Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 10
Xu Qing took a taxi to the city’s central hospital. Madam Min remained unconscious, hooked up to an IV drip and an oxygen tube.
Xu Qing found the on-duty doctor to inquire about her mother’s condition. The doctor simply repeated, “She’s out of danger now. Just monitor her bl00d pressure, watch her diet, maintain a healthy emotional state, and try not to upset her. Check her bl00d pressure regularly. Prevention is always the best approach in these cases.”
“Thank you for your hard work,” Xu Qing said, noting the doctor’s instructions before returning to the ward to stay with Madam Min.
Mr. Xu Kai suddenly appeared, returning from who-knows-where. Seeing Xu Qing brooding by the bedside, he sneered, “Look who’s here, the dutiful daughter. Where have you been?”
Xu Qing lowered her head and said, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have defied you.”
“Your mother called you all night, nearly driving herself mad with anger,” Xu Kai said lazily, settling onto a hospital bench. He continued his taunts, “Almost risking her life over such a trivial matter? It’s truly baffling.”
“Mom has a bad temper and health issues. I forgot,” Xu Qing replied, standing rigidly upright, her face cold and expressionless.
“You’re old enough to know better. I won’t lecture you. You’ve seen what happened to your sister—learn from her mistakes and stop acting recklessly,” Xu Kai said, picking up his thermos and standing to address Xu Qing. “I’m heading back now. Take good care of Mom and try to be patient with her. Everything she does is for your own good.”
Xu Qing had no response. She took over Xu Kai’s shift, sitting by the bedside to wait for Madam Min to wake up.
It was destined to be a long, agonizing night.
Xu Qing’s inner turmoil had nowhere to go, leaving her staring blankly at the sickbed.
Remembering her rebellious sister, Xu Qing felt a pang of envy. She’d heard her sister was now running a farm in rural Thailand, her skin tanned dark, and living a carefree life with several Thai girlfriends.
Years ago, her sister had defied the family by divorcing her ex-wife, relinquishing custody of her daughter, and leaving all her assets to her former spouse—each decision a landmine for Madam Min. She’d then severed all ties with the family, not even a phone call in eight years.
After her sister left, Xu Qing, as the family’s “only” daughter, had no choice but to shoulder the responsibilities her sister had abandoned. She obediently followed her family’s arrangements for her career and marriage.
Eight years ago, Min Se had nearly died from a stroke. Even as she lay in the ICU, her elder sister never once visited her in the hospital.
At the time, Xu Qing had hated her sister with a burning passion. Now, she envied her sister’s unwavering resolve.
Around one in the morning, Min Se woke up. Xu Qing, still relying on coffee to stay awake, asked, “How are you feeling? Should I call the doctor?”
Min Se’s face was sallow as she stared coldly at Xu Qing before turning her head toward the window, refusing to speak.
After a moment, she said, “Water.”
Xu Qing fed her water and wiped her face with a towel.
Still furious, Min Se ignored her and soon closed her eyes to sleep again.
Xu Qing finally had a chance to rest. Her body was exhausted, but her mind buzzed with caffeine.
The next day was Friday. Xu Qing took a day off work to stay at the hospital and continue caring for Madam Min.
Madam Min remained ungrateful. When she was thirsty or hungry, she would rather press the call button for a nurse than speak to Xu Qing, who was sitting right by her bedside.
For Xu Qing, this psychological torment nearly drove her to the brink of collapse.
During her lunch break, she received a call from the Yuan Omega girl.
“Sister, are you busy?” the girl’s voice was soft and sweet, sounding utterly out of place in this dilapidated world.
“Just about to eat,” Xu Qing replied, letting out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, finally someone to talk to.
“I’m eating too. After lunch, I get a half-hour break,” the girl said, pausing with her spoon in hand. “Sister, have you resolved the trouble at home?”
“It’ll take some time yet. Why do you ask?”
“I was worried about you. You left in such a hurry last night, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it all night…”
Xu Qing chuckled. “Then why didn’t you call me last night?”
“I… I was afraid of disturbing you,” the girl murmured. “Besides, I fell asleep as soon as I got home… Work is so tiring…”
Remembering how the girl could fall asleep anywhere, Xu Qing couldn’t help but smile.
The faint sound of her amusement carried through the phone. Fu Shuang listened intently, her voice tinged with hope as she asked, “Sister, will you… come home tonight?”
Xu Qing replied coolly, “I won’t be back on weekends.”
“Oh… okay,” Fu Shuang murmured, her voice dropping. “Just checking. You go ahead with your own things.”
“Alright,” Xu Qing said.
Confirming there was nothing else to say, Fu Shuang slowly hung up.
Come to think of it, this Alpha sister always seemed cold and aloof, rarely showing much enthusiasm. The only time she’d seen her truly animated was that night when she’d fought—her fierce and飒 appearance had been vividly imprinted in Fu Shuang’s mind.
…And the way she’d been rushing through the subway station yesterday.
Not seeing her all weekend?
Fu Shuang couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
The phone call had worked better than coffee. Feeling refreshed, Xu Qing ate a quick meal and returned to the hospital room, where Mr. Xu Kai had already arrived.
“I’ll take care of your mother now. You go handle your business,” Xu Kai said, opening the lunch prepared by their housekeeper and urging Madam Min to eat.
Xu Qing tossed the takeout she’d brought from downstairs into the trash and turned to leave.
“Where are you going?” Madam Min asked.
Xu Qing nearly blurted out “to work,” but the words caught in her throat. “I’m going to the Fu Family,” she said instead.
Min Se nodded, satisfied. “Go early and come back early.”
Xu Kai: “Take my car keys.”
Xu Qing navigated to the villa district where the Fu Family resided. As she drove up to the Fu Family’s courtyard gate, two boisterous teenagers suddenly darted out, nearly colliding with the front of her car.
Xu Qing slammed on the brakes and quickly got out to check. To her surprise, the reckless teenagers burst into laughter and ran off, chasing each other with toy guns.
A young woman in a red dress stood on the balcony, shouting at the top of her lungs, “Haoze! Haoming! Watch out for the cars! Don’t run out to play!”
The Fu Family’s sprawling courtyard was nearly as large as an elementary school playground, yet these two teenagers still managed to stage a near-accident with Xu Qing’s car. Xu Qing was utterly speechless.
Watching the boys’ wild chase, she instinctively grabbed one by the collar and demanded, “Fu Haoze, where’s your father?”
“I’m Haoming, and I don’t have the surname Fu. My surname is Lu,” the boy protested, struggling to free himself. He refused to give up his toy gun battle with his brother. Xu Qing simply snatched the gun from him and tossed it to the ground, declaring authoritatively, “Is your father home? Has your sister Fu Shuang returned? Do you know?”
“I don’t know!” Lu Haoming snapped, his frustration growing. But a teenage boy’s strength was no match for a grown Alpha. After struggling briefly, he collapsed to the ground, wailing toward the balcony, “Mom! Someone’s bullying me! Come quick!”
A teenager nearly 1.7 meters tall, and he’s crying like a baby?
Xu Qing released him with a grimace. Seeing the woman in the red dress emerge from the villa, she greeted her with a radiant smile, “Oh, it’s Miss Xu! Please come inside and sit down.”
“Mom! She’s bullying me!” Lu Haoming pointed at Xu Qing, shouting, “She started it!”
“You’re just too weak to beat her!” Lu Haoze jeered, eager to stir up trouble. “You’re so embarrassing!”
“That’s a lie! If you’re so tough, try fighting her yourself!” Lu Haoming’s face flushed crimson as he scrambled up and grabbed his brother, the two boys immediately wrestling.
Lu Yijiang, infuriated by her two idiotic sons, gritted her teeth and roared, “Get out of here! Stop making a scene!”
With that, she swung her massive palm at both boys’ backsides.
Turning back to Xu Qing, Lu Yijiang regained her composure and smile. “Miss Xu, please come inside.”
Xu Qing stood her ground, cutting straight to the point. “Has Fu Shuang returned home?”
Lu Yijiang forced an awkward smile and sighed. “We’ve checked everywhere—the school, her friends’ houses—but no one knows where she is.”
“Have you reported her missing?” Xu Qing asked.
Lu Yijiang sighed again. “We went to the police station, but they won’t take the case unless someone has been missing for 24 hours. Since we can still reach Shuang Shuang by phone, they don’t consider her missing. They don’t handle cases of adults running away from home.”
Xu Qing nodded, understanding. “What about Mr. Fu? Is he home? What does he plan to do?”
“Mr. Fu isn’t home,” Lu Yijiang said with a strained smile, her lips pressed into a thin line. She shifted uncomfortably, twisting her shoulders. “What can we do in this situation? Miss Xu, you’re a bright young woman from a good family. To be honest, any other Omega would have jumped at this marriage. It’s just that our Shuang Shuang is too immature to appreciate what she has… Look at our Haoze…”
Xu Qing interrupted her. “It’s alright. I’ll wait for her to clear her head.”
Lu Yijiang was stunned, covering her mouth. “What did you say?”
“I can’t reach Fu Shuang anymore. She’s blocked me. If she contacts you, please tell her I’ll wait for her. I’ll wait until she’s thought things through, until she’s ready to marry me. Tell her to contact me whenever she’s ready.”
Xu Qing’s clear, black-and-white eyes met Lu Yijiang’s gaze, her piercing stare making the woman shiver involuntarily.
“Will you relay my message?” Xu Qing asked.
“I will, I promise I’ll tell her you came,” Lu Yijiang swallowed hard. “Won’t you come inside and sit down?”
In the shadows beneath the corridor, a girl with braided hair was staring intently at Xu Qing, her gaze unwavering.
Xu Qing glanced at her, then looked back at Lu Yijiang. “I’ll visit again tomorrow, and every day until she appears.”
