Disappointing Teleportation Magic ~ Even Though The Movement Distance Is Only 1 Millimeter, I Will Rise Through Ingenuity ~ - Chapter 65.2
I grabbed the stack of papers and, while glancing toward the door, stood up. The knight, assuming I was leaving, moved toward the door. But while his back was turned, I walked further into the room.
Seeing this, Count Zarettino and the others’ smug expressions quickly turned to one of fear.
“W-What are you doing? Stop him!”
By the time Count Zarettino shouted at the knight, I had already reached the middle of the room.
Startled by the Count’s voice, the knight turned around, but I raised my left hand to stop him. I pulled out a chair in the center of the table and sat down.
“Being so far away makes it difficult to hear. Come closer. Or are you afraid of me?”
“You…!”
“How dare you! Do you know who you’re speaking to?”
As Count Zarettino’s face turned red with anger, Aures Eberwein kicked his chair back and stood up.
Aures, who seemed about my age, looked like someone who had been pampered all his life. If he were a bit thinner, he might be handsome, but both his face and body were soft.
“Do I know who you are? You’re Aures Eberwein, right? Didn’t you hear the knight confirm that earlier? Or are those ears just for show?”
“You…! Do you think a commoner like you can get away with speaking to me like that?”
“If I can’t get away with it, what are you going to do? Do you even understand your situation? From here, it would be easy for me to take all five of your heads.”
Severing transfer magic wouldn’t reach from the opposite ends of the table, but at this distance, it was well within range. I made sure they knew, and all five of them froze in terror.
They probably chose this room because they knew the effective range, but the idea that just keeping a distance would be enough is shallow, to say the least.
To top it off, there’s only a fireplace at the back of the room, with no escape route at all—it’s just pathetic.
“Let’s get this over with. Neither of us wants to keep staring at unpleasant faces, right?”
When I gave a signal with my chin to move, the lowest-ranking member, Baron Freud Codori, stood up while glancing at the other four, then sat down in the chair two seats to the left from where I was sitting.
After confirming this, Oules walked over with an irritated step and sat next to Baron Codori. The remaining three followed suit.
“You all are fools.”
“Watch your mouth! You commoner-born…”
Oules had just stood up from his chair when Count Zarettino slammed his fist on the table.
The loud thud startled Oules, cutting off his words as he nervously looked at Count Zarettino’s face.
“Don’t get too cocky, boy…”
“So, you really are fools. If I’m just some cocky kid, you should have handed me over to Fulmelinta quickly. But instead, you pull this petty harassment. What if I get upset and refuse to go to Fulmelinta? What then?”
“You think that would be allowed?!”
“It’s not a matter of permission. If I, the Wyvern Slayer, resist with all my might, how exactly do you plan to restrain me? If you kill me, won’t this whole peace agreement fall apart?”
“You…!”
Count Zarettino, still with his fist on the table, trembled with rage.
If I used severing transfer magic and sliced his temple, it would likely result in a nice spray of blood.
“The fact that I’m here means I’m prepared to go to Fulmelinta. Doing something to shake that resolve—does that benefit the Kingdom of Yurefelt? If I start throwing a tantrum and refuse to go, wouldn’t the Eberwein territory remain occupied forever? Is that in Prince Belnort’s best interest? Is it in your best interest?”
As I reasserted the consequences of me refusing to go to Fulmelinta, the expressions of the five men changed.
Count Zarettino and Oules kept glaring at me, but the other three started easing their hostility and glanced at each other.
