- Chapter 19 - You're Not Even Enough to Fill My Teeth!
Playing the damsel in distress is an art.
Back when Meng Yingxue was still the head disciple of the Lingyun Immortal Sect, she had overheard her junior disciples discussing this very topic.
The first rule was: be delicate, be pitiable, be irresistibly charming.
Hearing this, Meng Yingxue couldn’t help but walk over and rap her knuckles on the table.
Softly, she said, “Neglecting your studies, slacking in swordplay, half-hearted in spells.”
“With just that, you’ve already lost your priority in the sect’s dating pool.”
The head disciple’s words left them utterly speechless—especially since they couldn’t think of a good rebuttal.
Because everything she said was true.
How infuriating!!!
And nowhere to vent that frustration!
Yet now, the very act she once despised—playing weak—had to be used on a mere demon. Meng Yingxue sighed, wondering if the world had truly declined or if she had simply lost her noble integrity.
Perhaps both.
“I told you, if you can’t handle it, don’t push yourself.”
“Now look at you—got yourself into trouble.”
“What good did that do you?”
The protagonist’s habit of showing off really needed to change. But alas, she was just a “weak, pitiful, and helpless” villainess!
“Your Majesty need not worry. It’s just a minor injury. A fortnight’s rest will suffice.”
No, in truth, the wound would heal in less than three days. But Meng Yingxue exaggerated it anyway.
Since she had to start learning how to please her “wife,” she might as well pull out all the tricks she once scorned.
“That won’t do. If you’re injured, I’d have to scour the demon realm for a physician to treat you.”
“I kept you by my side precisely so you could heal me.”
Shen Xi stared at the protagonist, thinking, Does she really think I’m that easy to fool?
The health bar on her system interface was flashing red—something only she, ahem, a fox, could see!
What kind of injury was this protagonist even faking?!
“If you can’t heal me, then… you should find somewhere else to be.”
“My palace doesn’t keep idle hands.”
Find somewhere else? Not a chance.
Shen Xi only said this to tease the protagonist. She couldn’t fathom why the protagonist had abandoned her position as the head disciple of the immortal sect to become her “foot-washing servant.”
Was it because her charm was simply too overwhelming? It wasn’t impossible—after all, she wasn’t just any human or demon.
She was a genuine nine-tailed fox!
“Your Majesty, can’t you say something nice to me, just this once, since I’m hurt?”
Meng Yingxue nestled her cheek against Shen Xi’s chest, watching as a fox tail draped over her shoulder. Silently, she recited a purification spell.
The bl00d staining the fox’s fur dissolved into a mist, vanishing into the air.
“What kind of nice words do you want to hear?”
“I’m the Demon Sovereign. It’s a miracle I don’t eat people!”
Isn’t the protagonist acting a bit out of character here? But Shen Xi had to admit—it was kind of adorable.
How rare! How rare!!!
“Didn’t Your Majesty… just feast yesterday?”
As the fox took a sip of her essence, Meng Yingxue calculated that she’d likely lose three days’ worth of absorbed spiritual energy.
Fortunately, she was an immortal cultivator.
Otherwise, if it were an ordinary human, one bite would probably turn them into dried meat like those hung out to dry by common households.
“What’s that? Not even enough to fill the gaps between my teeth.”
After steadying the female lead, Shen Xi glanced up at the gloomy skies of the demon realm and sighed inwardly. If there was one thing truly lacking about the demon realm compared to the celestial and mortal realms, it was this oppressive darkness—like smog pollution cranked up to the max!
Standing firm, Meng Yingxue lightly pressed her fingers together.
A yellow talisman materialized out of thin air. With a flick of her wrist, it danced in the wind before spontaneously igniting.
“By the power of the lunar yin, conceal my traces.”
Only after using the Lunar Concealment Talisman to mask her presence did Meng Yingxue feel at ease.
“Would Your Majesty like one as well?”
“My mastery of talismans isn’t half bad.”
Hey, was the female lead shamelessly singing her own praises here? Shen Xi flicked her fox tail dismissively, signaling she had no need for it.
“No need. I’m not some truant disciple from a human sect—why would I fear such things?”
She’d rather the female lead keep such treasures for herself. As a fox demon, she had plenty of ways to mask her demonic aura and conceal her tracks.
……
“Sect Leader, don’t push yourself!”
“There’s someone below using a sinister array to counter our Mystic Seven Ultimate Sword Formation!”
Drawing their swords and slamming them into the ground, the elders of the Lingyun Immortal Sect were red-faced with fury. They had watched as cracks finally appeared in the demonic array, only for it to miraculously repair itself.
They already had an inkling—there must be a formidable expert guarding this demonic teleportation array!
Such a complex and sinister formation couldn’t possibly be maintained by low-ranking demons. If the sect leader insisted on forcing his way in, the entire Lingyun Immortal Sect might pay a steep price.
“Leave?”
“My disciple is still trapped underground, her fate unknown, and you cowardly lot want to flee?”
“Let’s see who dares take a single step back today!”
His eyes bloodshot, his words dripping with venom, the sect leader bore no resemblance to his usual humble and courteous self.
“Sect Leader, we understand your grief, but this formation isn’t something you can—”
Before they could finish, the blackened array at the center suddenly spat out several tightly bound Lingyun Immortal Sect disciples.
They tumbled onto the ground in disarray, followed by their bonded spirit swords, which the array seemed to disdainfully eject. The swords wobbled midair before unceremoniously smacking their owners on the foreheads or backsides.
The sight was almost comical.
“S-Sect Leader… Senior Sister… she was captured by that lawless fox demon!”
“The fox demon even said… Senior Sister is a rare, once-in-a-millennium cultivation cauldron and plans to drain her dry!”
Pulling his face free from the dirt, a mud-smeared male disciple wasted no time recounting everything he had heard in the demon prison.
Only by venting it all could he hope the sect leader would avenge them and teach those arrogant demon jailers a lesson.
The sect leader’s expression darkened with every word, his face now resembling the soot-blackened bottom of a cauldron. A gale howled around him, his hair beginning to rise as if charged with fury.
“Audacious fox demon! To dare act with such impunity!”
“A scourge like this cannot be allowed to exist! We must rid the world of this menace!”
With a wave of his hand, the Sect Master of Lingyun Immortal Sect severed all the ropes binding his disciples. His robe fluttered as he declared:
“Since our Lingyun Immortal Sect cannot break this formation, I shall swallow my pride and summon the Mysterious Mechanism Sect!”
“Let them test whether this demonic secret technique is truly indestructible—whether it can truly block all of us mighty cultivators!”
