Doomsday Awakening GL - Chapter 15
For a battle against an enemy beyond their level, they could only rely on cunning.
An Yimu gripped the dagger and inhaled slightly. This zombie was already Tier 3, beyond what she could handle. Last time, she had only managed to kill the Hardened Zombie by leveraging her three times normal strength after her breakthrough.
She glanced sideways and saw Yu Le running toward her, closely pursued by the Spider-Form Zombie.
This idiot! The remaining 18 people must have died at the hands of the Spider-Form Zombie.
Yu Le was greatly alarmed, completely unprepared for a zombie stronger than himself. Even with their 19 people fighting together, only he managed to escape. This zombie could spit acid like sulfuric acid, which had instantly corroded seven or eight people into liquid corpses. Yu Le dared not fight anymore and fled in a panic.
Without Yu Le as the main force, the others quickly perished at the hands of the zombies.
An Yimu’s mind raced, and she instantly formed a plan.
She roared and charged forward again, engaging in a fierce, balanced fight with the Hardened Zombie. After a few exchanges, she successfully enraged the zombie. She violently kicked the zombie and retreated. The zombie immediately chased after her. Yu Le happened to see An Yimu being chased by the zombie and scoffed internally, Women are women, still dependent on men to survive. Qiuyu must have seen her cowardice.
An Yimu deliberately lured the zombie toward Yu Le. The Spider-Form Zombie was still chasing Yu Le. When it saw An Yimu, it instantly roared, and its speed increased. Yu Le screamed and rolled to the side, his right leg having been corroded by the acid.
The Spider-Form Zombie brandished its eight spider legs and spat a stream of acid.
Now!
An Yimu’s eyes narrowed. She quickly stopped, performed a backflip, and forcefully shoved the Hardened Zombie that was chasing her forward.
The acid instantly covered the Hardened Zombie’s face, making a sizzling sound. Without the protection of its hard exterior, An Yimu plunged her dagger viciously into the back of the zombie’s head. A surge of powerful energy poured into the bean-shaped object in An Yimu’s brain.
The Hardened Zombie died without making a sound, just like that.
“Qin Yongsheng! Get them out of here!” An Yimu shouted, instantly retreating tens of meters to maintain distance from the Spider-Form Zombie.
Qin Yongsheng understood immediately. He roared and charged into the surrounding zombies, killing anyone in his way. Nuan Qianyu, Gu Linlin, and Ling Qiuyu also quickly followed, leaving the area.
Yu Le saw An Yimu kill the evolved zombie and simply assumed she was lucky. Seeing An Yimu confronting the terrifying zombie, he endured the pain, dragged his crippled leg, and quickly fled.
An Yimu knew she couldn’t defeat the Spider-Form Zombie conventionally. Besides cleverness, she could only rely on cleverness. She secretly looked around, needing to avoid the zombie’s acid. So far, she only knew the zombie had this attack ability, but those eight spider legs certainly didn’t look like decorations.
The Spider-Form Zombie ignored the other fleeing people, its black eyes fixed only on An Yimu. It knew this human was cunning and would not underestimate her.
Eventually, the Spider-Form Zombie couldn’t resist and attacked first. An Yimu sneered, Zombies are zombies; even with intelligence, they are not human.
She dodged the acid the zombie spat out. She noticed that the zombie needed a pause after each acid spray before it could use it again. Taking advantage of the moment after the zombie sprayed acid, An Yimu rolled and threw a long blade she found in the rubble at the zombie. This was what Yu Le had dropped while running away.
The zombie didn’t dodge. The top two of its eight spider legs slightly trembled and slashed forward in a cross shape. The long blade shattered, falling to the ground with bang, bang, bang sounds.
An Yimu was alarmed. If that were her, wouldn’t she have been torn apart instantly?
Moreover, six more spider legs hadn’t moved yet. An Yimu estimated that Nuan Qianyu and the others should have run far enough. She just needed to get rid of this zombie. Numerous initial zombies were still gathered around, but with the Spider-Form Zombie present, they dared not approach, only growling with frustration.
Her bean-shaped object’s energy was only a quarter full, making a breakthrough impossible.
The Spider-Form Zombie’s abdomen twitched, and it spat a stream of acid. An Yimu dodged without stopping, but the zombie quickly closed in on her. Two sharp spider legs were about to pierce her.
An Yimu raised her hand and stabbed one spider leg with her dagger, simultaneously sidestepping to avoid the other. This all happened in an instant. She then saw the zombie’s abdomen begin to twitch again.
An Yimu internally cried out in alarm. Wouldn’t she be completely drenched in the zombie’s acid? She quickly put her hands on the ground and performed a spin kick toward the zombie’s head. The speed was so fast that the zombie couldn’t react. Its head was kicked off to the side, and the acid it spat out poured onto its own head. At the same time, An Yimu’s legs were harshly pierced by two spider legs.
“Aow… Roar…” The zombie’s face began to corrode, large pieces of rotten flesh fell off, revealing sinister white bones.
This turn of events was unexpected for both human and zombie. An Yimu immediately realized this was an opportunity. She circled behind the zombie and pierced its brain.
A mighty, surging energy shot directly into her palm and converged in the bean-shaped object in her brain. The bean-shaped object was now only one-third empty. This Spider-Form Zombie was indeed formidable. If not for this accident where it was injured by its own acid, she would have surely died today.
She was about to chase after the others, but after only a few steps, her legs felt heavy, and she collapsed onto the ground. An Yimu cried out in pain, realizing her legs had suddenly lost all sensation. She rolled up her pant legs. Her originally fair and slender legs were now terrifying. The bl00d vessels on her legs were swollen, twisting like earthworms, and even more frighteningly, the bl00d inside was black.
An Yimu remembered being pierced by the spider legs just now. It was clearly the venom from the spider legs!
The toxins began to take effect. An Yimu’s consciousness became blurred, her mind a mess, and she fell to the ground, unconscious.
The Mutant, which had been following An Yimu and the others, emerged from behind a building. Its eerily glowing eyes fixed malevolently on An Yimu lying on the ground, and it slowly approached…
Suddenly, the gear-shaped birthmark on An Yimu’s right palm began to heat up, emitting a white light that soon spread over her entire body. The changes started in An Yimu’s exposed lower legs. The earthworm-like bl00d vessels began to recede, and the bl00d gradually returned to its normal color. Even the wounds on An Yimu’s shoulder were healing.
A flicker of surprise crossed the Mutant’s small eyes. It looked at the white light on An Yimu, swished its large brown tail, and disappeared back into the ruins.
An Yimu, still unconscious, did not know that the birthmark had saved her life.
In a daze, An Yimu felt very warm. She saw a figure calling her, Lan… Lan…
Who is Lan? Her name is An Yimu. Following that, there were sounds of a noisy crowd. A group of people surrounded her, arguing about something. She couldn’t hear. These people were wearing white work clothes. Were they doctors?
An Yimu suddenly awoke, realizing she had passed out right in the middle of a zombie horde! Less than a hundred zombies remained. Strangely, these zombies surrounded her but did not approach. Only then did she notice her legs had returned to normal, and the wounds on her shoulder were also healed. This made her even more astonished.
She stood up, saw the corpse of the Spider-Form Zombie, and noticed the two long spider legs. She got an idea. She walked over and used her knife to cut off these two sharp spider legs. They would make perfect weapons. These spider legs were even tougher than her dagger and poisonous, making them excellent for self-defense. They would be perfect for Nuan Qianyu and Ling Qiuyu, one each. She fiddled with the other six spider legs but found that they were not hard and could even be cut by her dagger.
So, she took some time to eliminate the surrounding initial zombies and quickly left the area to catch up with Nuan and Ling.
The energy in her bean-shaped object was now slightly more than half full.
At this moment, the five people who had escaped from Changping County were arguing.
“Yu Le, let go of me! I’m going back to save Xiaomu!” An Yimu hadn’t emerged after such a long time, suggesting she had likely met with disaster. They had all witnessed how formidable the Spider-Form Zombie was, yet they had abandoned An Yimu to face the zombie alone. Ling Qiuyu’s eyes were red as she spoke.
Qin Yongsheng and Gu Linlin remained silent. An Yimu had saved their lives twice today, but they were no match for the Spider-Form Zombie. Should they really go back to their deaths?
Nuan Qianyu glared at Yu Le, her aura fully unleashed. “Get your filthy claws off me! I don’t need trash like you to block me when I’m going to save someone!”
Yu Le’s face was livid. If he weren’t considering that Nuan Qianyu was Ling Qiuyu’s best friend, he wouldn’t be holding her back now. He didn’t expect this woman to be so ungrateful. “Get a grip! Even I couldn’t beat that evolved zombie! That woman must be dead by now! Are you going back to die?”
Ling Qiuyu’s expression instantly changed. This man was truly disgusting. She tried hard to shake off Yu Le’s grip, but Yu Le was a Level 2 Awakener, and being a man, his strength was immense. Ling Qiuyu couldn’t break free.
Nuan Qianyu stomped on Yu Le’s foot, gritting her teeth and saying, “Let go of me immediately, you beast!” She was so angry that she spoke without thinking. What’s wrong with this man, pulling on her?
Just then, everyone heard a clear shout.
“What are you doing?”
It was An Yimu, who had caught up. From a distance, she had seen Ling Qiuyu, Nuan Qianyu, and Yu Le grappling with each other and was confused.
Yu Le was greatly shocked. His face contorted, his eyes wide, unable to believe An Yimu was alive.
Nuan and Ling were both overjoyed, almost bursting into tears, and rushed into An Yimu’s arms, one on each side.
Qin Yongsheng awkwardly looked away, feeling guilty for abandoning An Yimu again. Gu Linlin looked at the three meaningfully, subtly frowning.
An Yimu was speechless. Did these two think I was dead? She pushed them away and immediately presented the two spider legs like treasured items, handing one each to Nuan Qianyu and Ling Qiuyu.
“What is this?” Ling Qiuyu asked in confusion.
The spider legs were about a meter long, long and thin, with black tips.
“I cut these from the Spider-Form Zombie. I noticed this thing is even harder than a dagger, and the tip has a deadly poison. They’ll be perfect for your self-defense,” An Yimu said happily. With these, the two would have a guarantee. Even if they encountered a Tier 2 zombie, they would have a chance to fight. At least she wouldn’t have to be distracted during a battle anymore.
