Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 11
After several unsuccessful visits to the Fu Family, Fu Hengxi, at his wit’s end, complained to Xu Qing, “Fu Shuang has been rebellious since she was a child, not like a normal Omega. It’s all her mother’s fault for spoiling her and failing to discipline her properly.”
Lu Yijiang chimed in with feigned concern, “Could there be something wrong with Shuangshuang’s mind? We should have taken her to the hospital for a checkup sooner.”
Dressed in a floral dress with a high slit, she perched on the armrest of the sofa, smoothing her newly permed curls with delicate, pale hands. Even when ignored, she maintained the air of a caring elder.
Fu Hengxi glared at her, unable to hold back his frustration. “You want to take her to the hospital? As if she’d listen to you! She doesn’t even listen to me!”
Xu Qing took a sip of tea and said, “Since she’s not ready to come back yet, I’ll try again tomorrow.”
“Miss Xu, why put yourself through this?” Lu Yijiang persisted, her tone patronizing. “Forcing things never works out. Even if you marry such a rebellious girl, you’ll never be happy. Who wouldn’t want a docile, obedient wife?” She continued, “We admit we failed to reason with Fu Shuang properly, but what can we do now? Are we supposed to break her legs and deliver her to your doorstep?”
Xu Qing frowned. “That’s not what I meant.”
“We know,” Lu Yijiang said with a smile. “But you come here every day, and we’re running out of ideas… How about we hire some people to bring Shuangshuang back?”
Xu Qing’s face darkened. Fu Hengxi, showing no mercy, kicked Lu Yijiang. “Shut your foul mouth, you b1tch!”
Lu Yijiang yelped in pain, dodging to the side and glaring at Fu Hengxi. “I was just joking! Why are you getting so angry?”
Fu Hengxi snorted. “You ignore what you should be handling and meddle in what’s none of your business. Get lost!”
Whether the two were putting on an act or not, Lu Yijiang took the verbal lashing without retaliating. She merely grumbled a few times, wiggled her hips, and got up to leave.
Fu Hengxi offered Xu Qing a cigarette. “Xiao Xu, let me be honest with you. I’ve already given up on my daughter.”
Xu Qing was slightly taken aback and didn’t accept the cigarette.
Fu Hengxi placed the cigarette on the coffee table and smiled. “It’s shameful to admit, but if you’d met Fu Shuang and understood her personality, you’d understand why I feel this way.”
Xu Qing replied, “How can a parent ever give up on their child?”
“But she’s already an adult,” Fu Hengxi said, puffing on his cigarette. He lit it with a gold lighter, leaned back against the sofa, and exhaled. “I arranged the best possible match for her—you. But she doesn’t appreciate it, doesn’t take it seriously. What else can I do?”
Xu Qingmo remained silent. Fu Hengxi flicked the ash from his cigarette and lowered his head. “Besides, this marriage was actually her mother’s dying wish. If she doesn’t even respect her parents’ final wishes, what hope is there for her?”
Xu Qing swallowed hard. “Maybe I can save her.”
Fu Hengxi chuckled, a glint of shrewdness flashing in his eyes. “Let me give you some advice, young man, from someone who’s been there. Choosing a wife is the most important decision of your life. Marry well, and you’ll live a life of wealth and honor. Marry poorly, and you’ll be miserable forever. Fu Shuang is simply not worthy of someone as talented and handsome as you.”
As he spoke, a short-haired girl in a black-and-white maid’s uniform entered, carrying snacks and fruit. She bent down to place a basket of delicate cookies and cherries in front of Xu Qingmo, then smiled at him as she straightened up.
Xu Qing recognized her. She had met her during her first visit to the Fu Family mansion. Back then, the girl had made a face at her, leading Xu Qing to suspect she might be the Young Miss Fu Shuang herself. Later, she had guessed the girl was a relative’s child. But now… she was a maid?
The Fu Family truly lived up to their reputation as the wealthy elite, even their maids were impeccably dressed:
Platform shoes, white lace stockings, a voluminous three-tiered skirt, a metallic choker around her neck, and even the bow on her headband exuded an air of sophistication.
Xu Qing had no intention of lingering at the Fu residence. She quickly stood up and said, “No need, I must be going.”
As soon as she rose, a sudden wave of dizziness washed over her. Her vision blurred, and she stumbled sideways, her head feeling heavy and her legs unsteady.
At first, she thought she could regain her balance, but it wasn’t until she knocked over a plate of cookies that she realized her body was completely unresponsive.
The overwhelming Omega pheromones nearly drove her to the brink of losing control. When she regained her senses, she found herself lying in the maid’s arms.
Xu Qing startled, but her body remained limp against the other woman. The intoxicating fragrance in the air made her bl00d rush, and her breathing grew rapid and ragged.
The ceiling had transformed, and the surface beneath her had become a soft bed. Glancing sideways, she saw antique circular stained-glass windows casting vibrant patterns of light and shadow across the room. The layout and decor unmistakably marked it as the bedroom of a wealthy family.
Seeing her awaken, the maid flashed a playful smile and raised a finger to her lips in a “shush” gesture.
“How’s it going? Is it working?” Lu Yijiang’s voice echoed through the room.
“Of course,” the maid replied, her voice pleasant and distinctive, carrying a hint of sea salt—refreshingly sweet and salty. She glanced smugly at Lu Yijiang and said with a smile, “If Sister Shuang knew her marriage partner was this beautiful, she’d be kicking herself.”
“You little rascal, you’re getting off easy,” Lu Yijiang chuckled, closing the door behind them.
Xu Qing had no idea what had transpired during her brief unconsciousness. Judging by the current situation, the Fu Family had likely used some trick against her.
Was it the tea they gave me earlier?
Only after Lu Yijiang’s high-heeled footsteps faded down the corridor did Xu Qing speak. “You lied to her. You’re not actually confident about your pheromones.”
The maid propped herself up on an elbow, her smile fading slightly. “Aren’t you scared, Sister Xu?”
“Feel my gland,” Xu Qing said calmly, meeting her gaze. “It doesn’t seem to be reacting.”
The maid reached out, her warm palm pressing against Xu Qing’s nape, feeling the pulse of the arteries. But she detected no agitation from Alpha pheromones.
“The timing’s off,” Xu Qing said, gazing at the ceiling. Her eyes were bright and clear, but her expression remained blank, giving her a somewhat vacant look. “If this had happened a week earlier, before all this mess, I definitely would have reacted to you.”
The maid’s stiff expression softened into amusement. She chuckled softly, “Are you trying to comfort me?”
“Maybe,” Xu Qing replied. “I don’t want you to doubt your own pheromones later.”
“You’re such a good person,” the maid said, rolling over in bed and sitting up. “I really don’t understand. You’ve never even met Sister Shuang. Why are you so determined to marry her?”
Xu Qing tilted her head, glancing at her. “I don’t know either.”
The maid burst into laughter. In truth, she was barely out of her teens, perhaps just turned twenty, and her playful nature far outweighed any ambition. She approached the Fu Family’s assignment with pure amusement, content whether it succeeded or failed.
If Lu Haoze and Lu Haoming hadn’t been too young and uncontrollable, one of them might have been lying beside Xu Qing right now.
Her laughter grew too loud, forcing Xu Qing to glance at her and gesture for silence.
The girl sobered up, lowering her voice and adopting a sympathetic tone. “Sister Xu, will you come again?”
Xu Qing thought for a moment. “Now that things have escalated this far, wouldn’t it be wrong of me not to come?”
“They were in the wrong to begin with. Why should you bother with moral principles?” The girl rested her chin in her hand, smiling slyly. “Unless you want to be the sucker who marries me.”
“How old are you?” Xu Qing asked.
“Seven days shy of eighteen, but the age of consent for Omegas is sixteen,” the girl said, lifting her stocking to reveal her thigh. “Sister Xu, want to try?”
Xu Qing had no interest in minors. The last flicker of passion was extinguished by the girl’s true age.
Thank goodness I kept my wits about me earlier. One wrong step could have led to eternal regret.
Seeing Xu Qing turn away, the girl sighed, pulled a pack of cigarettes from the bedside table, and lit one for herself.
“Give me one,” Xu Qing said, sitting up slightly and taking the cigarette the girl offered.
The girl eagerly lit it for her.
About five minutes later, the drug’s effects wore off, and Xu Qing regained her strength.
Before leaving, she nodded to the girl. “I’m leaving now.”
“Let’s exchange contact information,” the girl said, tossing her second cigarette and standing up with a smile. “I’ll contact you immediately if I hear anything about Sister You Shuang.”
Xu Qing replied, “No need. You don’t seem very close to her.”
The girl froze, her smile fading as she watched Xu Qing leave the room, her expression gradually turning cold and distant.
Xu Qing exited the bedroom, ignoring the greetings of others, and headed straight to her car. She drove out of the Fu Family compound.
As she navigated the bustling city streets, Xu Qing began to feel the drug’s side effects. Her vision blurred, as if her retinas had been rubbed into frosted glass, and her hearing dulled, like after drinking too much alcohol. She barely reacted to the cacophony of honking horns around her.
Beep—beep—beep!
The car behind her nearly wore out its horn before Xu Qing realized the left-turn signal had turned green. Just as she started to move, a child on a bicycle, running a red light, darted directly toward her car.
Xu Qing slammed on the brakes. The car behind her rear-ended her, and she crashed violently into the deploying airbag, immediately losing consciousness.
The scene was chaotic. The young boy who had run the red light picked up his bicycle and fled in a hurry. Car after car, unaware of the situation, blocked the intersection. A young female teacher got out of her car to check on the wrecked vehicle and immediately called for an ambulance.
Noticing the car owner’s phone lying nearby with the screen still lit, she picked it up and dialed the first contact in the call history.
“Hello, do you know the owner of this phone? She’s been in a car accident at the Zijinghua Road intersection…”
After Fu Shuang hung up, her student, who had just finished playing a Chopin piece, smiled and asked, “Teacher, how was that?”
Fu Shuang smiled back. “Much better. Your rhythm was more accurate than last time.”
The hourly rate for piano lessons was 300 yuan per hour. Fu Shuang had already agreed with the parents to teach for five hours today, earning her 1500 yuan.
She tried to forget about the phone call, but her mind was already unsettled.
