Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 6
At midnight, most roadside restaurants had already closed. Xu Qing slowly cruised down the non-motorized vehicle lane on her scooter when a cyclist zipped past. The hands around her waist tightened, and Xu Qing eased off the throttle, glancing back to ask, “Did I scare you?”
Fu Shuang: “Huh?”
Xu Qing felt a pang of frustration. She’d met such an adorable Omega woman for the first time today, yet she could only offer her the precarious perch on the back of her scooter. The seat was terrifyingly high, and the poor Omega must be terrified.
Remembering Fu Shuang’s teary-eyed, trembling figure, Xu Qing felt a wave of sympathy. She turned her head slightly and said, “Hang in there a little longer. We’ll find the noodle shop soon.”
“…Okay, thank you, Sis,” Fu Shuang mumbled, watching bicycles whiz past them. She was speechless at their snail’s pace.
Even this turtle’s pace was making her drowsy. Before long, her eyes fluttered shut, and her helmeted head slumped forward onto Xu Qing’s shoulder.
If Xu Qing had a bird’s-eye view, she would have seen the girl completely nestled against her back.
The weight was heavy, as if the girl had pressed her entire body against Xu Qing.
Xu Qing was puzzled, maintaining her stiff posture until the hand around her waist slipped slightly. She quickly grabbed it, urgently stopped the scooter, and turned back in shock. “You… fell asleep?” she whispered, lowering her voice so as not to startle the girl.
The girl blinked awake, her raven-feather lashes fluttering. Realizing she was leaning entirely against Xu Qing, she startled, straightened up, and murmured, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. Thank goodness you didn’t fall off,” Xu Qing replied, realizing she was still gripping the girl’s hand tightly. The girl didn’t resist, only lowered her head like a dejected little rabbit.
“Let’s get off. I shouldn’t have taken you for a ride; it’s too dangerous.” Xu Qing released her hand, turned off the scooter, and dismounted. “There’s a ramen shop up ahead. Let’s walk.”
She helped the girl off the back seat and led the way, using the streetlights to gauge the distance between their shadows.
“Your clothes,” the girl hurried after her, taking small, quick steps. “It’s a bit cold. You should wear this, Sister.”
“I’m not cold. You keep it,” Xu Qing replied, completely unaware of how her scantily clad figure might affect an Omega. With her hands in her pockets and her head down, she was still pondering what to do next.
Should I let her stay at my place?
She lived alone in a four-bedroom apartment in the suburbs, fully equipped with all amenities. The spacious layout was far more than she needed, and there would be plenty of room for an Omega woman to stay.
But is there really no legal risk involved?
The young Omega looked so innocent, almost falling asleep on the back of the motorcycle. She clearly had no reservations about Alphas. Could she even be a minor?
If I take her in, wouldn’t that be considered kidnapping a minor?
Even after they sat down at the restaurant and ordered, Xu Qing couldn’t shake these thoughts.
She hesitated to bring it up herself, fearing it would make her seem like a kidnapper and scare the girl.
As if sensing Xu Qing’s thoughts, the girl sitting across from her spoke up, “I’ll go back on my own later. If my stepfather can’t find me, he’ll call the police, and they’ll bring me back anyway. It’s better if I go myself—at least I’ll get beaten less.”
She had wiped away her tears, but her eyes and nose remained red. Her gaze was stubborn, carrying a fragile yet resilient beauty.
Xu Qing’s heart ached. She quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry. If you don’t want to go back, I’ll help you find a way.”
The girl looked up at her, her eyes sparkling with genuine joy. “Really, Sister?”
As if burned by the girl’s fervent gaze, Xu Qing cleared her throat and lowered her head. “My family has several vacant houses. If you don’t want to go home right now, you can stay at one of them for a few days.”
“I’ll pay you rent as soon as I earn some money,” the girl said, her excitement turning to worry. “But it’s hard to find a job right now. It might take a while…”
“That’s okay,” Xu Qing said. “You can stay there first, and we’ll talk about the rent later.”
The girl looked at her in disbelief. “Really?”
“Well, it’s a bit remote, so commuting might be inconvenient. The nearest subway station is over a kilometer away,” Xu Qing paused, but seeing the girl’s eyes still shining brightly, undeterred by her words, she continued, “But there are advantages too. The community has strict security measures, there’s a convenience store downstairs, and all the facilities are brand new. You’d feel a bit safer living there alone as a girl.”
“That place… the rent must be expensive, right?” the girl asked softly, her eyes downcast.
“I’m not sure,” Xu Qing replied. “I won’t be charging you rent.”
The girl’s eyes widened slightly, and she covered her mouth with her hand, looking utterly astonished.
Xu Qing quickly explained, “I don’t mean anything by it. I just saw you were in trouble and wanted to help. I won’t ask for any other compensation…”
The girl’s eyes reddened, and she lowered her head, tears falling. “No one has ever been this kind to me before…”
Xu Qing’s heart ached at the sight of her tears. She grabbed two tissues and handed them to the girl.
“Thank you, Sister,” the pitiful Omega said, wiping her tears.
Xu Qing looked at the girl’s flushed cheeks and couldn’t help but ask softly, “You… you’re an adult, right?”
“Mm, I just turned eighteen this year,” the girl’s soft voice tugged at Xu Qing’s heart. Smiling, she introduced herself, “I’m Bai Lu. You can call me Lulu, Sister. What’s your name?”
The reeds grow thick and green, white dew turns to frost.
Fu Shuang was quite pleased with the temporary alias she had chosen.
Xu Qing was about to reply when a waiter arrived with steaming bowls of ramen. “Here you go, be careful it’s hot. Which one of you ordered this? You both ordered the same thing, right?”
The fragrant beef broth filled the air, the noodles distinct and perfectly cooked, topped with a generous layer of thin slices of beef, vibrant green scallions, and fresh cilantro.
Judging by their appearances, the waiter politely served the bowl to the younger-looking of the two.
Fu Shuang frowned, awkwardly watching the bowl being placed before her.
Though she was exhausted and hungry, she knew she couldn’t finish such a large portion, especially with what seemed like a lethal amount of scallions floating on top.
With just a glance, Xu Qing sensed her reluctance and quickly intervened. “Give this bowl to me. The next one should be without scallions and cilantro.”
Fu Shuang’s eyes widened with surprise and admiration. “How did you know I don’t like scallions?”
“I just realized,” Xu Qing said. “You could have told me earlier if you didn’t like it. I wouldn’t have minded.”
“Thank you, Sister. You’re so thoughtful,” Fu Shuang said with a smile. “Actually, I like cilantro, but I don’t like scallions.”
Xu Qing: “Then I’ll tell the staff again.”
“No need.” Fu Shuang tried to stop her, but it was too late. The staff member was standing right behind Xu Qing, who turned around and immediately spoke to her.
The young staff member’s heart fluttered after just a few words from Xu Qing. She eagerly noted the request and hurried to the kitchen to instruct them to omit the scallions and add cilantro.
Fu Shuang watched the staff member practically float away, then glanced secretly at Xu Qing, who was bent over her noodles. Even though Fu Shuang wasn’t usually interested in attractive people, she couldn’t help but think: So handsome.
A kind-hearted and beautiful Alpha sister. If Fu Shuang weren’t so busy earning money and looking for a job, she might have fallen for her.
Back at the bar, Fu Shuang had only been trying to escape Boss Zhou’s harassment. She seized the opportunity to run away with this Alpha sister, and fearing she might be abandoned, Fu Shuang had resorted to all sorts of flirtatious tactics.
Fu Shuang wanted to take a gamble and see if this Alpha sister would take her in. At the very least, she hoped to swindle enough money to stay in a hotel. But throughout the journey, the Alpha sister hadn’t made any decent offers. Just when Fu Shuang thought her chances were gone, the woman offered her a vacant house to live in!
This was sheer dumb luck.
Fu Shuang ate her noodles in small bites. When Xu Qing put down her chopsticks, Fu Shuang followed suit, got up, and went to pay for the meal.
“I’m treating you to noodles. Don’t pay,” Xu Qing stopped her. “Be good and wait until you’re earning money to repay me.”
Hesitantly, Fu Shuang put her phone away and obediently waited by the side.
Xu Qing now felt like she was the one who had struck gold. Rumor had it that Omegas were delicate, fragile, and sensitive, prone to throwing tantrums over the slightest thing. Xu Qing had spent her entire life preparing to deal with her spoiled Young Miss fiancée. Yet, she never imagined that beyond that pampered heiress, there could exist such a well-behaved and adorable Omega.
