Divorce Application - Chapter 9
Chapter 9: The Meeting
Due to the delay of a few hours, the burned skin was mixed with soot, making it difficult to clean. Along with a suspected wrist fracture that required an X-ray and immobilization, the doctor she was familiar with admitted her to the hospital directly.
“Given your condition, do you need to report this to the police?” The doctor looked at the woman in front of her with a scrutinizing gaze. She had also heard about the divorce. Three months ago, she was the one who received Liu Sinan when she was in a deep coma.
Her parents were the family doctors for the Li family, and she also worked at the Li family’s private hospital. She vaguely knew that the two had had a conflict, but she hadn’t expected Liu Sinan to get herself into such a terrible state.
“No, don’t call the police,” Liu Sinan said, lying in the hospital bed, shaking her head at the doctor from behind the hanging IV drip. “And don’t tell anyone else.”
The doctor knew who she was referring to. If it were anyone else, they might think Liu Sinan was deluding herself. Li Jinping had already divorced her, so why would she care about her minor injuries? But this doctor had treated Liu Sinan three months ago and had a long conversation with Li Jinping about Liu Sinan’s condition, so she naturally knew how much Liu Sinan meant to Li Jinping.
Li Jinping was her boss, so she wouldn’t neglect someone her boss cared about.
The doctor didn’t agree to her request and changed the subject. “I’ll give you a few bags of glucose and a bag of protein. You can get a bl00d test tomorrow morning. I think you might have low bl00d sugar, and your physical condition isn’t very good.”
Liu Sinan wasn’t bothered. Almost no model had perfectly normal health indicators.
Especially since she hadn’t eaten a proper meal since the divorce. It wasn’t that she was deliberately ruining her health; it was that she couldn’t eat normally. The extreme psychological pressure had made her like an arrow on a taut bowstring, precarious and on the verge of collapse.
“Thank you, doctor.”
The next morning, the doctor came to Liu Sinan with her lab results, her expression very poor. “Your weight is seriously below the healthy standard. 174cm and 41kg—your weight is even lower than when you were admitted. And the degree of your low bl00d sugar is more serious than I imagined. Your bl00d sugar is below 2.5, and your hemoglobin is below 60. You have severe anemia.”
Liu Sinan said blandly, “I have chronic anemia.”
The doctor was annoyed by her indifferent attitude. “This time is different. If you don’t supplement it, it can easily cause immune system dysfunction and a weakened immune system, which will lead to long-term health problems.”
“I know,” Liu Sinan said. “I’ll cooperate with the treatment, but please don’t give me any more IV nutrition. I will cooperate with dietary therapy under the advice of a nutritionist.”
“But I need to work now. If possible, please discharge me. I will come in for a check-up every week.”
Liu Sinan thought her attitude was already very cooperative, but to her surprise, the doctor’s face turned even uglier when she heard her words. She slammed the door and left without another word. A few hours passed, and no one came to discharge her.
Liu Sinan called the doctor’s office to inquire, but was met with a scolding. “What’s more important, work or your life? Do you want money more than your life?”
The call was hung up on her.
Liu Sinan was a little helpless, but she was mostly afraid.
She was very scared of being alone, especially in a hospital.
The white bedsheets, the stainless steel surgical tools, the smell of disinfectant. All of these things made her feel an intense repulsion and disgust from the bottom of her heart.
Her parents had died in a hospital. An American private hospital with clean and grand decor, but the doctors were completely heartless. Liu Sinan had arranged for her mother, who had tried to commit suicide, to be in the hospital, and she had to go out and work to pay the hospital bills.
But the medical staff didn’t do their duty. Liu Sinan’s mother and father, in a completely open manner, committed suicide on a hospital bed, using a hospital syringe to inject air.
Since then, the hospital had become a place she both hated and feared.
Staying here alone for one night was her limit.
Liu Sinan opened her phone’s contact list, wanting to see if she could find someone to accompany her, but as she scrolled through, she realized there was no one.
She had friends, but since her divorce from Li Jinping, she had almost subconsciously assumed that those people would no longer associate with her.
Besides a few childhood friends, she really didn’t have any friends she could contact in the country.
But her childhood friends were far away in the South, and it was impossible for them to come all the way here for such a small matter.
So Liu Sinan decided to sneak away.
As soon as she decided, she wrapped her clothes tightly around herself under the hospital gown. During a break between nurses checking on her, she slipped out the door.
She paused at the nurses’ station for a moment and slipped downstairs when they weren’t paying attention.
She didn’t dare to take the elevator, afraid of running into a familiar doctor, so she climbed the stairs alone.
The stairwell was rarely used. Between the two floors, there was a large window that overlooked the parking lot outside.
“Why is she here?” Liu Sinan saw Li Jinping getting out of a car in the parking lot, with several doctors following her. Her expression didn’t look very good; she looked very tired.
Liu Sinan knew where Li Jinping’s private hospital room was.
Li Jinping and her entourage were walking over and would be on the elevator in less than a minute.
She would use her VIP card to go directly to the top floor, and at that point, Liu Sinan would no longer have a chance to sneak in.
Wait, why would she sneak in?
Liu Sinan was startled by her own thought, but for some reason, she felt her hazy heart suddenly leap.
It seemed to be cheering for her bold idea.
Liu Sinan hesitated for only two seconds, then turned and sprinted back up the stairs.
One floor after another, Liu Sinan never thought she could climb so fast.
Sweat, panting, exhaustion. Her legs felt heavy as if they were filled with cement. Her chest was tearing at the air, and her bloody breath went in and out of her nostrils.
Liu Sinan’s vision went white, and just as she was about to collapse, she opened the stairwell door to the top floor.
At the same time, the elevator across from the stairwell opened with a “ding.”
Li Jinping stood in the center, surrounded by the people.
Her demeanor was calm, her figure was tall and graceful, and her hair was neatly pulled back and tied into an elegant bun behind her ear.
Her gaze lifted from its downward position and focused on Liu Sinan.
In Liu Sinan’s eyes, those few seconds were like a slow-motion scene.
She found that she could clearly see every single one of Li Jinping’s expressions, from her initial blankness and indifference to a momentary look of confusion and surprise upon seeing her, and then the sudden hiding of all her emotions.
Liu Sinan wasn’t sure if she had seen it correctly, but Li Jinping seemed to have quickly frowned.
The two of them looked at each other from a few feet away.
The surroundings were incredibly quiet, with only Liu Sinan’s heavy breathing.
Finally, Li Jinping moved.
She turned and said to the doctors behind her, “Wait for me in the hospital room.”
After the people around her had left, Li Jinping slowly walked towards Liu Sinan.
Liu Sinan looked at her without speaking, her entire body stiff.
Li Jinping’s gaze moved from her face downwards, scanning her quickly and lightly. She said calmly, “You’ve lost weight.”
Liu Sinan’s eyes suddenly reddened. “My lady… you’ve lost weight too.”
Li Jinping didn’t agree or disagree, but said blandly, “How did you get yourself into this state?”
Liu Sinan took a few deep breaths and finally stopped having trouble breathing. The dizzy feeling also gradually improved.
She slowly straightened up. The hand that had been covering her stomach while she was hunched over fell naturally, but the other hand, which was protecting her stomach, didn’t move.
Li Jinping’s gaze suddenly fixated on that hand and she said in a low voice, “How did that happen?”
Liu Sinan’s wrist had been cracked by Zhao Qiran yesterday. The X-ray results showed a minor fracture, and her wrist was wrapped in a small splint. It wasn’t obvious when she was hunched over, so Li Jinping hadn’t seen it at first.
Seeing Li Jinping’s sharp gaze, Liu Sinan couldn’t help but shrink back.
Realizing that her expression had been too serious, Li Jinping lowered her gaze, silently softened her expression for a moment, and turned her head away from her.
She didn’t know why, but Liu Sinan was easily afraid of her. Sometimes, when she didn’t hide her emotions well and her eyes looked fierce, she would scare her.
Thinking of how Liu Sinan had just run up the stairs, Li Jinping thought for a moment and said calmly, “Did you run up here because you needed something from me?”
Only after Li Jinping returned to her cold demeanor did Liu Sinan dare to look at her.
Perhaps it was out of guilt, or perhaps it was out of longing, but Liu Sinan’s nostrils felt like they were stuffed with cotton, and her words came out muffled.
Liu Sinan complained softly, “I couldn’t get through to you on the phone.”
She had later found an excuse to try to call Li Jinping, but found that the call never went through.
“I wanted to see Yánlì. I’m the one who raised it…”
