Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 20
Xu Qing rode her motorcycle through three red lights, reaching the subway station Fu Shuang had mentioned in just ten minutes.
Security personnel blocked the entrance, impatiently explaining to those trying to enter, “Don’t go in! The station is completely sealed off—only exits are allowed, no entry!”
“Don’t enter! Clear the way, clear the way! Make way for the police and medical personnel!”
Xu Qing was stopped outside, watching the panicked crowd fleeing from the exit. Someone collapsed, and people rushed over, shouting, “She’s an Omega! She’s in shock! Does anyone have an Omega Inhibitor nearby?”
“Does anyone have experience with marking?!”
The surrounding onlookers, reveling in the chaos, posted videos of the Omega’s distress on social media. The comments were uniformly hostile:
“Why do Omegas even need to take the subway? Can’t they just stay home? Every time there’s a social news story, it’s always because of these Omegas!”
“Seriously, if they just stayed home like they’re supposed to, we wouldn’t have to waste so many public resources on them when they cause trouble. If I were them, I’d just kill myself!”
“It’s not that I’m against Omegas using public transportation, but with the recent Geomagnetic Storm, even I’ve been feeling its effects. If they’d just check the news, they’d know they shouldn’t be out right now!”
“I really hate sitting next to Omegas on the subway. Being trapped in a confined space with their pheromones is unbearable.”
“Me too! Our company even has Omegas! I dread working with them!”
No one can truly empathize with another’s suffering. To them, Omegas writhing on the ground in agony during their heat cycles were nothing more than a joke—pitiful, yet deserving of their fate.
Despite the rhetoric of equality and freedom, and the opening of avenues for Omegas to participate in society, they remained victims of widespread discrimination. Beyond their reproductive value, most people saw them as burdensome liabilities requiring constant care.
After the police and paramedics entered, the security guards at the entrance joked about the incident’s cause:
“Looks like someone deliberately released pheromones in the car to cause panic.”
“Was it an Omega who did that?”
“Are you stupid? It was obviously an Alpha. Alphas outnumber Omegas, and some of them just want to stir up trouble.”
“Can they catch them and punish them?”
“There’s no way to investigate this. Even if we check the surveillance footage, we won’t be able to determine who deliberately released the pheromones. It’s impossible to manage. Honestly, it would be simpler to just ban Omegas from riding the subway in the future.”
Taking advantage of the security guard’s distraction, Xu Qing suddenly vaulted over the turnstile and sprinted toward the crowd.
“Hey!”
“Someone’s forcing their way through! Stop her!”
Xu Qing didn’t care about the consequences. She hurried down the stairs, bumping into several grumbling Betas along the way. She charged forward, taking multiple steps at a time, until she reached the back of the elevator. Several frightened young people were hiding there, their eyes lighting up like puppies when they saw her.
“I’m here!”
A clear voice rang out from the crowd behind her. Xu Qing whirled around, her gaze colliding with the Omega girl who was “dragging her family along.”
Sweat beaded on Fu Shuang’s forehead, a few stray strands of hair clinging to her damp skin. A faint blush tinted her cheeks, and her eyes seemed to hold the crushed silver of the Milky Way, tears shimmering like ripples in Xu Qing’s heart.
Xu Qing’s gaze seemed magnetically drawn to her, only tearing away after a moment to scan the vulnerable young people beside her. Noticing the vial of Omega Inhibitor in Fu Shuang’s hand, she immediately understood the situation.
“Are you alright?” Xu Qing’s voice was barely audible, as if afraid of frightening the vulnerable Omegas.
“We’ve run out of inhibitors. I—and the others—need to go to the hospital,” Fu Shuang said, sniffing and looking at Xu Qing with teary eyes. “Older Sister, come closer. Let me smell you.”
Xu Qing moved forward in a daze, her reactions dulled by the situation, especially under Fu Shuang’s unwavering gaze. If not for the taut thread of reason holding her back, Xu Qing might have impulsively embraced Fu Shuang and done something irrational.
The air was thick with various scents. Xu Qing stopped a meter away from Fu Shuang. “I brought inhibitors when I left. Hang in there. The doctors and police have already arrived.”
Fu Shuang nodded slightly. Among the young people, she was in the best condition—weak but still rational. The others, however, were acting as if they were high on drugs, barely registering Xu Qing’s words as they swarmed around her, sniffing and even trying to bite her.
“Hiss…”
Xu Qing shook her arm, shook off the clinging Omegas, and swiftly pulled out the inhibitor from her bag, spraying it haphazardly over the group.
Fu Shuang watched with a pang of distress. “This stuff is really expensive!” she reminded Xu Qing.
Expensive or not, what choice do we have?
Xu Qing tossed the remaining inhibitor to a female office worker, then strode ahead of Fu Shuang, took her hand, and pulled her toward the exit.
“Omegas are such a burden on society, a stumbling block to human progress,” Fu Shuang grumbled.
Even while escaping the subway, or even during a zombie apocalypse, Fu Shuang couldn’t resist criticizing the irrational social structures of their time.
Xu Qing glanced at her with a smile, half-praising, half-soothing. “Considering most Omegas have already lost their minds, the fact that you still have the energy to complain about this shows remarkable composure.”
Fu Shuang’s teary eyes were merely a facade. Only after Xu Qing’s reminder did she remember her act. Through her blurred vision, she caught the distinctive scent of pine that clung to Xu Qing, and in an instant, she went limp, leaning heavily against Xu Qing.
“I barely praised you, and you’re already wilting,” Xu Qing murmured, her gaze softening as she looked down at Fu Shuang. “Hang in there a little longer.”
The girl whimpered softly, a faint fragrance of mint and lemon suddenly piercing through the air like an assassin’s blade, slipping between bone and flesh. Xu Qing’s nerves buckled first, freezing her in place, caught completely off guard.
Subway stations were filled with AAOOs carelessly releasing pheromones, disregarding public safety. Any scent was commonplace, but what was extraordinary was the chemical substance that instantly overwhelmed Xu Qing.
Having lived abroad for several years, she had often caught faint whiffs of pheromones in public spaces. Yet those scents, like perfumes, had only mildly stimulated her vomeronasal organ, never triggering such an immediate physiological reaction.
If she had to explain it, this situation likely stemmed from an exceptionally high pheromone compatibility.
Sweat slicked Xu Qing’s palms as her knees suddenly buckled to the ground. Her rationality plummeted from its precarious tightrope, and she plunged into an abyss of darkness, her head spinning. Even maintaining a kneeling posture drained her remaining strength.
“Oh, I’m so sorry!” Fu Shuang, noticing her reaction, frantically administered a dose of inhibitor. “I was careless just now. Are you alright?”
Xu Qing took a long moment to recover. By the time the police and paramedics arrived, they mistakenly assumed she was the Omega in distress and rushed to check her vitals with a thermometer and bl00d tests.
Meanwhile, the genuine Omega, Fu Shuang, was being overlooked. She covered her mouth and nose with a napkin sprayed with inhibitor and asked anxiously, “How is she?”
The medical staff didn’t immediately answer Fu Shuang due to the delayed readings from their instruments. Xu Qing, supporting herself on her knees as she stood up, said with a wry smile, “I’m fine. I’m an Alpha.”
Xu Qing’s smartwatch flashed a high heart rate alert, matching the doctor’s readings. “Your heart rate and bl00d pressure are elevated. We recommend you go to the hospital for a sedative injection. Can you get there on your own?”
“Of course,” Xu Qing replied. “I told you, I’m an Alpha.”
“Alphas also have sensitive periods. We advise against pushing yourself. If you need assistance, contact our colleagues. I’ll check on the others now.”
Before Xu Qing could thank her, the nurse beside her suddenly had a wild idea. “Doctor! She’s an Alpha! We could have her help mark the out-of-control Omegas!”
Xu Qing’s eyes widened in shock.
The doctor didn’t immediately reject the idea. The nurse, recording notes on her tablet, asked, “Hello, what’s your name? Do you have a health certificate? Any experience with marking?”
Xu Qing stared at her weakly, suppressing a laugh. The female Omega beside her exploded, “Are you out of your fucking minds?! What kind of bizarre treatment is this? If any random person can solve the problem by marking them, what the hell do we need you people for?!”
This was the first time Xu Qing had ever seen Fu Shuang curse. The usually soft and gentle little white rabbit had suddenly transformed into a ferocious beast, capable of tearing flesh from her opponent—she was terrifyingly sharp!
Could this be her true nature?
The medical staff were left speechless by her verbal assault. Noticing Xu Qing’s shocked gaze, Fu Shuang immediately ceased her tirade, clearing her throat and straightening her spine.
“Y-you… Ms. Yuan, your condition seems… unstable,” the nurse stammered, aiming an infrared thermometer at Fu Shuang’s forehead. Before the reading could even register, she rushed to her conclusion: “Your emotions are highly erratic. Based on my experience, you urgently need inhibitors and sedatives. Of course, these won’t address the root cause. Do you have a regular partner? You should contact them immediately…”
The nurse’s words trailed off as Fu Shuang’s face flushed crimson, then paled, then flushed again with an unnatural heat. She dared not meet Xu Qing’s eyes, her mind racing with indignation: What business is it of yours whether I have a partner? Just as she was about to retort, a voice as soothing as a mountain breeze spoke from beside her: “She’s my… girlfriend.”
The nurse suddenly understood. No wonder the Omega beside the Female Alpha had been so angry when she asked for help—they were a couple.
Xu Qing smiled politely at the nurse and took Fu Shuang’s hand again. “We can take care of ourselves. You don’t need to worry about us. There are several Omegas over there who need assistance. From what I’ve heard, though they’re in rough shape, they don’t want strangers performing temporary markings. Two of them are even underage.”
The commotion quickly subsided, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals. The news barely covered the incident, and only a handful of local users discussed it on social media.
Leaving the crowded subway station and breathing in the city’s expansive air, Xu Qing finally regained her composure. Fu Shuang, too, had recovered considerably. She opened a pack of yogurt Xu Qing had bought and sipped it quietly through the straw, her unusual silence unsettling.
“She’s my girlfriend.”
Though Fu Shuang knew Xu Qing had only said it to get rid of those annoying people, the words fell on her heart like a soft feather—so light, so gentle, yet utterly impossible to ignore. She replayed them in her mind again and again, unable to resist the thought:
If only it were true.
