Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 12
Fu Shuang absentmindedly offered some guidance to her student. As the student played the piece a second time, Fu Shuang checked the location of the Zijinghua Road intersection on her phone’s map… and was surprised to discover it was less than a kilometer from her residential community.
If she left now, she could reach the scene in just over ten minutes.
But in the event of a car accident, shouldn’t the authorities contact the victim’s closest relatives and friends—parents, family members, and so on?
What was Fu Shuang to her? They had only known each other for less than a week, and Fu Shuang still didn’t even know her name.
“Teacher? Teacher?”
The piano had been silent for a while, but Fu Shuang was still lost in thought about the phone call, so she didn’t immediately respond to her student’s voice.
“I have an urgent matter to attend to,” Fu Shuang said, standing up and bowing apologetically to her student with a wry smile. “I’m so sorry, Jiayan. Please practice on your own for now. I’ll return to teach you as soon as I’ve taken care of this.”
Jiayan beamed brightly. “No problem, Teacher! Go ahead and take care of things!”
Fu Shuang went to explain to the parent. “I’m truly sorry for the sudden departure. I wouldn’t leave like this unless it were absolutely urgent. My girlfriend was in a car accident, and her family isn’t here. I have to go see her.”
Jiayan’s Omega mother, a stay-at-home mom, immediately dropped what she was doing and volunteered, “I’ll drive you there!”
When Fu Shuang arrived at the intersection, traffic police and an ambulance had just arrived. She found Xu Qing unconscious at the accident site and followed her into the ambulance, holding her Alpha sister Wen Liang’s hand. Fu Shuang began calculating how to make her compensate for the 1,500 yuan she had lost that day.
Seeing the expensive car Wen Liang drove and knowing she owned multiple properties in the city, Fu Shuang figured the 1,500 yuan would be a trivial sum for her Alpha sister.
Throughout the ride, Fu Shuang held Wen Liang’s hand, feeling her occasional responses. Eventually, she wrapped both hands around Wen Liang’s hand, whispering soothing words beside her:
“I’m here, Sister. You’ll be okay.”
“It’s me, Lulu. I’ll stay with you.”
“Don’t worry. I’m always here.”
Before her mother passed away, Fu Shuang had stayed by her side day and night. During that time, her mother rarely responded, but Fu Shuang remained steadfast.
By then, she had already decided to betray her mother.
Making her mother more comfortable in her final moments was the only compensation Fu Shuang could offer.
This society was rife with discrimination and injustice against Omegas. Fu Shuang wanted to live independently through her own efforts, refusing to burden anyone. She had no ties to anyone.
Even if it meant working harder, it would be worth it.
The ambulance rushed them to the nearest hospital. After a basic examination, the emergency room doctor ordered a CT scan. The final diagnosis: mild concussion.
When Xu Qing woke up in the hospital, her greatest fear was that her parents would find out about the car accident. She’d inevitably face a scolding and worry Madam Min, whose health was already fragile and who was still hospitalized.
Sitting up in bed, Xu Qing removed the IV drip and asked the nurse at the adjacent bed, “Excuse me, I…”
“You’re awake!” The nurse called out excitedly to a girl chatting with someone by a nearby bed. “Lulu, your girlfriend’s awake!”
Xu Qing: “……”
Two beds away, Fu Shuang, who had just been called over by an older woman to eat fruit, turned her head at the sound and met Xu Qing’s shocked gaze.
The two women stood awkwardly speechless. The older woman warmly handed Fu Shuang a banana. “Take some for your girlfriend too. Go on.”
Under the watchful eyes of the group, Fu Shuang walked over with a large bunch of bananas, a slightly bashful smile on her face. She tucked a stray curl behind her ear and said sweetly, “Darling, you’re awake.”
Hearing the girl’s affectionate “darling,” the nurses and patients watching from their beds collectively let out a chorus of “Oohs.”
Xu Qing felt the medication that had seemed ineffective earlier suddenly begin to work.
She hastily averted her gaze, scanning the room before muttering under her breath, “What are you doing here?”
Across the two beds, the older woman answered for Fu Shuang. “Your girlfriend has been by your side ever since you were taken out of the ambulance, dear. Cherish her—she’s a good girl.”
Xu Qing coughed violently, nearly losing herself in the chorus of “girlfriend” echoing around her.
She didn’t dare imagine how happy she would be if Lulu really were her girlfriend.
Xu Qing remained silent, and the elderly woman continued her stream of chatter: “Women understand how to care for each other. Lulu even peeled apples for me! My own children haven’t visited much since I was hospitalized, and the fruit they brought is nearly rotten. They even asked why I wasn’t eating it! If I could peel apples myself, would I let them go to waste?”
The woman raised her bandaged hand and beamed at Xu Qing. “Child, you’re truly blessed. If Lulu weren’t so devoted to you, I’d want her as my daughter-in-law!”
Xu Qing glanced at Fu Shuang, who blushed and said awkwardly, “Auntie, please don’t tease me like that. It’s not as dramatic as you make it sound. If you’re feeling lonely in the hospital, you can call me anytime. I’ll make time to visit.”
The woman waved her hand dismissively, her tone final. “No need, dear. Your kindness is enough.”
Xu Qing hadn’t spoken much. Fu Shuang pressed a hand to her forehead, asking with concern, “How are you feeling?”
Xu Qing remembered those cool hands holding hers while she was unconscious. She murmured to herself, “I’m fine. Don’t you have work today?”
“I took the day off,” Fu Shuang smiled. “I got a call about your car accident, so I came to be with you. Oh, here’s your diagnosis report. Since they couldn’t find your ID, I used mine to register you.”
Xu Qing took the report and saw the name “Bai Lu” listed, with an age of 19.
After quickly glancing at the medical notes, Xu Qing asked, “Did you pay the bill for me?”
“Yes,” Fu Shuang replied with an embarrassed smile. “The hospital requires payment before treatment. I’ll send you the bill later.”
“Okay, I’ll transfer the money to you soon.”
“No rush.”
Xu Qing folded the report, lowered her gaze, cleared her throat, and said, “I’m truly grateful to you. Really, it’s so lucky I called you.”
Heaven knows how desperately Xu Qing wanted to avoid facing her family right now.
The Fu Family had set a trap for her, clearly determined to go all-in. They were exploiting Xu Qing’s kindness and sense of responsibility by using an underage female Omega to replace Fu Shuang in their arranged marriage.
Xu Qing’s worldview had been shattered by the Fu Family’s outrageous scheme. To be honest, she didn’t believe she was valuable enough for them to go to such lengths. But now that things had escalated this far, what options did she have left?
Gazing at the Omega woman who had conveniently appeared by her side, Xu Qing felt a complex mix of emotions.
If she could, she wanted to bring Lulu before her family and lay everything bare. If they were already a fait accompli, what reason would her parents have to oppose her free choice in love?
“Sister, it’s a miracle you’re okay,” Fu Shuang said, sitting on the edge of the hospital bed with a bowl of fruit. She picked up a banana and asked, “Want a banana? I’ll peel it for you.”
The surrounding people chuckled and teased, but Xu Qing remained expressionless as a wooden statue, only managing a curt “Okay.”
Fu Shuang started peeling the banana from the bottom, a method that often made her hands sticky and caused the fruit to break halfway through. Yet she seemed oblivious to her amateur technique, even tearing the peel all the way down to the tip.
Seeing the banana about to snap in half, Xu Qing swiftly reached out to steady it. Fu Shuang’s eyes widened as she exclaimed, “That was close!”
Xu Qing stared at the mangled banana in her hand, then glanced at the middle-aged woman in the next bed, wondering, Can she really peel an apple?
The woman chuckled, slapping her thigh. “Lulu, you should peel bananas from the stem end.”
See? Even she knows, Xu Qing thought.
Fu Shuang grinned, baring her teeth. “Really? I thought it didn’t matter.”
It was clear the woman had taken an instant liking to Fu Shuang. Who wouldn’t be charmed by such a pure and kind-hearted girl?
Xu Qing felt a pang of guilt for her earlier, presumptuous thoughts. The discomfort in her heart made it hard to even swallow the banana.
The cramped hospital room held six beds. While a couple were curtained off, their occupants preferring solitude, the other patients chatted cheerfully, creating a lively atmosphere.
With no chairs available, Fu Shuang sat on Xu Qing’s bed. When standing, her skirt covered her knees, but sitting down, it barely reached mid-thigh, leaving her slender, pale legs exposed—so beautiful it was almost too much to look at.
After Xu Qing finished the pitiful banana, Fu Shuang hopped off the bed, gathered the peel, and tossed it into the trash.
The creases pressed into Fu Shuang’s skirt made the hem stick out like an out-of-place weed in a rose garden. Xu Qing couldn’t resist the urge to smooth it down, but her hand froze mid-reach beside Fu Shuang’s thigh.
As if sensing her intent, Fu Shuang swiftly took a half-step back, her eyes widening. “What is it?”
Xu Qing hadn’t expected her to be so alert. Her outstretched hand now felt like evidence of some illicit act. Before she could explain, the older woman chimed in, “Aiya, your girlfriend wants to touch your leg! Let her! Who told you to have such long, beautiful legs anyway?”
Xu Qing: !!!
Before she could protest, Xu Qing glanced up at Fu Shuang and watched her fair cheeks suddenly flush crimson. Gritting her teeth, Xu Qing muttered, “I didn’t mean it like that…”
The older woman chuckled. “Oh, but I saw it! Lulu’s legs are so gorgeous, I’d want to touch them too!”
Fu Shuang froze like a wooden doll.
Xu Qing forced a dry laugh, her mouth running away with her. “Well, yeah, I guess so. I’ll touch them at home.”
She’d meant to say “We’ll talk about it at home,” but somehow the older woman’s teasing had twisted her words into “I’ll touch them at home.”
Xu Qing couldn’t bear to meet Fu Shuang’s gaze. She knew it must be the look one reserves for a pervert.
