When we stepped from the room into the hall, the air was tense. I spotted Mauroni and walked over to him.

“Mauroni-sama, what’s the commotion about?”

“It seems the wyverns have started digging up the ground.”

“Digging the ground? Where?”

“The soldiers shooting fire arrows at the wyverns in the training grounds were spotted, and the wyverns started digging up the area where they hid.”

Like children digging up an anthill, the wyverns chased the soldiers into the passageway and started digging. We might think they’re not good at digging, but that’s just human assumption. The wyverns are quite fast at it.

Mauroni looked up at the passageway where soldiers were busily coming and going.

“Could they dig all the way here?”

The royals had already started preparing to move, just in case. If the wyverns dig down here, they’ll evacuate to the military facility at the foot of the hill.

“The training grounds are far enough that I didn’t think they’d come here, but the entrance hall is another matter.”

Mauroni pointed to the ceiling in the opposite direction he had been looking.

“The entrance hall is probably around here.”

From the direction he pointed, the entrance hall wasn’t directly above but not far away. If the wyverns dig toward us, the ceiling of a room adjacent to the hall might collapse.

“We need a two- or three-layer defense.”

Instead of diving into the passage near the entrance hall after shooting fire arrows, we need to lure the wyverns to the entrance of a more distant passage. This requires additional archers to shoot fire arrows to support the escape and draw the wyverns further.

“Honestly, after losing so much, they should just give up and find another place to nest…”

“Indeed. I wish they would just leave already.”

“I’ll go discuss our next steps with Saed and the others. Yuto, eat dinner quickly and go to sleep.”

“Yes, I’ll sleep in a safe place with Araseli.”

Mauroni finally relaxed his expression and crossed the hall in search of Saed.

Honestly, I can manage that much… I think.

But then Araseli, standing next to me, also warned me.

“But when the wyverns are gone, I’ll give you plenty of rewards.”
