Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 13
After leaving the hospital, Fu Shuang still seemed a bit awkward, her mind blank as if lost in thought.
Xu Qing apologized for her earlier slip of the tongue. “I misspoke earlier. Please don’t overthink it. I didn’t mean it that way.”
Fu Shuang, wearing a white chiffon blouse and a small crossbody bag, unconsciously tugged at the strap, the strap pressing against her chest to accentuate her curves. She barely reacted to Xu Qing’s words, only turning her head after a long pause with a confused “Huh?”
Judging by her reaction, she doesn’t seem to care at all about my mistake earlier.
That makes sense. She’s already publicly declared us as a couple and casually calls me “dear.” Why would she care about such a trivial slip-up?
It’s me who’s still hung up on it, making me look like I’m being overly sentimental.
Xu Qing chuckled softly. “It’s nothing.”
Fu Shuang nodded absently, looking somewhat restless.
Xu Qing then said, “I’ll add you on WeChat to transfer the money. I’ll also compensate you for the wages you lost by taking time off work.”
Perhaps hearing about money finally caught her attention. Fu Shuang’s distracted eyes lit up. “It’s 2,500 yuan in total. 1,000 yuan is for the lost wages from taking leave.”
Xu Qing froze, her phone suspended in mid-air. “How… how could it be so much?” How could a regular office worker earning just two hundred yuan a day possibly afford this?!
Fu Shuang pulled her phone from her small bag, opened WeChat, and tapped “My QR Code.” She held the phone out to Xu Qing, her expression now much brighter than before.
Xu Qing eyed her skeptically. “You… you make a thousand a day?”
“Just on weekends when business is good!” Fu Shuang grinned. “It’s usually even more than that!”
Her words sounded genuine, but what kind of business could it be?
Xu Qing glanced at her, recalling Fu Shuang’s previous job as a singer at a bar. Could she still be doing that?
It wasn’t about professional prejudice, but given what had happened last time, Xu Qing couldn’t shake her unease.
Unable to suppress her curiosity, Xu Qing scanned Fu Shuang’s WeChat QR code and blurted out, “You’re not still working at the bar, are you?”
“No, I’m not.” Fu Shuang tapped her phone, accepted the friend request, added “Landlord” as a note, and sent Xu Qing a “peeking cat” emoji.
Xu Qing was charmed by the GIF and asked with a smile, “Is your profile picture Koala when she was little?”
“Yes,” Fu Shuang replied mechanically, as if returning a courtesy. “What does your profile picture mean, Sister?”
Xu Qing’s profile picture showed a long staircase leading to endless clouds. It was the final scene from the movie The Truman Show, the scene the protagonist sees after gaining his freedom.
But even if she explained it was from a movie, how would an Omega so immersed in her own world react? She wouldn’t be interested.
“Just a random picture I found online. It doesn’t mean anything.”
In truth, she had changed her profile picture the day after receiving the news of her engagement being called off. Perhaps she had intended to make a small act of defiance against the world, but who would understand such a trivial sentiment?
As she answered, she transferred 2,500 yuan to Fu Shuang.
As expected, Fu Shuang showed no interest in her explanation. The moment she heard the notification sound of the transfer, her face lit up. She happily accepted the money and said sweetly, “Thank you, Sister.”
That damned little money-grubbing Omega.
Calling me “Sister” at every turn, yet she doesn’t even care what my name is.
Xu Qing gave Fu Shuang a meaningful look and asked, “Where are you going next?”
Standing at the hospital entrance, Fu Shuang glanced at the still-early sky and replied, “I don’t know. Maybe I’ll go back to work!”
While she admired Fu Shuang’s dedication, Xu Qing couldn’t help but feel annoyed. Fu Shuang had just received compensation for her time off, yet she was already planning to return to work and earn money from both sources. Isn’t that a bit greedy?
Despite her growing dissatisfaction, Xu Qing said calmly, “Alright, I won’t see you off then. I need to handle the traffic accident.”
Seeing they were headed in the same direction, Fu Shuang followed her and said, “Sister, I’m going that way too! Let’s go together!”
With that, Fu Shuang hailed a taxi, opened the back door, and gestured for Xu Qing to get in first. She slid in beside Xu Qing, maintaining her usual carefree demeanor. As she chatted on her phone, she asked, “Sister, I heard you were rear-ended because you swerved to avoid hitting a child who ran a red light. How old was the kid?”
Recalling the incident and comparing the child’s size to the two teenagers in the Fu family, Xu Qing replied, “Around twelve or thirteen. Not too young. Why are you asking?”
“I just want to know how they’re handling this,” Fu Shuang said. “I heard the kid ran away right after it happened. Kids these days have no sense of responsibility—they’re complete social degenerates!”
Xu Qing was startled by the word “degenerate.” Following her principle of minimizing trouble, she tried to excuse the child: “Maybe it was his first mistake. As long as he’s okay, the car damage doesn’t matter. Insurance will cover it.”
Fu Shuang shook her head, staring intently at her phone screen.
After a moment, she asked, “Does the car have a dashcam?”
Seeing Fu Shuang’s determined pursuit, Xu Qing couldn’t help but chuckle. “What are you planning to do?”
“Find that kid and give him a proper ‘education’,” Fu Shuang said, stroking her chin thoughtfully.
Xu Qing’s life motto had always been “less trouble is better.” She wanted to advise Fu Shuang to stay out of it, but seeing her earnest, competitive spirit, she reconsidered.
At least she cares about me in this situation.
Maybe I should just let her handle it.
“Okay,” Xu Qing said. “I’ll send you the video as soon as I get it.”
Fu Shuang nodded slightly and continued texting her friends.
The taxi dropped Xu Qing off at the accident site before taking Fu Shuang to Jiayan’s residential community.
They arrived just in time for dinner. Jiayan’s mother warmly invited Fu Shuang to join them, and she gladly accepted.
The family of three enjoyed a hearty meal of three dishes and a soup. Jiayan’s mother juggled disciplining her children with preparing three meals a day for the family—a typical portrait of a full-time Omega in modern society.
The woman enthusiastically served Fu Shuang, who praised her cooking effusively. As they chatted amiably, Jiayan’s mother asked about the car accident. Fu Shuang explained the general situation.
“Kids these days are always getting into trouble,” Jiayan’s mother said with a sympathetic expression. “Riding bikes and running red lights—they really put your girlfriend through the wringer.”
“Exactly,” Fu Shuang said, her voice tinged with sadness. “Not only was the car badly damaged, but she was seriously injured too. And we can’t even find the person responsible.”
“There’s nothing you can do in situations like this,” Jiayan’s taciturn father chimed in. “You just have to accept your bad luck. At least the insurance will cover the damages, and no one died. That’s what really matters.”
Fu Shuang couldn’t accept this fatalistic view. She was determined to track down the pest. Since the boy had been riding his bike in the area, he likely lived in one of the nearby communities. With her frequent visits to teach classes here, Fu Shuang knew she’d have plenty of opportunities to catch him.
Perhaps Omegas understood each other better. After a moment of silence, Jiayan’s mother asked, “How old was the child?”
“A boy of twelve or thirteen,” Fu Shuang replied.
“That’s about Jiayan’s age,” Jiayan’s mother said with a smile. “I’ll ask around and see if I can find out which family he belongs to. Maybe we can help you track him down.”
“That would be wonderful,” Fu Shuang said in a soft voice. “We really need to find him and give him a proper scolding. If he makes the same mistake again, he might not be so lucky next time.”
Even Jiayan’s father nodded in agreement.
After dinner, Fu Shuang practiced piano with Jiayan for an hour. Just then, Xu Qing sent over a video. Fu Shuang showed it to Jiayan’s mother, who immediately recognized the boy.
“…Isn’t that Lao Li’s grandson?”
“That kid’s been a troublemaker since he was little,” Jiayan’s mother explained. “His parents work out of town, and his grandparents spoil him rotten. The old couple probably has no idea what he’s been up to.”
Fu Shuang sighed, feeling a pang of sympathy. “…A left-behind child, huh?”
Jiayan’s mother winked and whispered, “Those old folks’ retirement pensions are higher than what most young people earn these days. They buy their grandson everything he wants—he gets whatever he asks for…”
Fu Shuang rubbed her hands together eagerly. “Where do they live?”
Exhausted after handling the traffic accident, Xu Qing returned to her apartment.
As she pushed open the door, Koala leaped off the sofa and rubbed against her ankles, meowing enthusiastically.
Xu Qing still hadn’t quite adjusted to the sudden addition of a cat and a beautiful Omega to her household.
The living room was brightly lit, but the sofa and coffee table were strewn with clothes, bags, notebooks, and snacks. Even the shoes by the door were scattered haphazardly.
Xu Qing changed her shoes, too tired to bother straightening them. Instead, she picked up Koala and settled onto the carpet, leaning against the sofa.
Just as she was enjoying petting Koala, the bathroom door creaked open, and the shuffling sound of slippers approached. Xu Qing looked up, nearly getting a nosebleed from the unexpected sight.
