Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 23
Following the subway incident, numerous opinions and suggestions regarding Omega use of public transportation flooded the internet. These proposals often contradicted each other. For instance, one suggestion called for “prohibiting Omegas from riding the subway during peak hours,” while another advocated for “establishing Omega-only compartments and barring members of other genders from entering these designated areas.”
Online debates typically follow one of two patterns: either they are guided by media narratives, or they simply reflect which side has the most supporters. When examining human society as a whole, Omegas constitute only 10% of the population, Alphas 35%, and Betas the remaining majority. It’s clear that the voices representing Omega interests are the weakest and most easily overlooked.
“If they really ban Omegas from public transportation, how will you commute to work?” Xu Qing deliberately woke up early and got out of bed when she heard Fu Shuang getting up to wash. She asked the question casually, feigning disinterest.
“I don’t think it’ll come to that,” Fu Shuang replied, letting the water run from the faucet. After a moment, she added, “Still no hot water.”
Xu Qing tried to light the gas stove, confirming that the natural gas supply hadn’t been restored. She called the gas company, but no one answered—it was still before business hours.
“Well, there’s nothing we can do. At least the weather isn’t too cold!”
Fu Shuang emerged from her room with clean clothes, darting into the bathroom like a cat. She rustled as she undressed, then padded out in plastic slippers.
The bathroom door was half-open. Fu Shuang spotted Xu Qing brushing her teeth by the doorway. Peeking out from behind the door, she grinned, her eyes crinkling at the corners. “Older Sister!”
The bathroom’s frosted glass door, when viewed from a distance, effectively blocked most light and obscured the view. But when a nearly naked person pressed close to the glass, someone outside could see almost everything inside—
Just like Fu Shuang was doing now.
Through the hazy glass, Xu Qing caught a glimpse of Fu Shuang’s smooth shoulders, her partially covered chest, and her full curves, as beautiful as a Western oil painting—a work of art. Xu Qing’s gaze darted away, sweeping over Fu Shuang with feigned indifference. “What do you want?”
Completely unaware, Fu Shuang, thinking she had only revealed half her head, grinned and said, “I forgot my hair removal cream.”
Xu Qing: “……”
“You’re taking a cold shower, and you’re worried about that?” Xu Qing’s voice was sharp and cold. “What if you freeze to death?”
Fu Shuang winked, a gesture that sent a flicker of reaction through Xu Qing’s heart. Xu Qing subtly inhaled, hearing Fu Shuang plead miserably, “Please, my professional image is really important!”
Xu Qing turned away, muttering coolly, “You ask for favors way too easily.”
“It’s in the unopened package by the door!” Fu Shuang called out, craning her neck.
“Fine,” Xu Qing said, waving her hand. Moments later, she returned with the hair removal cream and knocked on the door.
But chaos had already erupted in the bathroom. Fu Shuang had turned the water flow to a trickle, but she was still shivering violently, shrieking intermittently—
“Thank you, Older Sister… hiss, just leave it outside… hiss!”
Xu Qing felt a mix of pity and amusement. Just as she’d predicted, the shock of the cold water had forced Fu Shuang to end her shower at lightning speed, completely forgetting about the hair removal cream.
Is she deliberately trying to seduce me? Xu Qing suddenly wondered.
If she is, how can I possibly resist?
Isn’t the age gap a bit too wide?
One thought after another flooded her mind. Xu Qing splashed cold water on her face, determined to stop this foolish daydreaming.
Though the kitchen stove was unusable, the toaster still worked. Xu Qing toasted two slices of bread, cut them diagonally into triangles, and made two simple sandwiches with raw radish, ham sausage, and salad.
Fu Shuang emerged from the bathroom, shivering, wrapped in a bath towel and a blanket. She found an outlet and plugged in a hairdryer to dry her hair.
But… there was an outlet right in front of the mirror cabinet. Why did she deliberately choose a spot where Xu Qing could see her?
Wasn’t that a bit too obvious?
Xu Qing took a bite of her sandwich, feeling her heart race. She lowered her head, burying her face in her phone, trying her best to ignore the commotion nearby.
If she’s trying to seduce me, I wouldn’t be able to resist at all, would I?
Xu Qing reached this conclusion and choked on her milk, her mind growing increasingly restless.
“I have a fiancée—or rather, I used to have a fiancée. Our family situation is complicated. Madam Min is a notoriously critical and demanding mother-in-law who looks down on girls from ordinary families. Future interactions would be fraught with difficulties, and there’s even a risk that Madam Min might secretly approach her, offer her money, and demand she leave me. While I would certainly intervene, I can’t protect her from every possible scenario. Moreover, she’s currently completely focused on her career, and romantic entanglements might influence her future decisions—a result I’m unwilling to see. In short, after rational analysis, my current circumstances simply aren’t suitable for her.”
Xu Qing mentally conjured a dramatic family feud between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, already feeling sorry for this adorable Omega.
Her overactive imagination led her to crush the milk carton and toss it into the trash. Only when Fu Shuang, having finished drying her hair and changed clothes, came into view did Xu Qing wave her over and say, “I made breakfast. Want some?”
Fu Shuang’s hair was still slightly damp. “What time is it?” she asked.
Xu Qing calmly glanced at her watch. “It’s 6:50. What time do you start work?”
“I have to clock in by 8:30, but I need an hour and a half for my commute,” Fu Shuang said hurriedly, grabbing a sandwich Xu Qing had made from the table and taking a bite. “It’s delicious, but I’ll have to eat it on the way.”
“No need to rush. I’ll drive you,” Xu Qing said, looking at Fu Shuang. “Sit down and finish your breakfast first.”
“I haven’t put on my makeup yet,” Fu Shuang said, frowning slightly. “Sorry, Older Sister.”
“I’ll take you on my motorcycle. Without traffic, we can get anywhere in Shengyuan City in half an hour. Even with unexpected delays, leaving at 7:30 should be more than enough time,” Xu Qing said, realizing she might sound too rigid. She softened her voice, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Come on, trust me this once!”
Hearing this, Fu Shuang finally relented. She sat down and took a sip of milk, a white foam clinging to her lips. Composing herself, she asked, “Older Sister, if you drive me, will you still make it to work on time?”
Xu Qing sighed softly for the poor girl. If Fu Shuang knew she was living a life of idle comfort within the system, her mental state would probably collapse.
“Our… company has flexible work hours,” Xu Qing said, her voice unnaturally slow as she struggled to lie. “It doesn’t matter what time you come in, as long as you get your work done.”
“That’s wonderful!” Fu Shuang took a bite of her sandwich, chewing slowly as she spoke. “Companies with such cultures are great. My company is so rigid—they even have dress code regulations. Luckily, my supervisor is understanding.”
This was the first time Xu Qing had heard her talk about work. When Fu Shuang mentioned the dress code regulations, the image of a professional uniform—a blouse, black skirt, and black stockings—flashed through Xu Qing’s mind, like those worn in some service industries. But Xu Qing quickly realized Fu Shuang was wearing a high-quality blouse paired with wide-legged black pants, which further accentuated her tall figure. Her daily outfit changes always caught Xu Qing’s eye.
Didn’t she say she was broke?
Or was it that she made the clothes look so high-end?
Xu Qing thought back. It seemed she had never worn cheap clothes—nothing with easily wrinkled fabrics, synthetic materials, low density, or loose threads. From this perspective, Xu Qing realized that her taste in clothing was remarkably refined, unlike that of someone from a poor family.
Perhaps they could team up to deceive Madam Min, creating the illusion of a wealthy family background as a delaying tactic.
At least this way, her family wouldn’t object so strongly to their relationship.
Xu Qing had witnessed firsthand how her parents had interfered in her older sister’s marriage, driving her and her ex-wife beyond reconciliation and ultimately forcing her to exile herself to a distant land. Only through such personal experience could one truly understand the maddening frustration and utter chaos it caused.
Although Xu Qing had unilaterally cut ties with her family, this was entirely due to the slaps, false accusations, and grievances she had endured. The Xu Family dared not push her too far. But she knew they would inevitably regroup and return, once again disrupting her life and turning it into a complete mess.
It’s always best to prepare for a rainy day.
Xu Qing’s thoughts had nearly circled the globe, yet she maintained her composure as she said to Fu Shuang, “I might not be able to keep this job for long. Every job has its drawbacks anyway. Being too idle isn’t good either; it breeds laziness.”
Assuming she was joking, Fu Shuang scoffed and laughed, “What’s wrong with laziness? Isn’t the ultimate goal of working hard to one day lie in bed, doing nothing but eating and waiting for death, all without worrying about money?”
“Is that why you work hard?” Xu Qing asked.
“Not entirely,” Fu Shuang replied. “Just surviving independently is already tough enough. I’m still relying on your help right now, so I’m nowhere near the ‘eat and wait for death’ stage. Let’s just take things one step at a time.” With that, she tossed her breakfast plate aside and hurried to her room to put on a flawless face of makeup.
“Don’t do a high ponytail or a bun,” Xu Qing warned her. “It’ll be awkward with the helmet. And if we run into traffic police, be prepared.”
“Will the traffic police give you trouble?” Fu Shuang asked.
“They will,” Xu Qing replied, watching her through the doorway with a soft laugh. “If we run into them, we might have to turn tail and run like rats. So, you need to be mentally prepared.”
Xu Qing expected this to scare her, but Fu Shuang simply paused, thought for a moment, and said, “Older Sister, your analogy is too harsh.”
Xu Qing awkwardly rubbed her nose. Fu Shuang continued, “We’re knights, not rats! Besides, the traffic police ride motorcycles too. Why should they be allowed to set fires while ordinary people can’t even light a lamp?”
Xu Qing was speechless and gave her a thumbs-up.
If they continued arguing, Xu Qing suspected Fu Shuang could talk about this topic endlessly.
It was truly unexpected that this young girl, who had been acting so obedient just days ago, was now so fiercely rebellious.
Why had she suddenly stopped pretending?
Xu Qing had originally been completely taken in by her act, utterly captivated.
Now, faced with Fu Shuang’s “sudden self,” Xu Qing could only sigh inwardly.
