Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 38.2
My team consisted of Radin, Saed, me, Araseli, and Mauroni, moving through the corridor in that order. Today, Saed also carried a large shield.
Mauroni, considering yesterday’s battle, had a saber on each side of his waist. As we proceeded down the corridor and approached our destination, the tension increased, and the hand I held with Araseli became sweaty.
Sensing my tension, Araseli tightened her grip on my hand. When I glanced over my shoulder, she nodded reassuringly.
It’s embarrassing, but fear is still fear.
A soldier waited at the entrance to the room adjacent to the music room where the wyvern was. At Saed’s hand signal, the soldier responded with a hand signal indicating no issues so far.
We could hear the low, regular breathing of the wyvern: “Goo… Goo…” It seemed the sound was escaping through a broken part of the wall.
Peeking inside from the corridor, the room was neatly organized. It appeared that after being notified of the possibility of an attack through the wall, they had pushed aside items to ensure a clear path while the wyvern was out hunting.
Additionally, thick carpets had been laid in the room to muffle our footsteps. Radin and Saed entered the room first, kneeling by the wall and taking their positions.
Next, Araseli, Mauroni, and I entered the room. Araseli and I positioned ourselves at the wall between Radin and Saed, while Mauroni stood watch, his hand on the hilt of his left saber.
The wyvern’s breathing, “Goo… Goo…”, continued unchanged, indicating it was still unaware of our presence. We aimed to strike in the brief moment when the wyvern would awaken, groggy from sleep.
Despite the wall between us, the time we spent waiting in silence was suffocating. Still not… still not… still not…
Sweat trickled down my temple and dripped from my chin. At that moment, Saed nodded to me.
I immediately prepared to cast the transfer magic through the wall. Focusing on the wall, I saw a thin wall about ten centimeters thick, a space of fifty centimeters, and then the rhythmic movement of the wyvern’s flesh.
The thick flesh extended beyond the range of my magic’s effect. It was so massive that I couldn’t tell which part I was looking at, but I saw thick blood vessels and what seemed like internal organs.
“Goo… Goo… Goo…”
Suddenly, the breathing stopped, and Araseli tapped my shoulder.
“Transfer!”
“Gyauuuu!”
With the wyvern’s scream, the wall that had hidden us collapsed. Araseli pulled me toward the room’s exit.
The clanging metal sound was the debris hitting Radin’s and Saed’s shields, which they held up to protect Araseli and me.
“Radin, take care of Yuto!”
“Got it, don’t die!”
Saed threw his shield down the corridor, drew his sword from his back, and headed back into the music hall. Ahead of him, Mauroni was already swinging his saber.
“Graaaah!”
The wyvern roared, flapping its wings at Mauroni, causing blood to spray from its right side where I had slashed it. Its right leg was already stained red, and a pool of blood was forming on the floor.
“Alright, we did it, Yuto! Even if it escapes, it won’t survive.”
“With such a deep wound, wouldn’t it be okay without Mauroni and Saed finishing it off?”
“No, the more it moves, the more it bleeds, making it easier to finish off. That way, there will be less damage to the building.”
“I see…”
To me, the state of the building seemed irrelevant, but there must have been some reason for their concern. Beyond the collapsed wall, the wyvern, which had been thrashing about, began to slow down.
I didn’t know the wyvern’s anatomy, but I had slashed the area equivalent to a human’s liver. Judging by the amount of blood, it seemed I had cut through a vital organ.
“Ki… Ki…”
The wyvern, which had roared loud enough to shake the walls, began to let out a high-pitched, sorrowful cry. As it bled, the magic in its scales weakened, allowing Mauroni and Saed’s blades to start cutting through it.
From the wyvern’s perspective, it was probably just trying to survive, but since we couldn’t coexist, we had no choice but to fight to the death.
“Don’t hold it against me… I’m just trying to survive too.”
As I mentally apologized to the wyvern, which was now being slashed without resistance, a roar erupted from above.
“Gwaaah!”
Another wyvern appeared, smashing through the outer wall of the music hall.
“Mauroni, Saed, hurry! Let’s go, Yuto!”
“Yes!”
After confirming Mauroni and Saed were running back, we sprinted down the corridor and returned to the underground. The appearance of another wyvern to help was unexpected, but we had probably taken down our target.
Even if the remaining wyverns stayed, there were only three left. Somehow, I felt like we could see a path to victory.
