Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 42.1
The kingdom’s spear was unbroken, and its shield unshattered.
Though Saed and Radin were thrown outside the dance hall by the wyvern’s wings, they grumbled about the rough treatment and returned without anyone’s help.
I had worried they might have been killed this time, but it seemed ridiculous given their muscle-bound appearances. When they saw me, who had returned a bit earlier, they were overjoyed and hugged me in their mud-covered armor, making the effort of changing out of the wyvern’s bloody remains pointless.
Ouch… I don’t mind being hit, but go easy on me.
Saed and Radin were unscathed because while they were immobilized, Mauroni had drawn the wyvern’s attention as a decoy.
Mauroni returned unharmed, despite ruining a saber, proving he’s no ordinary person.
“Hahaha… activating magic while being eaten and splitting its head in two, that’s impressive. Your calmness in a tight spot is a great weapon, Yuto.”
“I’d rather not find myself in such tight spots.”
“Indeed, we can’t always rely on that. We should try the harassment strategy you suggested yesterday to drive them away.”
Two wyverns remain.
Having lost more than half their comrades and faced continuous harassment, I suspect they’ll give up on making the castle their territory.
“What happened to the remaining two?”
“I managed to weaken them a bit, but handling two alone was too much. I retreated at an appropriate point.”
The team conducting diversionary attacks outside the dance hall had injuries but no fatalities.
We decided to rest until noon and then formulate our next plan after checking the wyverns’ status.
I slept deeply, entwined with Araseli in the cramped bed, released from the tension of last night’s enforced wakefulness and relieved that we both survived.
At the strategy meeting after lunch, Saed first reported on the wyverns.
“Unfortunately, they still show no intention of leaving. Despite losing so many comrades, I can’t understand why they cling to this place… I can’t fathom a wyvern’s thoughts.”
Upon returning and confirming one of their comrades was killed, the remaining wyverns went on a rampage, destroying the dance hall. The dead one was buried under the rubble.
It’s hard to believe, but could it be some form of burial by the wyverns?
Afterward, the two moved to the entrance hall and seemed to have made it their new nest.
The entrance hall is smaller than the dance hall, which might give us a chance to break through the walls.
“The two went hunting in the town below, destroying central district buildings and kidnapping four people back to the castle grounds. They started eating at the training grounds, and we began the harassment immediately.”
Saed, smiling joyfully, began explaining the harassment.
The harassment involved mainly using fire arrows.
Physical fire seems more effective than magical fire against wyverns.
However, it’s not enough to deal a fatal blow, merely harassment.
“For us, it’s like being pestered by flies during a meal. They’re quite irritated by the interrupted meal.”
The attackers shoot a volley of fire arrows and then hide.
As long as they aren’t found, there’s no risk of counterattacks, and the attackers won’t be injured.
The wyverns, unable to find those disturbing their meal, grew even more frustrated.
“After their meal, they seem to stretch their wings and rest, but we won’t let them relax.”
Several passageways surround the training grounds, allowing us to continue the harassment by watching the wind direction and the wyverns’ movements.
“How long do you plan to continue this attack?”
“As long as we have an opening. If they sleep in the entrance hall, we’ll shoot fire arrows there too.”
It seems the harassment will continue thoroughly, disrupting the wyverns’ sleep until dawn.
“Yuto, depending on tomorrow’s situation, if there’s a chance for a breakthrough attack, will you do it?”
“Yes, if it’s a wall breach…”
“Then prepare to start at the same time as this morning.”
“Understood.”
“Well, the battle with the wyverns is nearing its end. Let’s drive them away without casualties and as quickly as possible.”
After the strategy meeting, Araseli and I went to scout the entrance hall.
It’s less than half the size of the dance hall, and with two wyverns in there, they’d likely be in contact with one wall or another.
The entrance hall has four connected corridors, and there are rooms around it like parlors.
It’s not certain, but I feel an attack through the walls might reach them.
“If they lean against this room’s wall, that would be ideal… but things rarely go that smoothly.”
“Yes, the effectiveness of the harassment will affect the strategy, so let’s be in top condition to move when needed.”
