to one and had driven off that one, only for four wyverns to return.
The returning wyverns had attacked the soldiers who were extracting materials from the carcasses of their slain comrades. Many soldiers, having removed their armor to facilitate the work, were caught off guard, especially since the escape routes were narrow. Over fifty soldiers lost their lives.
The reason it’s said “over fifty” is that this number refers to those unaccounted for. Those eaten by the wyverns could not even be confirmed as dead.
“Are the wyverns in the warehouse?”
“No, they’re breaking down the castle buildings and starting to build nests.”
The wyverns, initially staying near the carcasses of their fallen comrades, began breaking down the outer walls and the second-floor floors after finishing off the soldiers. Some wyverns even utilized the originally open atrium of the entrance hall to make their nests.
“Your Highness, considering that the wyverns returned to the carcasses of their comrades and are using the castle buildings to make nests, we must assume that wyverns possess a certain level of intelligence.”
“Yuto is right. Until now, we’ve treated wyverns as mere beasts, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they had intelligence. We should have anticipated this.”
During this morning’s battle, a wyvern had ambushed Emelian without any warning, as if it understood the threat. If it had viewed Emelian as a mere insect, it would have swatted him away with its wings. Instead, it attacked, recognizing him as a threat.
“Your Highness, how do you plan to defeat the wyverns this time?”
“That’s the thing…”
Alberic paused and bowed deeply.
“I’m sorry, but I’ll need to rely on Yuto’s power again.”
“Your Highness, please raise your head. When it comes to wyverns, I cannot avoid involvement. I will cooperate. However, I am still inexperienced in battle. Without support, I might be killed before I can take down the wyvern.”
“I understand. I’ll have Araseli continue to provide support, and I’ll arrange for more protection for you beyond just Radin.”
Given the circumstances of Emelian’s attack, it’s clear that even if a wyvern appears to be sleeping, it will notice any approach. And my magic is only effective at close range.
Whether the wyvern notices me first or I activate my magic first will be the deciding factor.
After finishing my private meeting with Alberic, I returned to the hall, where Mauro approached me.
“How are you feeling, Yuto? Can you move?”
“That’s not like you, Mauro-sama. Shouldn’t you be telling me to get up and move?”
“Hohoho, if you can still make such cheeky remarks, you should be fine. We’re about to draft the strategy with the knights. Join us.”
“Understood.”
Accompanied by Araseli, I followed Mauro to a corner of the dining hall, where knights were gathered around a table, scrutinizing the castle’s floor plans. The plans were updated with the latest information on the wyvern’s positions, gathered through reconnaissance using the castle’s hidden passages.
According to the information, there are three wyvern nests, with one of them shared by two wyverns. Leading the knights’ gathering was Saed, known as the Kingdom’s Spear, who was working alongside Radin, the Kingdom’s Shield. Saed is a royal guard knight and a swordsman who excels in body-enhancing skills.
Radin, with his bushy beard, was the opposite of Saed, who was clean-shaven, handsome, and muscular—likely very popular with women.
“Now that Mauro and Yuto are here, let’s start the strategy meeting. First, let’s confirm: is there any objection to recognizing Yuto as our main force in the upcoming operation?”
Though my teleportation magic for severing is powerful, there are likely others with more potent magic. However, the room remained silent.
“Um, isn’t there anyone stronger than me…?”
“Sorry, Yuto. Those with powerful fire or lightning magic are deployed with the national army in the battle against Fulmelinta and aren’t in the capital,” Saed explained.
