Divorcee O Finds Me Irresistible - Chapter 9
“I’m not familiar with this area,” Fu Shuang said politely, walking slowly ahead. “Please choose a restaurant, and I’ll treat.”
Xu Qing watched Fu Shuang’s slightly clumsy gait due to her injury and couldn’t imagine how this frail girl had managed to carry so many bags on the subway. She never wanted to experience the evening rush hour crowds again, let alone with all that luggage.
Pity overwhelmed her, and she didn’t bother questioning Fu Shuang’s sudden decision to bring the cat. She chose a hole-in-the-wall restaurant she’d never been to before and ordered the cheapest bowl of noodles.
“Are you sure you only want this?” Fu Shuang frowned, looking at the menu. Can anyone really eat a bowl of vegetable noodles for eight yuan? she wondered. The grimy restaurant looked utterly unhygienic, and the greasy tables made her lose her appetite.
Today was her first day of internship, the first step toward her new life. After a tiring day, she’d returned home exhausted, sleepy, and hungry. Shouldn’t she at least treat herself to a decent meal?
“A bowl of noodles is enough for me,” Xu Qing said. “You work hard to earn money. You should save some.”
Fu Shuang glanced resentfully at the menu and reluctantly ordered the cheapest bowl of noodles as well.
Despite being dizzy with hunger, Fu Shuang showed no interest in the noodles placed before her, taking only a few perfunctory bites before stopping.
She had never tasted anything so awful in her life. If this was to be the norm for her future meals, she found it hard to accept.
Earning 120 yuan a day as an intern, surely spending 20 yuan on a bowl of noodles with meat wasn’t unreasonable, was it?
The more she thought about it, the more miserable she felt. Her eyes rimmed with red, and a tear splashed into the bland broth with a soft plop.
Xu Qing, who had been picking at her noodles, startled at the sight. She dropped her chopsticks, wanting to offer Fu Shuang a napkin, only to realize the small restaurant didn’t even have any.
She got up to ask the owner, who tore off a greasy strip of low-quality paper towel for her.
Xu Qing was speechless for a moment. She couldn’t bring herself to hand over such a filthy scrap. “Wait here,” she said to Fu Shuang. “I’ll go buy some napkins next door.”
“I have some in my bag,” Fu Shuang said hurriedly, wiping her tears. “I’m sorry for ruining your mood. I’m so sorry.”
“I’m the one who should be apologizing… I chose the wrong place. Let’s not eat here. Come on, I’ll take you somewhere else,” Xu Qing suggested.
Knowing her Omega sister was struggling financially, Fu Shuang had deliberately chosen an inexpensive restaurant to save her some money. She never imagined she’d step on such a landmine.
“It’s alright, let’s go back to the room first. Koala’s been in the carrier for too long and needs some fresh air,” Fu Shuang said, teasing the little animal through the carrier’s glass window.
Seeing her mood improve, Xu Qing breathed a sigh of relief and chuckled. “Koala? You named your cat Koala?”
“And her sister is called Panda,” Fu Shuang replied. “It’s a shame I couldn’t bring her along.”
“That’s adorable! Is Panda a cow cat?” Xu Qing asked, smiling as they walked.
“How did you know?” Fu Shuang laughed. “You must watch a lot of cat videos.”
“Guilty,” Xu Qing admitted. “When I’m bored, I do. Cow cats have such quirky patterns. Does yours look like a panda?”
“Exactly like one!” Fu Shuang’s smile was small and restrained, yet sweet, her eyes sparkling like gemstones. She walked slowly, so Xu Qing slung the cat carrier over her front, walking backward to face her and keep the conversation going.
“Did you go home to pack today? Were you discovered?” Xu Qing asked.
“These are things I kept at a friend’s house—some temporary necessities,” Fu Shuang said with a shy smile. “I sometimes stay at her place, but she lives with her family, so it’s not very convenient.”
Xu Qing nodded in understanding.
Fu Shuang studied her. “Sister, why didn’t you ride your motorcycle today?”
“I’m going to work. Riding isn’t very convenient.”
Fu Shuang frowned, pressing further. “Why isn’t it convenient?”
Xu Qing replied flatly, “It’s dangerous, I can’t carry passengers, and I might get stopped by traffic police.”
“I hate traffic police,” Fu Shuang said.
“That’s their job,” Xu Qing countered.
Fu Shuang dropped the subject, giving Xu Qing a meaningful look. “Sister, what time did you leave last night? Where did you stay?”
Just as Xu Qing was about to answer, Madam Min’s call interrupted—her fourth call in the past hour.
Xu Qing freed one hand to silence her smartwatch.
The call came again as they entered the elevator. Xu Qing simply pulled out her phone and turned it off.
Fu Shuang murmured, “You can take the call. Don’t worry about me.”
Xu Qing smiled. “Who answers their boss’s calls after work?”
Fu Shuang’s expression stiffened slightly, and she immediately developed a newfound respect for Xu Qing.
Exactly! she thought. Adults should act like this. Why answer work calls after hours?
Fu Shuang secretly resolved to adopt this attitude herself in the future.
The apartment door opened, revealing the room exactly as they had left it the previous night.
Xu Qing set down her bag and opened the cat carrier to let Koala out. The adult Blue Cat, entirely gray with somewhat goofy features, did indeed bear a resemblance to the koalas hanging from trees.
“I brought Koala without asking,” Fu Shuang said apologetically, pressing her lips together. “I hope you’re not angry. Koala is family to me—I couldn’t abandon her.”
Xu Qing hesitated, considering her words. Initially, she had been annoyed by Lulu’s actions, feeling that she was taking too many liberties. If she brings her cat home today, will she bring her boyfriend tomorrow?
Xu Qing knew nothing about Fu Shuang’s background. What if she wasn’t a serious person at all, just using this as an excuse to take advantage of her?
After a long silence, Xu Qing finally spoke. “You should have told me sooner so I could prepare myself. Raising a cat is a lot of work, isn’t it? All the supplies and care… do you think you can handle it?”
Fu Shuang smiled sweetly. “I’m very experienced!”
Seeing such a charming smile, Xu Qing couldn’t bring herself to scold her. Instead, she asked, “Have you prepared the cat litter and everything else?”
“I haven’t had time yet… I was so busy today,” Fu Shuang said, lowering her head. “I’m really sorry I couldn’t notify you during the day.”
“It’s fine,” Xu Qing replied. “These are just minor details.”
Fu Shuang breathed a sigh of relief and was about to sit down to rest when she noticed Koala had crawled under the sofa.
Xu Qing crouched down to check on the cat, finding the little creature huddled motionless in a corner. “Why won’t it come out?” she asked Fu Shuang. “Should we leave it alone?”
“Just leave it be,” Fu Shuang said, rubbing her aching instep. “It’s just adjusting to the new environment.”
“There’s medicine for bruises and sprains in the first-aid kit,” Xu Qing offered. “I’ll get it for you.”
“Thank you, Elder Sister. You’ve really helped me a lot.”
Fu Shuang’s smile was like a dazzling ice crystal—fragile enough to shatter at the slightest touch. Yet ice crystals could also be weapons. If anyone dared to cross her, she would make them pay, even if it cost her everything.
Xu Qing handed her the spray, watching as Fu Shuang removed her shoes and socks, revealing a bruised and swollen patch on the back of her right foot.
“I found a job far from here, with low pay, but without a degree, it’s all I can get right now,” Fu Shuang said, applying the medicine as she spoke, weaving a narrative of half-truths. “Once I’ve settled in and my stepfather stops harassing me, I’ll move out and stop bothering you, Sister.”
Xu Qing froze, then asked after a long pause, “Don’t you like living here?”
“Of course I do, but this is your place, Sister, and I can’t afford such high rent,” Fu Shuang said, pressing her lips together and glancing shyly at Xu Qing. “I’ll sort things out as soon as possible and won’t cause you any more trouble.”
“There’s no need,” Xu Qing replied. “You can stay here as long as you want. No one knows you’re here, so no one will kick you out. I don’t mind you keeping cats, or even dogs, as long as you don’t bring people over.”
Fu Shuang reacted dramatically, waving her hands in a panic and whispering, “I wouldn’t bring anyone here. I don’t have friends like that…”
Xu Qing finally obtained the crucial information she needed, feeling satisfied. She called Fu Shuang over to the door. “Come here. I need to record your fingerprints.”
Fu Shuang followed and recorded her fingerprints as instructed.
The skin on the back of her hand was fair and delicate, her fingers long and slender, and her nails were meticulously clean, coated with a faint, reflective nail polish. It was clear she took great care of herself, yet her hands still bore the marks of her work—small cuts and scrapes around her knuckles and ring finger.
Poor, fragile Omega, Xu Qing thought, still harboring an inexplicable fascination with this species.
“I’ll grab a few things and leave soon. Are you sure you’ll be alright here alone?” Xu Qing asked, crossing her arms and looking at Fu Shuang with a calm expression.
Fu Shuang lowered her head, her lips moving as if she wanted to speak, but she remained silent.
Xu Qing continued, “If there’s anything else you’re unsure about, just tell me. I won’t bother you while you’re staying here.”
Xu Qing had lived alone abroad for many years and was accustomed to her solitary lifestyle. Even having one extra person in her room made her feel deeply uncomfortable.
Putting herself in Fu Shuang’s shoes, Xu Qing reasoned that a young Omega would surely prefer to live alone, constantly wary of her presence. What a nuisance that would be for her, she thought.
Fu Shuang, of course, would have preferred to live alone.
But after observing Xu Qing for the past two days, she had discerned the Alpha sister’s true character.
If Xu Qing had harbored ill intentions, last night would have been the perfect opportunity. She could have taken advantage of Fu Shuang while she slept, leaving her no chance to resist.
Yet Xu Qing had done no such thing. Instead, she had thoughtfully covered Fu Shuang with a blanket and left her phone number.
This meant Xu Qing was a kind, generous, and exceptionally virtuous Alpha—someone Fu Shuang could temporarily rely on.
Xu Qing could help Fu Shuang move her belongings, share meals with her, fix broken items, and even care for her when she was sick. In short… she was an invaluable “tool Alpha” whom Fu Shuang had no intention of letting go.
Take the cat incident, for example. Fu Shuang had only intended to test Xu Qingyue’s reaction, but the Alpha sister showed no concern whatsoever, not even a word of reproach.
Fu Shuang wanted to cling to Xu Qingyue for warmth, even if it was a one-sided arrangement. Though her calculations were clear in her mind, she betrayed no hint of her intentions on her face, maintaining a dejected posture with her head bowed.
Xu Qingyue felt increasingly sympathetic. Unable to resist, she patted Fu Shuang’s shoulder. “What’s wrong? Talk to me.”
Fu Shuang’s emotions surged. She suddenly grabbed Xu Qingyue’s arm before she could withdraw it and pulled it close, pleading pitifully, “Sister, don’t leave me. I’m so scared all alone…”
Xu Qingyue’s breath caught in her throat.
Fu Shuang was too close, her chest pressed against Xu Qingyue’s arm. The warmth enveloped Xu Qingyue, involuntarily reminding her of the glimpse she’d caught the previous night.
Omegas, regardless of gender, possessed a unique constitution—naturally alluring and sensual. Though sensitive and vulnerable, they were exceptionally fertile, an indispensable component of societal progress and renewal.
Because their reproductive value far outweighed their individual contributions to society through labor, Omegas were comprehensively protected throughout their upbringing as society evolved. They were barred from attending boarding schools and pursuing certain professions, with societal norms steering them toward domestic roles, urging them to abandon their personal ambitions for the sake of family and society.
Xu Qing had limited exposure to Omegas growing up. She couldn’t fathom how a girl with such a slender waist could have br3asts that appeared larger than her hips.
She couldn’t imagine what it would feel like to touch them.
Xu Qing struggled to banish the lewd thoughts from her mind. The girl clung to her hand, refusing to let go, her eyes brimming with crystal-clear tears, radiating profound sorrow.
“…Afraid of what?” Xu Qing asked, her mind in disarray.
“Ghosts, the dark… I’m so scared to be alone,” Fu Shuang murmured, wiping her tears on Xu Qing’s sleeve. “Sister, please don’t leave. Stay with me, okay?”
Even when Xu Qing lived alone, she occasionally felt afraid.
In the dead of night, she would sometimes worry about something lurking in the shadows.
If even an Alpha like her could feel fear, how could a vulnerable Omega not be terrified?
Xu Qing wavered.
Xu Qing didn’t rush to speak. Her Omega sister clung to her, sobbing, “Sister, I can’t live alone… Will my stepfather come looking for me? He’ll kill Koala… He’ll throw her out the window…”
Her unrestrained weeping made Xu Qing suspect that the scene she described had actually happened.
“That won’t happen,” Xu Qing swallowed hard, terrified the Omega would hear her frantic heartbeat. She struggled to push her away. “You don’t need to worry. At worst, I’ll stay with you for a few days until you adjust.”
“No, Sister! This is your house! Don’t move out! Stay here with me,” Fu Shuang pleaded, resorting to her most endearing tactics. “I get so lonely by myself. I just want someone to talk to. I’ll be good, I promise. I won’t cause you any trouble…”
Xu Qing found herself utterly unable to refuse her. Gritting her teeth, she blurted out, “Are all Omegas like this?”
Fu Shuang blinked innocently, tears still clinging to her lashes. “We… what’s wrong with us?”
“It’s nothing,” Xu Qing said, clearing her throat. This is so exhausting, she thought.
Fu Shuang looked utterly bewildered. Xu Qing patted her shoulder. “Let’s go. We didn’t eat properly earlier, so let’s find a good place to eat now.”
Fu Shuang wrinkled her nose and pleaded, “Sister! Promise me first!”
Xu Qing replied gently, “I promise.”
Fu Shuang’s face lit up with joy. She hugged Xu Qing’s arm and nearly jumped for joy. “That’s wonderful!”
Xu Qing gently pushed her away, closed the door, and led the way downstairs. The thought of living with an Omega she had only just met filled her with nervousness.
Throughout the meal, Xu Qing remained reserved, her expression blank as she mentally reviewed the dos and don’ts of living with an Omega. Fu Shuang, however, seemed much more relaxed. She proactively asked about Xu Qing’s preferences, served her food, and even suggested they cook meals together at home in the future.
Cooking at home?
Xu Qing did have a few signature dishes, but the company cafeteria was so good that she rarely bothered cooking when living alone. However, with a roommate, she would gladly cook.
As the pretty girl chatted animatedly in front of her, boasting about her cooking skills, Xu Qing offered a few compliments while silently noting her preferences.
When it was time to pay, Xu Qing finally checked her phone and was immediately overwhelmed by a flood of messages. Her heart sank, and her face turned pale.
“What’s wrong? What happened?” Fu Shuang noticed her distress and asked with concern.
“There’s an emergency at home. I need to go back,” Xu Qing said, looking apologetically at her Omega roommate. “Can you manage on your own tonight? Lock the door when you get back, and call me if anything happens. I’ll answer right away.”
She spoke quickly, her urgency betraying the seriousness of the situation. Fu Shuang pouted, “But… you just promised me…”
Xu Qing gritted her teeth. “I’m so sorry…”
“It’s okay,” Fu Shuang said with a playful smile. “I was just teasing. Since it’s an emergency, you should go right away. I’ll wait for you to come back.”
Xu Qing gave her a long, earnest look before finally saying, “Just remember to call me.”
Fu Shuang nodded vigorously in agreement.
