Divorce Is An Absolute Must! - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Rescue
â—ŽIn the midst of a marriage rescue!â—Ž
Zhu Qing temporarily received too much information, each piece of which was incredibly explosive, shocking her brain that had been so well-behaved and honest for many years.
Qian Cancan spoke so earnestly, but Zhu Qing couldn’t imagine herself doing such a thing. Her character was absolutely fine, and she couldn’t possibly have a violent streak!
Zhu Qing denied it flatly, “Impossible, absolutely impossible!”
Qian Cancan just looked at her with a haunted expression, “I saw you two pulling and shoving with my own eyes. She was pushed to the ground by you, and you told her not to touch you and to get lost.”
Someone as precious and elegant as Li Lan was like a dazzling fairy in the sky. Zhu Qing couldn’t even imagine herself and Li Lan being in a relationship, let alone laying a hand on her.
How could anyone possibly hit a face like that?!
Zhu Qing grabbed Qian Cancan’s shoulders and shook her frantically, “And you just watched?! You didn’t stop me?!”
“Oh, no, I was going to beat you up,” Qian Cancan said casually.
Zhu Qing thought that was more like it and nodded. Before she could speak, Qian Cancan sighed, “But Li Lan stopped me and wouldn’t let me hit you. She kept defending you, but you just walked away without looking back.”
Zhu Qing was like a squealing chicken with its air valve pulled out, her throat choked, her mouth open but unable to make a sound.
How could she have done such a bastardly thing? Was Qian Cancan blind and mistaken, or had she taken the wrong medicine and been poisoned?
Zhu Qing doubted her life for a while, hugged a pillow, and slumped back onto the bed, muttering, “What should I do?”
Qian Cancan said, “Repent.”
Zhu Qing didn’t want to bother with her. The amnesiac her was like an unarmed soldier on a battlefield, a streaker on the street, or a fly that accidentally took its head off while rubbing its hands and face—completely clueless!
Qian Cancan put the half-eaten guava back in her mouth and said seriously, “Mourn. Pray. Try to get more assets for yourself when you sign the divorce agreement this afternoon.”
“Signing the divorce agreement this afternoon!?” Zhu Qing shot up.
Qian Cancan said as a matter of course, “Yeah, the two of you have been fighting about the divorce for about two months now. If you can’t make it work, then get divorced, what else can you do?”
Zhu Qing opened her mouth, wanting to say something but stopping herself, “Let me think.”
Qian Cancan said, “Think about what?”
“Think about… how we ended up getting divorced?” Zhu Qing murmured.
Qian Cancan was silent for two seconds, “If you don’t want to mourn and pray, then rescue it.”
Zhu Qing was stunned, “Rescue?”
—
In a luxurious and solemn law firm, at a mahogany desk, a woman wearing sunglasses was on the phone.
The fingers holding the phone were exceptionally long and well-proportioned, like exquisitely carved jade.
In just half an hour, she had already received ten phone calls.
The woman standing next to her would occasionally lean over and whisper something in her ear.
The lawyer sitting across from her also looked at his watch.
“Ms. Li, the time you and Ms. Zhu agreed on was an hour ago.”
Li Lan hung up the phone, her profile a clean, sharp line.
“Qian Chu, go and ask what happened to her?”
The woman standing next to her said, “Yes.”
The sound of a phone ringing echoed in the quiet law firm.
Li Lan frowned, about to answer the eleventh call, but realized it wasn’t her phone.
At the same time, something flashed on the table opposite her.
A woman dressed in a fresh style popped her head up, carefully pressing down on the documents on the table and moving them to the side bit by bit.
She was like a little hamster stuffing food into its mouth, cheeks bulging, and was so focused that she ignored the looks cast her way.
Li Lan turned her head slightly. Qian Chu noticed her movement and followed her gaze.
When she saw who it was, Qian Chu’s eyelids twitched.
“Ms. Zhu,” Qian Chu strode forward and grabbed Zhu Qing’s hand, “What are you doing?”
Zhu Qing was startled and let go of the bag she was holding. The ringing sound instantly grew louder. She quickly took out her phone and hung up.
“Well,” a mix of embarrassment, difficulty speaking, and hesitation flashed across Zhu Qing’s face, “Haha, you’re here too.”
Qian Chu said, “The time we agreed on was an hour ago. We’ve been waiting for eighty minutes.”
Qian Chu’s tone was very normal, with no hint of accusation, but Zhu Qing felt a chill run down her spine.
Especially when she caught a glimpse of the tall, elegant woman across the table looking at her. She took off her sunglasses and looked over.
Zhu Qing cleared her throat, “Okay, let’s start. I’d like to look at the agreement first.”
Qian Chu held out her hand and said, “Alright, please have a seat.”
Then she glanced at Zhu Qing’s squatting posture.
Zhu Qing quickly stood up, picked up the agreement, and sat down across from her.
In her bag was a new phone she had just gotten a new SIM card for, and she hadn’t had time to turn off the sound.
She had been behind these people, trying to mentally prepare herself on how to start the conversation.
At that moment, the phone in her bag suddenly rang. Her subconscious reaction was to squat down and cover the phone.
That’s how the comical scene just now came about.
Such an entrance was truly too embarrassing. Zhu Qing wiped non-existent sweat from her forehead and looked at the agreement in her hand.
Perhaps Zhu Qing’s behavior was too stiff, so Li Lan, who had been silent all this time, suddenly spoke.
“This is the same as what we discussed last time, there have been no changes.”
Li Lan’s voice was as good as her looks. If you had to describe it, it felt like a cool, gentle breeze flowing over a rocky riverbed on a summer night in a lush mountain range.
Only the tail of her voice had a slight downward inflection, giving it a cold edge.
Zhu Qing looked up at her, lowered her head, and looked up again.
Her serious expression looked like it was trying to burn a hole through the agreement.
A few more minutes passed, and the lawyer couldn’t help but ask Zhu Qing if she had any questions.
Zhu Qing couldn’t delay any longer. She ruffled her hair and bit the bullet, speaking.
“Well, I feel like some parts of this agreement aren’t appropriate…”
“What happened to your head?”
Two voices spoke at the same time.
Zhu Qing was stunned. Before she could figure out who said the other sentence, she saw the woman across from her, who was many times more stunning than in her photos, suddenly frown.
“What happened to your forehead?”
The other person emphasized her tone and repeated herself.
“Oh, this,” Zhu Qing pushed her hair away, revealing her swollen forehead. She said nonchalantly, “I bumped it. It’s nothing.”
Then she held up the agreement, as if she had fully steeled herself, and said with a gentle smile, “Well, I have quite a lot of post-marital assets. Should we postpone this agreement for a while?”
Li Lan’s gaze suddenly became heavy, with a hint of an almost imperceptible shock.
What was she saying?
When Zhu Qing brought up the topic of assets, she wanted to remind the other party that she definitely didn’t earn as much as her, and that the assets needed to be clearly separated so that she didn’t take advantage of her.
After all, she sounded like the scumbag in this story.
Unfortunately, the three people present completely failed to grasp her hint.
The lawyer was very surprised, “Ms. Zhu, are you willing to give up on signing the divorce agreement?”
Zhu Qing nodded, “Yes. Such an important matter cannot be decided so casually. I think when two people are living together, everything should be carefully considered.”
Li Lan didn’t say anything. Her gaze was like a deep blue, cold lake, where any stone thrown in would not cause a ripple. It was calm, cold, and filled with intense scrutiny.
She looked from Zhu Qing’s forehead to her face, inching her way down to her body, and finally resting on the agreement she was holding down.
This person’s expression was quite different from before. Her slightly clumsy behavior and quirky way of speaking gave Li Lan a sense of long-lost familiarity.
Li Lan’s gaze deepened.
Zhu Qing felt the pressure growing.
She gulped and decided to just be blunt, “The world is big, but money is bigger. As for other reasons… my temper is very good now. I don’t hit people. There’s no need to rush into a divorce.”
Zhu Qing would rather die than promise to fulfill her marital duties in front of so many people.
But she could promise not to hit people again.
Domestic violence hurts feelings and is illegal, so she must firmly oppose it. It shouldn’t happen even once.
Just when Zhu Qing was about to blurt out something else, Li Lan finally spoke.
“You have a lot of post-marital assets?” Li Lan asked softly.
Zhu Qing immediately nodded, “Yes. And my temper is good… even if it wasn’t before, I’ll change for the better! We can take our time to think things through.”
Li Lan remembered her own eight-figure annual income, her eyebrow raised slightly. She confirmed again, “Are you sure you want to take your time to think things through?”
Zhu Qing, “Mm-hmm.”
Li Lan’s fingers tapped on the table, tap, tap.
A few seconds were stretched infinitely.
Zhu Qing almost suffocated in the silence.
“Alright,” Li Lan suddenly lowered her head, her lips seemed to be pressed together, the downward curve looking like displeasure or like she was suppressing some other curve. Her voice rang out again, a final decision, “Let’s discuss this next time.”
Zhu Qing let out a long sigh of relief.
After saying that, Li Lan didn’t stay. She put on her sunglasses and mask, stood up, and left.
Zhu Qing also quickly stood up, smiling as she watched her leave.
—
On the way back, Zhu Qing couldn’t help but brag to Qian Cancan.
“It’s just solved?” Qian Cancan was as shocked as if she had seen a ghost in broad daylight.
Zhu Qing was extremely pleased with her performance, “One day a couple, a hundred days of grace. I already said I won’t be violent anymore. And anyone would be sensitive when it comes to assets, right? She makes so much money. I’m giving her a chance to secure her pre-marital assets and re-divide the post-marital assets. How selfless and kind is that as a reminder!”
Qian Cancan thought about it and accepted the explanation, but a shadow of doubt remained.
She vaguely remembered Qian Chu saying that their assets didn’t need to be divided at all.
Qian Cancan was noncommittal about Zhu Qing’s reasoning, but one thing confused her.
“The divorce was something the two of you agreed on. Even if you don’t sign the agreement now, the conflict between you two is still there,” Qian Cancan said.
Zhu Qing was immediately choked up. She stopped her hopping, and let out a sigh.
Qian Cancan pressed, “What?”
Zhu Qing rubbed her chin, “I forgot about that.”
Qian Cancan was speechless.
“Anyway, let’s talk about it after I get my memory back,” Zhu Qing said, “And weren’t you the one who told me to rescue it? Let’s rescue it first, and then we can regret it if it changes later, can’t we?”
Qian Cancan: …I knew this person still had a hooligan’s attitude.
“Fine. Go back to the hospital as soon as you’re done. You have another check-up tomorrow. If everything is fine after that, you can be discharged.”
Zhu Qing skipped back, her mood constantly lifting, “Discharged? Then when I’m discharged, do I get to go home?”
Qian Cancan said coolly, “You’ve been staying at my place for the two months you were fighting over the divorce, thank you very much.”
Zhu Qing said quickly, “Then don’t wait for me at the hospital. Go back quickly, pack my things, and send them back. I want to go back to our home as soon as I’m discharged!”
Qian Cancan hung up the phone in silence.
—
In the Model X car, Li Lan was leaning back in the rear seat, resting with her eyes half-closed.
“Did you find out?”
Qian Chu put down her phone and glanced at Li Lan’s expression, speaking cautiously, “The hospital said that Ms. Zhu has lost more than a year’s worth of memories.”
Li Lan’s eyes snapped open.
“Amnesia?”
A look of sudden understanding flashed across Li Lan’s face. That would explain it.
Recalling the scene just now, that kind, cautious, and enthusiastic Zhu Qing was indeed very different from before.
How could the person who had been arguing and making a fuss about getting a divorce, and who would get furious at the sight of her, sit down so calmly to talk?
Not to mention giving up on signing the divorce agreement.
Qian Chu handed the medical record to Li Lan, hesitating, “I reported to you this morning that she rolled down the stairs while saving a little girl at the kindergarten.”
Li Lan stared at the clear photos in the medical record. The stairs were sharp, and there were bruises of varying degrees on her elbows and knees.
The injuries were purposefully photographed in close-up and were very shocking to see.
Li Lan’s expression was not good.
“What about her head?” Li Lan’s gaze was heavy.
Qian Chu said, “It was a temporary memory loss caused by the impact. The hospital said it’s a common phenomenon, and there’s a high probability of her memory returning later.”
Li Lan’s relaxed expression tightened again.
Qian Chu observed her and said, “…Actually, Ms. Zhu’s amnesia is a good thing for you.”
“The marriage agreement between you two was originally signed for eighteen months. With her having lost her memory, she won’t be making a fuss about getting a divorce, which is also good for your future career development.”
Li Lan didn’t say anything for a while. Her face, which looked cold because it was so exquisite, was frozen in the shadow of the back seat. She flipped through the medical record from beginning to end.
A detached voice rang out.
“My career doesn’t require her to compromise.”
“Find the best doctor,” Li Lan said in a low voice, “No memory is useless, and no brain damage should be taken lightly.”
Qian Chu paused for a moment and then said quickly, “Yes.”
