Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 7
In the taxi, Fu Shuang was both exhausted and sleepy. Despite her best efforts to stay awake, she drifted off between blinks.
“Pull over here,” the Alpha sister’s voice was as cold as early spring snowmelt, yet as gentle and calm as a stream winding around towering mountains. Unseen, her presence transformed glacial ice into lush green meadows.
Fu Shuang woke to her voice from the front seat, followed by the turn signal’s rhythmic tick-tock. The driver was already pulling over. Glancing at her phone, Fu Shuang was astonished to see that thirty minutes had passed since she’d closed her eyes.
What had the other two been doing during those thirty minutes?
Did they… know she’d fallen asleep? Did she?
Fortunately, Fu Shuang was alone in the back seat. She wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth, relieved no one had witnessed her embarrassing moment.
Stepping out of the taxi, Fu Shuang felt much more alert. Xu Qing, walking ahead, called out, “Don’t forget your things!”
Fu Shuang glanced at the back seat, then nodded obediently, clutching her handbag. “Mm-hmm.”
The taxi pulled away, and Fu Shuang followed Xu Qing into the residential complex. They took the elevator to the 15th floor, where Xu Qing unlocked the apartment door with her fingerprint.
Xu Qing didn’t initiate conversation, so Fu Shuang acted as docile as a fluffy little animal, keeping her head lowered and cautiously observing her surroundings.
The apartment was so clean it looked uninhabited. The gray floors were spotless, the coffee table and cabinets were completely bare, and even the sofa only had a neatly folded blanket draped over it. The entire space felt brand new, almost like a showroom.
Fu Shuang guessed that either no one actually lived here, or the owner was obsessively fastidious about cleanliness, perhaps even a storage fanatic.
She stood awkwardly by the door, watching as Xu Qing entered without changing her shoes. Moments later, Xu Qing returned with a pair of unopened slippers.
As Fu Shuang reached for them, she casually exposed the bruise on her inner arm, feigning nonchalance.
Having fabricated a story about an abusive stepfather, she needed convincing evidence. Coincidentally, the previous day at her mother’s funeral, Fu Shuang had gotten into a fight with the woman who had seduced her late father, leaving her with a few bruises.
As expected, Xu Qing paused when she noticed the bruises on Fu Shuang’s arm.
While Fu Shuang changed her shoes, Xu Qing stood in the living room, not too far away, her gaze sweeping around the room. She planned to give a few instructions and leave.
“The utilities were paid last month, so that should last you a while,” Xu Qing said after a moment’s thought. “For the shower, why don’t you try the hot water first?”
“No… no need,” Fu Shuang murmured gratefully. “I’ve already troubled you enough, making you worry about these things so late.”
“It’s no trouble at all. I just worry you might run into problems living alone and not know how to handle them,” Xu Qing replied, her eyes darting around the room. Spotting the refrigerator, she added, “There are some dumplings and meat in the freezer. If you’re not sure what to eat, just boil some dumplings.”
Fu Shuang stared at her, stunned.
Xu Qing sized her up. “If you didn’t bring any spare clothes, you can wear mine for the next few days. I’ll find some for you.”
“Was this your apartment before, Sister Xu Qing?” Fu Shuang asked, standing awkwardly in place. “You’re not… you’re not planning to move out just to help me, are you?”
“Don’t think like that. I mentioned I have several vacant houses, right? The others are perfectly habitable, but they either lack appliances or furniture, making them less convenient for you.”
Xu Qing leaned against the sofa armrest, feigning composure as she glanced at the floor, then at the beautiful Omega. Fu Shuang still seemed slightly tipsy, feeling particularly stifled in the enclosed space. Her cheeks flushed faintly as she took a deep breath and said, “This place is too far from my workplace. I’ve been planning to move anyway, so you don’t need to worry about it.”
Fu Shuang felt a pang of guilt. All the way here, she had been strategizing how to guard against this kind Alpha sister and how to manipulate her. Yet, to her surprise, Xu Qing was offering her own home to ensure Fu Shuang’s comfort.
“You really don’t have to do this,” Fu Shuang said, lowering her gaze. “I’ve… I’ve shared apartments with many people before. I don’t mind living with Alphas or Betas. You don’t need to worry so much about my feelings…”
Xu Qing looked at the pitiful yet sensible Omega, her heart aching with sympathy. As the saying goes, children from poor families mature early. How much hardship and suffering must Fu Shuang have endured to develop such a considerate and self-effacing nature?
Could a pampered young miss ever compare to this?
Fortunately, the engagement had been called off, allowing Xu Qing to finally experience the world beyond her sheltered life.
She reassured Fu Shuang, “It’s alright. I don’t live here full-time anyway. I usually stay at my parents’ house. I only keep a few clothes here.”
Fu Shuang was momentarily speechless.
Xu Qing suddenly remembered something and pulled out a medicine box from a cabinet drawer. She opened it to show Fu Shuang. “We have iodine, alcohol, bandages, and some antibiotics and cold medicine. Help yourself whenever you need them.”
Fu Shuang sniffled, her head bowed and eyes red. “Sister fought for me. You should take care of yourself first. Don’t worry about me.”
Xu Qing laughed. “It’s nothing. Just a few scrapes on my hand. No big deal.”
Hearing this, Fu Shuang suddenly leaned closer, picked up Xu Qing’s hand, and examined it. Sure enough, there were several cuts on her palm, the bl00d already dried.
She lifted Xu Qing’s hand and gently blew on the wounds, her heart aching.
“If it weren’t for me, Sister wouldn’t have gotten into a fight…”
The warmth in Xu Qing’s palm seemed to tickle her heart. She quickly withdrew her hand, protesting, “Who said I don’t fight? I’m out riding my motorcycle and brawling all day. That’s just how Alphas are. Don’t blame yourself, really.”
“Is that so?” Fu Shuang eyed her skeptically, studying her with curiosity. When their eyes met, Fu Shuang shyly lowered her gaze again.
“Let me apply the medicine,” Fu Shuang said, wiping her eyes, which were almost too dry to produce tears. “This is all I can do for now.”
Help me, I’ve cried too much today. My eyes are completely dry.
Xu Qing sat on the sofa, watching Fu Shuang fumble with the supplies, nearly knocking over the iodine. Fortunately, Xu Qing’s quick reflexes allowed her to steady the bottle.
Before Xu Qing could breathe a sigh of relief, the iodine-soaked cotton swab slipped from Fu Shuang’s hand, staining the sofa cushion yellow and making a mess on the floor.
Xu Qing: “……”
This shouldn’t be so hard, right?
Applying medicine is a pretty simple task, isn’t it?
How could this poor girl, forced to drop out of school at such a young age to earn money, be so clumsy she can’t even apply medicine properly?
Or was she just too nervous?
Nervous.
Was it fear… or something else?
Xu Qing glanced down at the girl frantically picking up cotton swabs from the floor. Unfortunately, from her angle, she caught a glimpse of the girl’s pale, rounded skin at her neckline—a tantalizing sight. Her hand trembled slightly, and she failed to save the open bottle of iodine.
The scene was a complete disaster.
This was the first time Xu Qing had made such a foolish mistake, and she was deeply frustrated. She hurried to grab tissues while Fu Shuang went to find a mop. After puzzling over the mop’s operation in the bathroom for ages, Fu Shuang returned to find Xu Qing had already cleaned up the mess. However, iodine stains covered Xu Qing’s clothes and pants, leaving her looking utterly disheveled.
The two women exchanged a silent look. Xu Qing chuckled, “I’ll just shower here and come back tomorrow after work to finish packing.”
“…Okay.”
Fu Shuang’s recently relaxed guard snapped back into place. Who said Alphas didn’t have ulterior motives?
Spilling medicine everywhere—wasn’t that because she was mesmerized by my beauty?
Fu Shuang wasn’t surprised. She had complete confidence in her allure; it was only natural for Alphas to be captivated by her. However, Xu Qing had maintained remarkable restraint so far, earning Fu Shuang’s genuine goodwill. In her mind, she silently gave Xu Qing three stars.
It was fine to flirt with her—after all, Fu Shuang was currently staying in her apartment—but she couldn’t let her take advantage.
She still had a stun gun and pepper spray in her bag.
This time, she absolutely couldn’t let her guard down! She couldn’t fall asleep like she had in the taxi!
The more unconditionally kind someone was to her, the more vigilant she needed to be.
Who knew what the other woman was thinking about while showering?
Fu Shuang kept glancing toward the bathroom, listening to the rushing water and imagining how comfortable it must be in the steamy, hot room.
She longed to take a bath and get a good night’s sleep. She’d been so exhausted these past few days, she hadn’t even had time to grieve her mother’s burial. Even when that bastard at the bar had mentioned her “dead parents” last night, she’d only felt a brief pang of sadness.
Her poor mother had foolishly hoped marriage would protect her in her later years, but when had marriage ever protected her?
In the end, her husband had been seduced by another woman, and she’d had to deal with an illegitimate son who appeared out of nowhere. Her husband’s cold indifference had driven her to despair, and she’d been bullied and humiliated until she died young. What utter misfortune!
Whether Omega or female, true happiness should be earned through one’s own efforts, and protection should come from one’s own strength, not from relying on strangers.
Fu Shuang had no desire to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Though she held no illusions about love, she also didn’t intend to push away those who treated her well. After all, surviving independently in this harsh environment required resorting to some less-than-honorable tactics.
By the time Xu Qing emerged from her shower, Fu Shuang had already fallen asleep on the sofa.
The defenseless Omega lay curled into a small ball, her rosy lips slightly parted and tear tracks still visible at the corners of her eyes. She looked utterly exhausted.
Xu Qing changed into fresh clothes, her long hair dripping wet, and stood frozen in the doorway, lost in thought.
A smile crept across her lips as she recalled Fu Shuang’s performance on stage.
Getting into a fight for a complete stranger was definitely out of character for Xu Qing.
If the police caught her, she could lose her job.
Even though she didn’t particularly enjoy her work, what could be easier than lying around at the office and collecting a paycheck? Considering the struggles of her peers who couldn’t find employment, she should cherish this job all the more.
After tonight, she would still be the dutiful, obedient, and filial Xu Qing, still forced to go to work, get married, and live a life she didn’t want.
This rare moment of impulsiveness had brought her unprecedented excitement and satisfaction. Moreover, the Omega was so beautiful she couldn’t take her eyes off her. Just seeing her made Xu Qing’s mood soar.
She had originally planned to dry her hair before leaving, but seeing the Omega sleeping soundly on the sofa, she was afraid of waking her. Instead, she left a note with her phone number on the coffee table, tucked a blanket over the Omega, turned off the lights, and quietly slipped out.
At 1:35 AM, Xu Qing sobered up, hailed a cab, and returned to the noodle shop area to retrieve her motorcycle.
With several hours until dawn, the streets were deserted, with barely any cars in sight. Xu Qing put on her helmet and roared down the empty roads, the engine echoing through the night.
The mere thought of having a beautiful and adorable Omega staying at her place made her pulse race with excitement.
After her exhilarating ride, she parked the motorcycle at her workplace. At this hour, she couldn’t think of anywhere else to go.
Going to work at 2:30 AM—surely no one in the world was as crazy as her.
