Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 16
Xu Qing’s life dilemmas couldn’t possibly be resolved by a consultation that came free with a plate of grilled skewers. Yet, compared to her previous confusion, she now had a clearer sense of direction.
She had witnessed how her Omega sister handled problems—her directness, her refusal to accept what she disliked or didn’t want, and her relentless pursuit of compensation. This approach struck Xu Qing like a thunderbolt, leaving her deeply shaken.
She finally realized she had been confined for too long, constantly playing the perfect role in others’ eyes: the perfect child at home, the perfect subordinate at work, and even the “perfect son-in-law” in the Fu Family.
What was the point?
Life was only a few decades long. If she spent it living for others, why bother coming into this world to suffer?
Her mind was already made up; the so-called “life consultation” was merely an opportunity to confide in someone.
Yes, Xu Qing hadn’t confided in anyone for far too long.
Fu Shuang took a tiny bite of the peeled shrimp meat, her grip on the chopsticks slightly awkward but utterly endearing to Xu Qing.
Even the way she ate was so graceful. If the meaning of marriage were simply sharing daily meals and companionship, Xu Qing would marry a woman like her without hesitation.
But the age gap between them seemed too wide. Xu Qing had turned twenty-six this summer, while Fu Shuang had only just come of age, a time when she should be enjoying the prime of her youth, not worrying about the messy business of marriage.
“Life counseling—what exactly does that mean?” Fu Shuang waited a moment, then asked urgently when Xu Qing didn’t speak. “Did something happen?”
Xu Qing smiled. “Actually, yes. I’ve been dealing with some awful people lately.”
“What kind of awful people? Can you get rid of them?” Fu Shuang wiped the corner of her mouth, her eyes burning with concern as she offered enthusiastically, “If not, just pay someone to beat them up—as long as there’s no evidence, right? If you need… I can recommend someone I know…”
“It hasn’t come to that yet,” Xu Qing quickly stopped this impulsive vigilante, amusement dancing in her eyes. “Though it hasn’t escalated to violence, it’s definitely time to strike back.”
“If you need any help, just ask,” Fu Shuang said, pointing at herself with a raised thumb. “I may not be good at much else, but I’m definitely good at arguing.”
Xu Qing couldn’t help but chuckle. “Really? You seem so well-behaved.”
Fu Shuang bit off a piece of meat, her cheeks puffing out as she spoke. “If a good friend is in trouble and I can’t help, I’d feel terrible. And if it’s arguing with bad people, I’ll definitely give it my all!”
Watching her deliver such assertive words in such a serious, well-behaved tone, Xu Qing couldn’t help but wonder what Fu Shuang’s arguments were actually like.
Could it be that she wins just because she’s so cute that her opponents give up in advance?
She couldn’t voice such thoughts, lest she offend her Omega sister. Instead, Xu Qing said earnestly, “You definitely look like a natural at arguing.”
Fu Shuang eyed her skeptically.
Why does this compliment feel a bit insincere?
She didn’t dwell on it, but instead said worriedly to Xu Qing, “Older Sister, you seem like such a good person, with such a kind nature. You’re too tolerant of others, which is why they’re shamelessly stepping all over you. If you don’t show them who’s boss, they’ll only get worse in the future!”
“You’re absolutely right. Here’s another shrimp for you as a reward—”
Xu Qing said, offering a peeled shrimp to Fu Shuang’s lips.
The young woman’s lips were translucent and moist, their pale color accentuated by a pearly sheen on her cupid’s bow. Usually painted with orange-toned lipstick, they looked playful and charming. But now, without makeup, her lips resembled the tender petals of a budding rose. Xu Qing couldn’t help but marvel at their delicate beauty.
As she held the shrimp between her thumb and forefinger, about to withdraw, Fu Shuang suddenly took it into her mouth.
Warm lips enveloped Xu Qing’s finger, like a snake slowly shedding its skin in a humid burrow. Fu Shuang’s lips parted from her hand, savoring the freshly grilled shrimp.
Xu Qing’s bl00d surged through her veins. She stiffly withdrew her hand and frantically began peeling another shrimp.
The lingering sensation of Fu Shuang’s lips on her fingertips was a peculiar delight that Xu Qing couldn’t stop replaying in her mind.
“Delicious,” Fu Shuang murmured, completely absorbed in the natural flavors of the food. She didn’t notice the momentary panic in Xu Qing’s eyes as she nodded appreciatively. “This barbecue place is great. We should come here more often when we have time.”
After sharing several meals with Fu Shuang, Xu Qing gradually noticed her eating habits. She didn’t just eat small portions; she took only a few bites of each dish and ate incredibly slowly. Even when Xu Qing deliberately slowed her pace to half speed, she couldn’t outpace Fu Shuang.
“Let’s come here often when we have time” meant they would be spending a lot of time wasting on meals together.
It sounded almost like a sweet love confession.
That night, they slept in separate bedrooms. Xu Qing fell asleep almost immediately after getting into bed. The next morning, she saw Fu Shuang’s slippers by the door, confirming she had already left for work.
Xu Qing continued to commute by motorcycle, parking it at a distant intersection to avoid fines.
By mid-morning, her small office was crowded with people.
“Xiao Xu, I heard you got your engagement called off. Is that true?” The female leader from the neighboring department, who normally never interacted with Xu Qing, had rushed over at the first whiff of gossip.
“Why? Was it because you’re a woman?”
“What’s wrong with being a Female Alpha? It’s not like you can’t have children. What’s wrong with people these days?”
“To be honest, in the current marriage market, Female Alphas just aren’t as valued as Male Alphas, especially younger women. If they have a choice, they’ll definitely pick the more charismatic Male Alpha. I have a relative’s child who’s like that—always entangled with multiple Male Alphas.”
“Sigh, that’s just how Omegas are. They’ll come running at the slightest invitation, no self-control whatsoever.”
“My sister’s child is a Beta, but they’re well-rounded and have good prospects. I’ll introduce them to you sometime, okay?”
Perhaps because Xu Qingfeng had a good reputation, only a few people came to mock her after the engagement was called off. Instead, she was bombarded with matchmaking offers.
Objectively speaking, Xu Qing’s qualifications made her a desirable match for these veteran employees within the system. She was young, capable, and her family included a high-ranking official who hadn’t yet retired. With a little strategic maneuvering, she would inevitably be promoted to a key leadership position.
Therefore, the broken engagement was actually a blessing in disguise—a valuable resource that others were eager to claim.
Caught off guard, Xu Qing replied uniformly, “I already have someone I like. I want to pursue her first.”
That evening, when she returned to her parents’ upscale residential community, the Fu Family was already waiting for her.
Among the visitors was the underage Omega girl who had shared a bed with Xu Qing last time. She sat in the middle of the sofa, flanked by Lu Yijiang and another middle-aged woman. Fu Hengxi, meanwhile, sat on a separate leather armchair, his legs crossed, holding a cigarette as he chatted with Xu Kai.
Lu Yijiang wore a forced smile, while Min Se, sitting opposite her, looked livid, her hands clasped on her knees, as if she might faint from anger at any moment.
Aunt Liu, the housekeeper, opened the door for Xu Qing, took her helmet and laptop bag, and whispered a warning: “Miss, your mother already lost her temper once earlier. Be careful.”
Xu Qing composed her expression, changed her shoes, and stepped inside, asking, “Why is it so lively here today?”
This opening line was completely inappropriate! Aunt Liu nearly blacked out from shock.
Has Xu Qing gone mad?
As expected, Min Se’s bl00d pressure began to spike the moment Xu Qing spoke.
“Kneel!” Min Se stood up and barked at Xu Qing.
The imposing aura silenced everyone in the room. Lu Yijiang covered her mouth, glancing at Min Se and secretly pondering how to acquire Madam Xu’s formidable presence. Xu Kai and Fu Hengxi, the two older gentlemen, continued sipping their tea, adopting a leisurely attitude as if family matters were best left to the women.
Xu Qing stepped before Min Se, her spine ramrod straight and face impassive. “Mom, can you explain why? With so many people here, aren’t you concerned about my dignity?”
Tall and slender at 1.75 meters, Xu Qing stood before Min Se with a certain poise. Yet even so, when Min Se’s palm struck her, Xu Qing nearly lost her balance, staggering sideways with a ringing in her ears.
A gasp rippled through the room. Xu Qing turned toward the sound, spotting her naive Omega sister covering her face, guiltily closing her eyes.
Apart from her sister, none of the others in the room seemed to genuinely care about her.
Despite Xu Qing having been in a car accident just yesterday, suffering a concussion and spending half the day in the hospital, despite her having done nothing wrong, all the blame was being directed at her, forcing her to bear the full consequences.
Even an Omega sister she’d met by chance would stand up for her. But what about her own family, the people she cared about most? What did they truly see her as?
If they didn’t love her, they could have chosen not to have her.
Her concussion hadn’t fully healed, and the slap blurred her vision again. Bl00d trickled from her split lip.
Aunt Liu steadied Xu Qing, her heart aching. “Madam, please calm down. You just got out of the hospital. You shouldn’t be getting so worked up.”
Lu Yijiang feigned concern, trying to restrain Min Se. “Madam Xu, there’s no need for this. Let’s talk things through calmly.”
Min Se’s palm was red and swollen from the slap, and she was breathless from the exertion. Her bloodshot eyes glared at Xu Qing as she hissed, “Kneel.”
Xu Qing had never endured such humiliation in her life. She wanted to retort, but before she could speak, a crash echoed through the room. Xu Kai had smashed the teacup in his hand, his face contorted with rage. “I said kneel! Are you deaf?!”
