Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 65.1
“Welcome, Lord Kirikaze. Count Zarettino has been expecting you.”
Upon arriving at the lodging that day, I was greeted by a knight of the Zarettino household.
I couldn’t help but sigh at the same treatment I had received when I stayed at the Count’s mansion.
I thought about handling the situation right there, but since the Count himself was present, it would be faster to meet him directly.
“Please, lead the way.”
“Yes, of course! This way, please. Ah, the madam will be shown to her room by one of our attendants.”
The maid, who was standing next to the knight, froze with a tense expression as Araseli glared at her.
“It’s fine, Araseli. I’ll go alone.”
“Yuto…”
“They won’t dare make a move at this point.”
“Hah… I understand.”
“Make sure they treat you well.”
“I know they will.”
The knight answered briskly, showing no sign of guilt. He seemed to be the type who simply carried out orders faithfully.
As I glanced at him, the maid’s expression became even more strained, and she bowed her head. It made me feel like one of those obnoxious nobles who flaunted their power.
The knight led me to a room, which seemed to be used as a dining room or conference hall, a narrow but unnecessarily long room.
As I entered the room, a long table, capable of seating around twenty people on one side, stretched from the entrance to the far end. At the very back, five men were seated.
“Welcome, Lord Kirikaze. Please, take a seat.”
There was a stack of papers placed at the head of the table, right near the entrance, indicating that I was to sit there.
At the far end of the long table, more than ten meters away, the man seated appeared to be Count Zarettino.
The knight, thinking he was being considerate, pulled out the chair for me.
As I sat down and skimmed through the papers, it seemed they contained instructions for the handover.
“Lord Kirikaze, you will follow the procedures written there and proceed to Fulmelinta.”
Once I was seated, the man at the far end pointed to the table and spoke, but the distance and his poor enunciation made it difficult to hear.
After briefly glancing at the papers, I addressed the knight who had brought me here.
“Sorry, but I’m still new to my title and unfamiliar with the faces of the noblemen. Could you tell me which households the gentlemen seated there represent?”
“Certainly, sir. The gentleman seated directly in front of you is Count Byorn Zarettino. To his right, in the back, is Lord Aures, the eldest son of the Eberwein Marquisate. To the left, in the back, is Count Egmont Carbern. To the right, in the front, is Viscount Jurgen Belshelte. And to the left, in the front, is Baron Freutz Coddory.”
“I see… Thank you.”
As I thought, the bald man sitting at the head of the table with a condescending grin was Count Zarettino, the one who had ordered my assassination. The other nobles were smiling in the same way, but the only one ranked higher than me was the Eberwein family.
However, Aures Eberwein had not yet officially received the succession rights from the king. I had already confirmed this with Araseli beforehand, and in such cases, even if he were a marquis in name, as the head of my household, my status was higher.
Sitting at opposite ends of this absurdly long table was their way of showing that they didn’t recognize me as a noble and that they considered themselves superior, as well as keeping a distance to avoid being within range of severing transfer magic.
They were resting comfortably on the privileges of their class, yet the moment it was threatened, they reacted like spoiled children, and I was utterly disgusted.
